I didn't get 75% of the jokes until I started paying taxes years later. The guy made a heel gimmick that was a caricature of the Internal Revenue Service a career. He's good. Some of the critique about him getting hilariously sweaty and gassed in some matches is true. And his NWO era WCW run was, admittedly, lackluster. I think a lot of the non-Americans probably are missing 90% of the jokes in his IRS era promos. I doubt tax agency jokes translate. Also, this man drew nuclear heat in the US with that gimmick. |

This man was devoid of personality his whole career. When I first saw him, he was teaming with Barry Windham in the WWF as the US Express. They were a great tag team and this was the only period where he didn't bore me to tears. Then, he was teaming with Dan Spivey and that's when he suddenly felt so boring. When he left the WWF to go join Kevin Sullivan and The Varsity Club, he was given a pretty decent storyline with Rick Steiner. I actually kind of liked The Varsity Club at the time, but it has not held up well in retrospect.. Then he was a boat captain or something as "Captain" Mike Rotundo before becoming Michael Wallstreet, a Gordon Gekko wanna-be, a less charismatic Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase, with Terri Runnels as his manager before heading back to the WWF to team with the guy he was impersonating, Ted Dibiase. He spent his last few years as a member of the nWo, although he left and no one noticed. I don't know where his son, Bray Wyatt, got all of his charisma, but Rotundo will best be remembered as Wyatt's dad. Not a great career, but one that got him taken care of... |

I wanted to like him but other baby faces there had my heart by then. Here is where I think we got peak Mike Rotunda though: The Varsity Club heel turn, guided by Kevin Sullivan (also one of Sullivan's better outings) as the Television Champion, sometimes teaming with Rick Steiner or Sullivan. Great stuff here, house shows were a fun time with the southern crowd bellowing "SYRACUSE SUCKS! " at the native Orangeman. Unfortunately Jim Herd didn't understand "Captain" Mike referred to the "captain of the VARSITY TEAM" and made him "ThE cApTaIn Of A bOat DRrrRRr! ". *sigh* Anyway, he rechristened himself as "Michael Wallstreet" and I liked that gimmick. He quickly leapt back up to New York with a reworking of said Wallstreet gimmick and became the infamous Irwin R Shyster. That name IS AWFUL. Anyway, Julius flippin cheeseburger he put on some BOREDOM CLINICS as this character... but that tag team with Ted Dibiase was pretty good! His return to WCW as now "VK Wallstreet" quickly became T H E "just another body" nWo guy, until he was sent to Japan. Said role was then filled by 12 people at once. And can you bloody believe it, he even reprised The Varsity Club gimmick before WCW croaked...stunning, but also pointless (and meritless). Kinda hard to rate to be honest, we'll go with 7.25 rounded down. also of note: man what a super sweaty guy! *drip drip drip* |

Nur schade nur, das er dies oftmals garnicht so richtig zeigen durfte, was er alles drauf haben kann, dh. wenn man ihn nur mal gelassen hätte. Und er eben nicht ständig mit schmutzigen Tricks seinem Ruf als Heel gerecht werden mußte. Manchmal schimmerte das sogar extrem durch. So hatte ich z. B. mal ein Match zwischen ihm und [weiß jetzt nicht mehr genau, ob es Mr. Perfect, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka oder Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat gewesen ist] gesehen, das fast eine ganze Stunde ging. Und in dem die beiden ein absolutes Feuerwerk an High Risk - Luftmanövern veranstaltet haben ... der Hammer Kampf schlechthin. Am Ende verhielten sich beide fair und mit Respekt, also konnte Irwin R. Shyster hier mal ganz er selbst sein, egal, wer damals gewonnen hat und sahen nicht einmal besonders verschwitzt aus. |

Ich konnte ihn nicht richtig leiden, weil er sich viel eingemischt hat, bsp bei Undertaker vs. Yokozuna etc. Ich hatte früher oft das Gefühl, er sei in allem Schuld gewesen. Ich fand es immer toll, wenn man nach seiner Krawatte gepackt hat und damit ihn durch die Luft gezogen hat. Undertaker hat das sehr stark gemacht. Owen hat das nur schwach gemacht. Ich finde, dank IRS hat es auch viel Unterhaltung gegeben. |
