In hindsight, a Strongbow title run would have been better, as the Chief was strong enough to step out of Bruno's shadow, where Pedro's entire title run stayed. |

Pedro already had a 20 year career by the time WWE went national so most of our memories are based on watching a guy in his 40's being pushed as a nostalga act. Morales was given a mutli year run as the top draw in WWE when the world title actually meant something. He was probably not as successful as Bruno or Backlund as a babyface draw for the company and certainly not the money draw that Andre or Hogan were but Morales would be top of the pile on the next tier to these guys in the 1970's. His in ring work relied on his passion. He drew on his ethnic support. His appeal wasn't universal but his fan base was very rabid. Morales had a big enough name and fan following that his name alone would have been enough to draw a crowd with any North Eastern Territory in his prime. |
