103.08.2021Ma Stump Puller2.0Kings Road failed for a number of reasons: lackluster match quality, no real direction, and failing to be, well, proper Kings Road style bouts in the first place. One issue in particular is that they tried to exist when NOAH and AJPW already provide what they offered: and to a far better extent as well. As a result, their roster was mostly made out of indie guys who just couldn't cut being main event talent (Kazushi Miyamoto was a prime example of this, a goof who was made to steal moves from more talented wrestlers to try to vest some legitimacy of his own) and I love Tomoaki Honma, but he was NOT the guy to be pushing either, especially pre Honmamania where he was a lot more generic. Sure, they had Tenryu, but without anyone else to work with him on a equal level he was worthless. Even with Misawa and co dropping in to help, they were doomed to fail, which is a shame because the idea of having pure Kings Road as a promotion? It's a good idea! It's just not one that could be done with the people they brought in, and all the individuals who could've made this promotion were already in bigger and better things. Pushing new stars could've worked, but they didn't seem to bother with that either.
