10505.09.2023Kloggmonkey7.0A company I casually followed on a lark in 2012 ("they put the heavyweight title on Okato? ! ") eventually turned into a company I followed religiously watching full shows starting around 2016/17. That stretch until Covid necessitated a hiatus was some of the best wrestling I've ever seen and probably won't be replicated by this company for a long time. After returning after their hiatus, the company's been in a precipitous decline in quality; acts got stale, House of Torture, matches got unnecessarily bloated, the G1 got heavily diluted, House of Torture, unpopular booking and business decisions, and did I mention House of Torture. Even with the infusion of young talent like the Reiwa Musketeers and BC Wardogs, and a new heavyweight champ in SANADA (pulled the trigger a little too late, if you ask me) the company is at its stalest. The current product is roughly a 4/10, but the company has built such a lasting legacy of amazing matches throughout the decades that it's hard to dock the overall score for it too much.

10801.09.2023staabi2hotty9.0I know I sound like a mark here, but NJPW is easily the most underrated wrestling show on the market. 5 flipping bucks and you get everything. Yes the storylines aren't as good as they once were and some wrestlers are retiring leaving and getting older, but if strong REAL looking wrestling is your thing then I certainly suggest you sit down and watch NJPW. New japan tells stories more through the matches and many of the greatest matches of all time have taken place here. Best Wrestling on the Planet and some of the best presentation just not as polished or with as deep storylines as some other companies I can't say they are perfect but better than every other alternative.

11025.08.2023UltraNano547.0I have a hard time rating NJPW. On one hand, I hate their booking (especially the booking for anything that isn't the world title) and I hate their forced super long main events that are just 15 minutes of filler in a 30+ minute match but on the other hand, they absolutely have some of the best wrestlers on the planet like Naito, Shingo and Hiromu so NJPW is capable of putting on inappreciable shows even though I don't like the company itself. I would say they are a 5/10 company with 10/10 wrestlers so I will give them 7/10.

11521.08.2023Number One Omosapien8.0The in ring work in this promotion is the best in the world. Unfortunately the storytelling is lacklustre. I don't want to see okada win a g1 again for christs sake. the crowds are great though, and the presentation? It will give you chills and has big fight feels

11720.08.2023TheEnigmatic16.0I got into NJPW around 2019 and started to love a lot of the characters and wrestlers and factions... Good thing I did because they are all you see and nothing will really change, Guys like Okada, Naito, Tanahashi, Hiromu are just in the same spots same angles as they always are, It is cool whenever someone Like Shingo or Ospreay or ZSJ get a good run with some sort of title but then it goes right back to the same wrestler, I have been interested in their newer younger guys like Shota, Yota and Ren Narita but other than that they are way too safe and I honestly think having a Junior division does not help them as let's be honest How different looking do juniors look from their heavyweights? Hiromu could easily hang with a Tanahashi in the ring. But they have given us some amazing matches and stories so that will give them a 6.

12210.08.2023EleceRock5.0The wrestling on the top of the card and the top shows is usually insanely good, but I can't help but feel the fact that I need to get through an equally insanely ammount of repetitive matches, boring cards, etc. to get to those good matches, and if I'm going to rate this company for all the shows I think usually most of the times everything just feels pretty stale, and it's not like NJPW is the only company offering insanely good matches nowadays, with the ammount of wrestling companys going around and offering good wrestling and entertaining storylines on a more consistent basis, I think this company is far from being the top wrestling promotion right now.
12310.08.2023KENTAfan3.0Very surprised that theyre still getting great reviews this year for the most part, because honestly NJPW has been noticeably average for the past few years, at sometimes downright bad. Its not even close to the he golden age that was 2017-2020. Many of the top guys, for example Naito, Tana, Ishii, Shingo, Ibushi, are just old men now, yet are relied upon to still carry the company. In a few years, that issue will be much worse still. Yes, Okada is still one of the best in the world overall, but from a storyline perspective his presentation has been SO fucking stale for years now, same with Jay White to a lesser extent. The main heel group, house of evil of whatever the hell, should be renamed to house of shit bc thats what they are. Literally just as bad as Retribution, if not worse thanks to the fact that the higher ups seem to have some weird obsession with it. The best thing about the promotion right now is Ospreay by a fkn mile, but Im honestly just expecting him to jump ship to AEW or possibly even WWE at any point. The incredible match quality that was commonplace a few years ago used to serve as a mask for the bizarre booking decision that stupid boy Gedo used to make, but now, not only has the reduced quality really exposed the hell out of these problems a lot more, but Gedos booking has become more bizarre with each passing month. His decision to have EVIL, who legit sucks now, go over Shingo and Ishii both in this recent G1 and make it to the quarters is particularly confounding. I havent watched the company frequently for some time now, and every time I attempt to, my position is quickly proven right. Yeah say what you will, but at this very moment, NJPW sucks pretty badly. But still, it somehow gets +9 rankings and I dont understand this at all. I honestly think that most people on this site are only here to bitch about WWE and dick ride companies like NJPW instead of calling out the same kind of terrible crap. Its hypocritical. WWE is WAY better than NJPW at the moment, I would give it a higher ranking in honor of the glory days, but Im going to give it a genuine 3 for what it is today, which is honestly generous.
12402.08.2023TheRealLoLWO10.0The best Japanese promotion that will ever exist. This is the best pro-wrestling company ever besides from some other major ones. It has the absolute best wrestlers and had the GOATS in this company. They have amazing matches. This company needs lots of loves like it used to have.
12501.08.2023flipflopdoritos7.0don't get me wrong, the wrestling in this promotion is so good, but GOD the storytelling is so repetitive. for every time okada wins a g1 i'm dropping the promotion rating down another point because it's just getting ridiculous at this point. they cycle around the same 5-6 guys at the top every decade and then rinse and repeat for the next. very tiring booking, but at least the matches are great.

13503.07.2023coppercowries8.0When this promotion is hot, nothing can touch it in regards to production and in ring presentation of its stars. Periods of absolutely the most phenomenal wrestling in the world. Gedo, for the most part, has guided the company consistently and balances long term it'll-be-worth-the-wait story telling with pleasing the crowd. The booking suffered a bit during the pandemic, and overall the company has had to pivot quickly to begin replacing its aging, physically beaten down top stars. But with the current crop of young lions moving quickly up the ranks, the future looks bright.

14009.06.2023Malarkian10.0In-ring no one touches NJPW. They had a rough stretch from 2020-early 2023 with all the Covid restrictions but even then they were regularly putting on the best matches in the world. Their production and camera work is the best in the business. And now with crowds FINALLY allowed to make noise more wrestlers from around the world will undoubtedly be more willing to make the trek to Japan for a tour. Nature is starting to heal.

15907.04.2023RecklessOne6.0To my regret, New Japan is no longer the best Japanese promotion. Yes, as elsewhere there are many legendary confrontations, matches, characters, but the problems are more global. Sometimes just inadequate booking of certain personalities, nepotism. With the change in leadership, New Japan has lost a lot. Naturally, there have been and are attempts to return to greatness, but the booking of some matches is either obvious or too bad.

16202.04.2023Tyler726.0Watching New Japan, especially their best matches for the first time was amazing. After a few months watching them live though, you start to realize that they only have really good matches every once and a while. They also tend to have rematches of their lower and mid cards across each series of nights which gets boring really fast. Their roster is in dire need of new talent. I feel mostly disappointed with the state of this promotion as it just feels like there hasn't been enough things going on that's kept me interested.

16616.03.2023KesagakeOK9.0Best in-ring product being produced today; consistently spectacular talent putting on some of the best matches of the modern wrestling era on a consistent basis. If you're not watching NJPW, you're depriving yourself of the best wrestling has to offer (though some factions like House of Torture can occasionally detract from the proceedings).

17619.02.2023Luna1007.0They are back on track, for a while it seems like they were on a large downturn, but now they are on the up and up, there is a few new people going to the top, with most doing well (defo not Shota Umino) since Wrestle Kingdom this year it has felt exciting, there have been a few misses, but it has been good.

17901.02.2023MCMGreed6.0NJPW is a promotion that feels like it is just going through the motions at this point. You get good matches here and there but everything else is par for the course. Other puro promotions are more interesting even in their undercards and with a lot of them also stepping up in ring quality NJPW feels less must-see. Hopefully with some talent returning from excursion NJPW can be refreshed but it'll be a while before we see what happens with them.

19724.11.2022crs2859.0NJPW is the top wrestling in Japan and one of the best in the world. It does have its issues such as bad wrestlers, stories or lack thereof and matches but hits highs that most promotion couldn't. Crowds for their shows in Japan are almost always great and their production quality is extremely high.
