Hello everyone,

Today I am able to introduce to you a major overhaul of the matchguide, which basically allows every (*) match to be recommended and rated by you, the CAGEMATCH inmates, without having to contact the CM team and wait for us to add a match to the guide. This allows both for faster discussion and rating of many matches, but in general a much more diverse rating community in general.

You can see the overhaul in action by looking at virtually any event in the database. Instead of the old matchguide line ("Recommended, CAGEMATCH rating: ..., WON rating: ..."), the same line is now much more dynamic and available for all matches, both showing the existing ratings by the CAGEMATCH community, by you and of the Wrestling Observer as well as providing either a link for you to propose (i.e. add) the match for the matchguide, add missing information or an explanation why the match cannot be recommended.

Both the matches and you, the user, must meet certain criteria in order for a match, which is not yet in the guide, to be proposed.

1. Match eligibility criteria:

1.a. must not be a house show or dark match

1.b. must have a match length of at least 5 minutes (if no match length is given, you can help us by sending in the match length as well as the source for your info via the suggestion system; once the match length is entered, the match can become eligible)

1.c. all participants in the match must have a worker profile

1.d. must be the original event/taping entry (this mostly affects repeat showings of the same match and is a technicality to avoid multiple entries for the same match in the guide)

2. User eligibility criteria:

2.a. must not have received a ratings system warning in the last 2 weeks

2.b. must have rated at least 25 database entries

2.c. must have commented on at least 10 database entries

2.d. the oldest comment must be at least 24 hours old

This eligibility criteria were chosen to protect our ratings system from manipulation while allowing for maximum flexibility for active and long-term inmates of our cage to basically "start immediately" with recommending those matches they think are missing in the guide. In general, of course, the rules for the ratings system fully apply for all these "user-generated" matchguide entries just as they did before. We wanted to expand the interactivity and diversity of our matchguide entries, while keeping the same level of quality.

Final note: I have worked for a couple of weeks on the design for this system extension and did most of the actual coding in the last 24 hours. As this is still a one-person development job and the backend of the database is both older and more complicated than I care to admit, any amount of testing I did the last couple of hours surely was not enough, so I fully expect some bugs or curiousities to occur. In both cases, please drop me an email via the contact form or by emailing team@cagematch.net and I will have a look ASAP. As per usual, polite and respectful feedback will be reciprocated, any form of trolling will likely be deleted without response.

So anyway, I hope you all have fun with the new, expanded matchguide system. Personally I hope for many, many, many more interesting statistical observations and more diverse recommendations coming out of all of this. Let's try to make this a cool thing, alright? :-)
