1703.07.2023coppercowries7.0The booking of this belt has had some very solid, even exceptional highs, but also lows and tainted reigns. An awesome start with Kenny and White, the belt eventually suffered tremendously due to the pandemic restrictions and then hot potatoed in intense but short reigns. Ospreay built the profile of the belt back up, and his feud between Ospreay and Omega has it back in the global spotlight.

2027.06.20230zawarudo08.0This was a brutal brawl. Hatred just oozed out of it. Will looking for tables to put Kenny's face through was awesome. The spots with the Canadian flag were awesome. This would have been a 9 if they didn't have Don come back out after being sent off (there's other ways to get to that spot, it was lazy). It almost feels like there won't be a 3rd one, but I hope there is.

2306.06.2023GoldenIcebox8.0When Omega became the first champion in 2017, it was clear this title was going to mean something. Fast forward 6 years later, and the title is alright. It lost its luster ever since Moxley hoarded the belt for a year and a half, but the lineage really carries the title itself. The 10 best title matches in my opinion are Omega vs. White(1-27-2018), Moxley vs. Robinson(6-5-2019), Moxley vs. Archer(1-4-2020), Moxley vs. Nagata(5-12-2021), Tanahashi vs. Ibushi(9-4-2021), Tanahashi vs. KENTA(1-5-2022), Tanahashi vs. Ishii(5-1-2022), Ospreay vs. SANADA(6-12-2022), Ospreay vs. Naito(11-5-2022) and Omega vs. Ospreay (1-4-2023).

2517.05.2023Coffin997.0I really want to love this championship. Its got an outstanding look, and its had some of the best people in the industry hold it in its short history. However, it hasnt been booked the best. I dont know why New Japan agreed to let 2 AEW wrestlers win this belt just so they can hold the title hostage in America, rarely defend it, and hardly ever show it off.

4814.06.2022tsdenizen7.0Good looking belt, talented title holders, reigns are too short and/because the belt is fucking cursed. Don't even know why you'd wanna win this thing when it's liable to cause you some illness or injury, but to each their own. They've done the best they can given the circumstances and no crummy wrestlers have held the title. There's something to be said for that.

5215.05.2022Childofthelost9.0I had this title at a 5 because of the Moxley reign followed the title hotshotting from Lance to Tana to KENTA... but I think the title has really bounced back. Don't get me wrong, it's still hotshotting. But the defenses really mean something again. Tanahashi & KENTA tried to kill each other over this championship, KENTA was hurt and is still out. Tanahashi & SANADA called back to their rivalry and had a fantastic match over this championship. SANADA gets hurt and vacates the title, so Tanahashi & Ishii have probably the best match of the year over this championship. And now Juice wins the title after a Fatal-Four-Way war with four men trying to each other over this championship. I think the IWGP US Heavyweight has been redeemed and the title, despite hotshotting, really feels important again and the prestige is undeniable.

5427.02.2022Luna1003.0It failed its purpose, the first two reigns were great, but Juice and Cody were not that good of champions, then Moxley's first reign and Lance Archer's was quite good. Then Moxley's second reign started off great, but then the pandemic hit, and it became inactive, of course Moxley could not go to Japan, because of AEW, but he would not need to, as NJPW had created Strong, but it took 29 episodes for him to have a match, and then 8 episodes later Strong created their own belt, so the US Championship, it would have been much better if Moxley dropped it to Tom Lawler, but instead they created their own belt, and the US Championship was defended on AEW more times, before losing it to Archer, who by this time left NJPW for AEW, and then it was given to Tanahashi, who has been defending it in Japan. They got it in the US but brought it back to Japan! There is no point to this, just a generic championship
5501.02.2022GriffinX8.0On the one hand the US title hasn't had a champion who is truly bad in the ring. But its not eveyr champ was able to have that great reign for various reasons. Also some what hurt but NJPW doesn't seem to know know what they want the belt to be. When it was introduced you had midcard title. I think the goal was at one was for it to be the top prize of New Japan of America but that wound up being the strong openweight title.

5903.11.2021rariyavi5.0Never felt important in my eyes. The idea is well and good, but with the pandemic and odd booking surrounding the belt its hard to give this title any praise.
6026.10.2021Justt6.0After the Kenny's title reign, the belt suffered from poor booking and little to no interest by fans. After Moxley won the belt, it regained some of its value but the pandemic and the lack of defenses really hurted it again. Nowadays with Tanahashi holding the belt, it is one of the best segments in the lukewarm NJPW shows. The best decision with the title, in my opinion, is to retire it but NJPW will not do this (and probably will add other midcard title in the mix).

6310.09.2021Cort3z6.0If Archer or Moxley win this title 1 more time, Im gunna lose my mind. NJPW definitely needs some new blood in the title picture, because this title is starting to get stale and i really hope it doesnt go down hill.

6520.08.2021Upgrayedd3.0Beg your pardon, but how is this the US Championship if Jay White who's from New Zealand and Hiroshi Tanahashi who's Japanese have held, respectively currently hold the title? This title was supposed to be different from the WWE's version fo the US Championship, since only American wrestlers would be able to compete for it. Then again however, I'm starting to believe this is becoming one of those titles that's worth winning because it's a title.

7214.05.2021dirtydylane8.0Fun match and cool to see it being presented as a big deal on American Network TV. Nagata looked great and Mox created an atmosphere with the 'Wild Thang' entrance. Great atmosphere and it didn't overstay it's welcome. Fun watch.

7830.01.2021Tim Flyn4.0Un titre qui de base faisait doublon avec le titre Intercontinental... et qui maintenant n'est plus défendu depuis plus d'un an. La NJPW doit faire quelque chose pour lui redonner du prestige, et vite.
7930.01.2021GooverDan3.0Whereas New Japan STILL hasn't taken the title away from Jon Moxley after being inactive for a year. I think it is safe to say that the prestige of this title is in a sharp decline. I don't think even KENTA winning the title will help fix this poor reign.

8217.11.2020wrestlemaniac20205.0Could be the Title that NJPW Strong needs. Hopefully they can get Mox to drop it to Kenta or one of the US Talents.
8303.11.2020HC77.0
8423.10.2020ElPolloLoco4.0I think this belt was originally created to be put on foreign talent without the risks of having them jump to the competition at first occasion while carrying the belt. At some time they may have entertained the idea of only defending and promoting this belt in the US as part of the failed NJPW expansion plan into that market. Then as other commenters said things started going down the drain, and rapidly so I may add. Yes, AEW seems amenable to the idea of having their talent carry the belt, but they can put a stop to this at any moment. To make things worse the belt has been chiefly defended in Japan, something that makes little booking sense outside the big Tokyo Dome show. Epidemic or not, belt-worthy foreign talent is now in short supply: folks like Jay White and Will Ospreay have moved well above this belt and folks like Bad Luck Fale and David Finlay are not exactly championship material, at least not without very strong booking which with the present thin NJPW roster may cause tons of collateral damages. Oh well, they can always unify it with the NEVER Openweight title or use it as a prop for Master Wato and Great O-Kharn to feud on to the delight of no one.
8501.10.2020laldila3.0Not a very good belt. Part of this is out of New Japan's control with sickness and shutdowns, but there's a lot that occurred beforehand that really was deeply uninteresting. In a way its kind of symbolic of New Japan's US expansion: a good idea but not something they put their full weight behind.

8812.09.2020Ma Stump Puller6.0Outside of Omega's sensational run with the belt, it's been pretty much regarded as a C tier belt with no stakes behind it. Considering NJPW set up the belt in the first place to capitalise on the popularity of it in the US, it seemed like a good idea at the time: until AEW came along and took most if not all of their contenders away. Seriously, out of everyone who had the belt a some point, only Juice and Jay White remain, and Jay White is far into the main title picture now. Considering Moxley's the belt holder and currently can't defend it, he's basically been sitting on the belt for almost a year now, and he'll likely drop it. Hell, Cody a few months ago even openly mocked how useless the belt is in the long run during one of his promos. It was a good idea at the time, but unless they start finding some proper talent for Juice to fight for the belt, things don't look great. I really hope this belt doesn't become just another flop championship for the company: they have a few too many of those.

9904.07.2019NEVERoverweightChampion7.0This belt is still very recent so it's hard to judge, obviously they need more time but I think overall they did a good job. Kenny was the obvious choice as first champion and he had a good reign, his match against Jericho added prestige. Jay White did good in his first reign, he did especially great at putting over Juice Robinson and gave him a huge momentum... before Cody won the belt. This is the only thing they did wrong with the US Championship because Cody didn't need it, he was an absolute useless champion and put bad matches wich didn't gave Juice Robinson his momentum back when he regained the title. Juice did his best for his second reign, Chase Owens is a really weak challenger and Fale was okay but he ended up re-elevating the title with his match against Jon Moxley, wich despite the loss gave him some great momentum. I don't think Moxley will hold the title for a long time but he is a good addition to the list of champions and really proved he can help.
