For years, he was a bland kick/submit Jr, whose talents were only shown briefly. He was good for a solid match but rarely was he exciting. His run as Tiger Mask was a complete bust and rather embarrasing upon reflection but once he crafted out who Koji Kanemoto was, as a sort of shoot version of Masahiro Chono, he was sorted and went on to be the premiere Jr in New Japan for over a decade. Even going on to do something that Jushin Thunder Liger couldn't achieve, going against the Heavyweights and being credibly among them. If anyone is looking to seek out Kanemoto's work, start around 1997 as that's where his real career begins. |
