Cody Deaner im Interview - Teil 2 (dt./eng.)

Mit einem Tag Verspätung ist nun endlich auch der zweite Teil des Interviews mit Cody Deaner online. Nachdem der verrückte Redneck sich im ersten Teil ausführlich zu seiner Zeit bei TNA Wrestling geäußert hat, verrät er uns nun etwas über seine Anfänge im Wrestlingbusiness. Außerdem spricht er von seinem Treffen mit Vince McMahon und seinen Plänen für die Zukunft.

Cagematch.de: Und weiter geht's, Cody. Abseits deiner Auftritte bei TNA hat man nicht viel von Cody Deaner gehört. Erleuchte uns. Wo warst du die ganze Zeit?

Cody Deaner: Wie ich schon sagte, ich wrestle seit zehn Jahren. In den letzten zehn Jahren bin ich ein Lehrling des Wrestlings gewesen. Ich habe versucht alles über das Business zu lernen. Und ich lerne immer noch. Wenn du denkst, dass du alles über das Wrestlingbusiness gelernt hast, das es zu lernen gibt, dann läuft irgendwas falsch.

Cagematch.de: Bist du schon dein ganzes Leben lang Wrestlingfan? Wenn ja, wer waren die Helden deiner Kindheit?

Cody Deaner: Ja, bin ich. Seit ich fünf war, wollte ich Pro Wrestler werden. Als Kind habe ich zu Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Snuka, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat und vielen anderen aufgeschaut. Als kleines Kind war ich dem Wrestling gegenüber echt ehrfürchtig. Ich wusste einfach, dass es das ist, was ich machen wollte, wenn ich erwachsen bin. Ich musste es einfach tun. Also habe ich mir den Arsch aufgerissen um mein Ziel zu erreichen. Mit viel harter Arbeit - und viel Hilfe von dem großen Mann da oben - habe ich meinen Traum verwirklicht.

Cagematch.de: Wie hat deine Familie reagiert, als du ihnen gesagt hast, dass du Wrestler werden willst? Haben sie dich unterstützt oder dich eher belächelt?

Cody Deaner: Meine Mutter hat mich sehr unterstützt. Sie war es, die mich vor den Fernseher gesetzt hat um Hulk Hogan anzusehen, während mein Bruder in der Schule war und ich niemanden zum Spielen hatte. Also wusste sie, dass es mein Traum war. Sie war sehr hilfsbereit und ist sehr stolz auf mich.

Mein Vater hat mir ebenfalls sehr geholfen. Er hat mir seinen Wagen gegeben, als ich zwei, dreimal pro Woche für über ein Jahr die siebenstündige Fahrt zum Training hinter mich bringen musste. Ich glaube, dass er nicht daran geglaubt hat, dass jemand mit meiner Statur es als Wrestler schaffen kann. Besonders weil ich damals nur knapp siebzig Kilo gewogen habe. Ich denke, ich habe ihn überrascht. Aber ich weiß, dass er auch stolz darauf ist, was ich erreicht habe.

Cagematch.de: Wer hat dich trainiert? Und wie lange hast du gebraucht, bis du dein erstes Match bestreiten durftest?

Cody Deaner: Mein Trainer war "Dangerboy" Derek Wylde. Er ist ein erstaunlicher Performer und jemand, der sein Leben dem Business verschrieben hat, obwohl er niemals den Durchbruch geschafft hat. Er sollte mittlerweile irgendwo World Champion sein. Aber wie gesagt, es ist alles eine Sache des Timings.

Ich selbst habe über ein Jahr trainiert, bevor ich mein erstes Match bestritten habe. Ich habe mein Lehrgeld bezahlt und wurde auf die richtige Art ins Geschäft eingeführt.

Cagematch.de: 2004 hattest du einen Auftritt im TV, als du gegen Kurt Angle bei SmackDown angetreten bist. Erzähl uns etwas von dieser Erfahrung.

Cody Deaner: Es war großartig. Diese Erfahrung hat mich gelehrt, dass ich mit den großen Jungs mithalten kann. Und dass ich es verdiene, meinen Lebensunterhalt als Wrestler zu verdienen. Und dass es möglich war.

Jeder dort war großartig. Von den Agents bis zu Kurt selbst. Der lohnendste Teil dieser Erfahrung war, dass Vince McMahon mich nach meinem Match mit Kurt zur Seite genommen und mir gedankt hat. Er kam zu mir, weil er sich bedanken wollte. Das war sehr cool von ihm. Er hätte das nicht tun müssen. Nach der Erfahrung wusste ich, dass ich es in diesem Business zu etwas bringen kann.

Cagematch.de: Was hast du seit deiner Entlassung von TNA getan?

Cody Deaner: Ich bleibe fleißig. Ich wrestle überall und habe Spaß am Business. Ich liebe dieses Business. Ich liebe es im Ring zu sein und zu zeigen was ich kann. Also tue ich es, und ich liebe es.

Ich bin auch mit verschiedenen Promotern in Übersee in Kontakt. Ich hoffe irgendwann in 2010 auf Übersee-Tour gehen zu können. Hey, ich würde gerne nach Deutschland kommen. Ich habe tolle Dinge von Leuten wie Joe E. Legend über die Szene dort gehört. Wenn es dort Promoter gibt, die ein Interesse daran haben mich rüberzuholen... meldet euch.

2010 geht es vorwärts und aufwärts für Cody Deaner. 2009 war ein gutes Jahr, 2010 wird noch besser.

Cagematch.de: Wie sieht es mit Cody Deaners Zukunft aus? Was sind deine Pläne?

Cody Deaner: Mein Plan war es immer meinen Lebensunterhalt als Wrestler zu verdienen. Das ist mein Plan. Mein Plan war es nie berühmt zu werden oder mehrere Millionen Dollar zu verdienen. Mein Ziel ist es von dem zu leben, was ich liebe – und das ist Wrestling.

Was auch immer ich tun muss um dieses Ziel zu erreichen... ich werde es tun.

Cagematch.de: Kannst du dir vorstellen für World Wrestling Entertainment oder eine kleinere Liga wie Ring of Honor zu arbeiten?

Cody Deaner: Ja, kann ich. Ich kann mir sogar sehr gut vorstellen für WWE zu arbeiten. Ich denke, ich kann einer Wrestlingliga eine Menge bieten. Und ich denke, ich kann WWE viel bieten. Ich kann ihnen auf jedenfall etwas bieten, das anders ist. Etwas neues. Etwas aufregendes. Wie ich schon sagte, ich habe viel mehr zu bieten, als das, was die Wrestlingwelt bisher von mir gesehen hat.

Was ROH angeht, habe ich einige Freunde, die für ROH arbeiten oder gearbeitet haben. Ich respektiere ROH. Und wenn ROH mich fragen würde, ob ich für sie arbeiten will, wäre ich nicht abgeneigt.

Cagematch.de: Hast du schon mal in Europa oder außerhalb von Nordamerika gewrestlet? Und wenn nicht, würdest du es gerne tun?

Cody Deaner: Wie ich schon sagte, bisher hat mich das Wrestling noch nicht nach Europa oder Übersee verschlagen. Aber ich weiß, dass sich das noch ändern wird. Ich habe definitiv nichts dagegen nach Europa zu kommen. Ganz im Gegenteil. Es würde mir sehr gefallen. Ich habe schon mit einigen europäischen Promotions geredet, aber bis jetzt ist noch kein Deal in trockenen Tüchern. Ich freue mich jedenfalls darauf bald dort antreten zu können. Die erste Promotion, die zuschlägt und mich sich entscheidet mich einzufliegen, wird die Chance haben zu sehen, was ich kann, und dass ich mehr kann, als das, was man bei TNA zu sehen bekommen hat.

Cagematch.de: Gibt es irgendwas, das du deinen deutschen Fans noch sagen willst?

Cody Deaner: Danke für die Unterstützung. Ich habe im Lauf der letzten Jahre einige E-Mails von Fans aus Deutschland erhalten. Es ist großartig zu wissen, dass ich Fans überall auf den Erdball habe. Bitte unterstützt mich auch in 2010 weiter. Und ich hoffe irgendwann in 2010 auch bei euch in den Ring steigen und euch treffen zu können.

Cagematch.de: Okay, let's continue, Cody. Outside of your TNA appearances there is little known about Cody Deaner. Enlighten us. Where have you been all the time?

Cody Deaner: Like I said, I have been wrestling for 10 years. For the last 10 years I've been a student of wrestling. Learning everything I can about the business. I'm still a student of the game. When you think you've learned everything there is to know in this business... well... then there's something wrong.

Cagematch.de: Are you a life-long wrestling fan? If so, who were your childhood heroes?

Cody Deaner: Yes I am. I wanted to be a pro wrestler ever since the age of 5. As a kid, I looked up to Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Snuka, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, the list goes on and on. I was in awe of wrestling as a young kid. I just knew that I had to do it when I grew up. I had to. So, I worked my butt off to make it happen. With a lot of hard work, and a lot of blessing from the Big Man upstairs, I got to achieve my dream.

Cagematch.de: How did your family react when you told them that you want to be a professional wrestler? Were they supportive or did they make fun of you?

Cody Deaner: My mother was very supportive. She was the one that plopped me in front of the TV to watch Hulk Hogan everyday as a young kid when my brother went to school and I was left at home alone with no one to play with. So, she knew it was my dream. So, she was very supportive and is very proud of me.

My dad was also very supportive. He let me use his vehicle when I had to drive 6-7 hours round trip 2-3 a week for over a year to train to be a pro wrestler. I don't think he ever thought that someone my size would make it as a wrestler. Especially because I was 150 lbs soaking wet when I started out. So, I think I surprised him. But, I know he’s proud of me for what I've accomplished too.

Cagematch.de: Who was your trainer? And how long did it take you to get ready for your first wrestling match?

Cody Deaner: My trainer was "Dangerboy" Derek Wylde. He's an amazing performer. He's someone that has given his life to this business and has never been given a break. He should be a world champion somewhere by now. But, like I said, it's all about timing.

I trained for over a year before my first match. I paid my dues and was brought up in the business the right way.

Cagematch.de: In 2004 you made an appearance at national TV when you faced Kurt Angle at SmackDown. Tell us about that experience.

Cody Deaner: It was a great experience. The experience taught me that I could hang with the big boys. And that I deserved to make a living as a wrestler. And that it was possible.

Everyone there was great. From the agents to Kurt himself. The most rewarding part of the experience was Vince McMahon pulling me aside after my match with Kurt and thanking me for the match. He came and found me because he wanted to thank me. That was cool of him. He didn't have to do that. After that experience I knew I could cut it and make it in this business.

Cagematch.de: What have you done since your release from TNA?

Cody Deaner: I'm keeping busy. I'm wrestling all over the place and enjoying the business. I love this business. I love to be in the ring and performing. So, I'm doing that and loving it.

I've been in contact with various promoters overseas. So, I'm hoping to get overseas at some point in 2010. Hey... I'd love to come to Germany. I've heard great things from guys like Joe E. Legend about the scene over there. If there are any promoters interested in bringing me in... get ahold of me.

Onward and upward for Cody Deaner in 2010. 2009 was a good year. 2010 is going to be better.

Cagematch.de: What about Cody Deaner's future? What are your plans?

Cody Deaner: My plan has always been to make a living as a professional wrestler. That's my plan. My plan has never been to be famous. Or to make millions of dollars. My goal is to make a living doing what I love – and that’s wrestling.

So, wherever I have to go to achieve that goal... I'll do it.

Cagematch.de: Can you imagine working for World Wrestling Entertainment or a smaller company like Ring of Honor?

Cody Deaner: Yes I can. I can very much imagine working for the WWE. I think I have a lot to offer any wrestling company. And I know I have a lot to offer the WWE. I definitely can offer them something different. Something new. Something exciting. Like I said earlier, I have more to offer than just what the wrestling world has seen so far.

As for ROH. I've got some friends that work for and have worked for ROH in the past. I respect ROH. And, if ROH asked me to come work with them, I would not be opposed to it.

Cagematch.de: Have you ever wrestled in Europe or outside North America? If not, would you like to?

Cody Deaner: Like I said, wrestling hasn't brought me to Europe or overseas yet. But, I know it will. I am definitely not opposed to coming to Europe. Quite the opposite. I'd love to. I've talked to a few European promotions thus far, but no deal had been set in stone yet. I'm looking forward to performing there soon. The first promotion that pulls the trigger and decides to bring me in will get a chance to see what I have to offer and that I have more to offer than just what they've seen on TNA TV.

Cagematch.de: Is there anything you would like to tell your German fans?

Cody Deaner: Thank you for the support. I've received a number of emails from German fans over the last few years. It's amazing to know that I have fans across the globe. Please, keep supporting me in 2010. And, I hope to be performing in front of you and meeting you all at some point in 2010.
