116.03.2024Conquistador377.0I liked his work in WCW. Three Count should be almost everyone's guilty pleasure. The look, name, whole package of "Sugar" Shane Helms with the former Nitro girls dancing in his intro... GREAT! *gush* His career trajectory there was handled well. The WWF gave us The Hurricane and I will always be a mark for that character. A folly to The Hurricane era is while he was totally entertaining and had memorable (and enjoyable) sidekicks, around 2003 is where his ring work began to suffer. Firstly, he wasn't booked to be in the ring that often & when he was, he perhaps dug his heels in too deep with the character. His rebirth as a technical heel fell flat with me, I feel he should have resurrected a variation of the "Sugar" era for a heel. This is where my knowledge of his wrestling career fades and I hope to catch more of it, because of course I am missing out on HUNDREDS of matches and I didn't see much of "Gregory Helms: Generic but Veteran Cruiserweight, so that's a something". 7.25 for now.
216.03.2024ultravioletshiroi8.0In WWE he was basically a superhero jobber that was hard to take seriously. He was good in the ring and pulled off his gimmicks well, and his only real disadvantage was that he lacked the star power to be anything but a lower mid carder.

1224.12.2023mackers207.0Shane, Gregory or Hurricane Helms, this guy was always a treat in the ring. He got his start in WCW as Sugar Shane Helms and was the last WCW Cruiserweight champion before the buy out. He was solid technically with decent athleticism with a nasty shiny wizard and vertebreaker. But his time in WWE took him to another level. Ironically it seemed like Shane would be screwed in the purchased and initially was pitched as having a Hollywood Helms gimmick despite sounding like a hillbilly. Luckily he pitched to the McMahons his own idea of a comedic superhero Hurricane Helms. Initially a delusional heel, he became a fan favorite of the kid and even won the European title. Eventually Hurricane turned face and featured steadily on Raw. Hed also begin recruiting new sidekicks, starting with Rosey who he called a super hero in training (SHIT for short), Stacey Kiebler and Mighty Molly Holly. Again he found mid card success winning the hardcore title and tag title with Rosey. The career highlight was probably his feud with the Rock which was hilarious and had great chemistry both in the ring and on promos. After Hurricane ran its course, Helms would again evolve for the better. After a series of frustrating loses, Hurricane walked out on Rosey and came out as Gregory Helms. Gregory Helms was heel again and extremely cocky but greatly improved his in ring work. Hed be moved to SD where hed dominate and carry the revived cruiserweight division. His promos outside of being Hurricane Helms werent very good and that coupled with his size always held him back from climbing up the card further. Despite this, he fit the mid card extremely and made the most out of it. After 2007, his career began to fizzle due to injuries and he mainly was relegated to ECW returning the Hurricane Helms character. Personally I think he shouldve gotten a ran as US or IC champion but it never happened. Apparently when Helms returned in mid 2008 (interestingly as Hurricane Helms but with his Gregory Helms attire and theme) against MVP and later challenged Shelton Benjamin for the US title, he was suppose to win but McMahon felt he wasnt in good shape. Hed bounce around the indies and a brief stint in TNA before mostly ending his career, tho he did make a royal rumble cameo. Despite this, Helms had a solid career whether as comedy or serious act. He couldve easily gotten lost in the shuffle after the WCW buyout but did everything he could to save his career. Now hes working as a backstage producer for WWE and Im glad hes in a comfortable position.

1719.11.2023JediSaiyanMaster12039.0For my money, The Hurricane is the best comedy character of all time, proof can be seen through his mini feud with The Rock. A classic rivalry featuring some of the funniest backstage segments ever recorder in professional wrestling, I can watch those segments endlessly for the rest of my life and never get tired of them. Shane Helms was also a really good in ring wrestler.

2510.09.2023Number One Omosapien9.0Holy shit, this guy mastered the art of comedy wrestling. He had charisma, athleticism and a great finisher. The hurricane gimmick was great as well and fun to watch. Now he is working as a producer in WWE and helping create banger matches like logan paul vs ricochet. Underrated.

2909.08.2023ViolenceBret9.0Stand back, there's an underrated professional wrestler coming through! Comedy wrestling is typically a horrible idea, yet The Hurricane solidified the gold standard for such great stupidity. The simple fact that Shane Helms never murdered anyone with the vertebreaker speaks volumes about his talent. Once he made it to WCW, Helms found himself in 3 Count, a parody of boy bands with a real ear worm of a theme song. It's awful, but hearing Jimmy Hart sing about TRL is kind of amazing as it was so self-aware and encapsulates that time in the world. Then we got The Hurricane, a super hero (most likely a delusional comic fan) that wrestled people in the WWE. Nobody took the Hurricane too seriously, but his small clash with The Rock was comedy gold. He would evolve into a solid lower-mid card guy winning a few of the lighter titles. His work in tag-teams was fairly impressive, as Helms had good chemistry with nearly anyone. Once the Hurricane overstayed his welcome we got Gregory Helms, a fairly serious guy that would be a huge star in the independent scene or AEW today. He had a good run with the WWE cruiser-weight strap and proved Helms wasn't a joke. 9.0/10, The Hurricane was just too entertaining and Helms gave a lower-end title some meaning.

3701.06.2023Giantfan19806.0Dude went waaaay farther with the Hurricane gimmick than he should have. Competent cruiserweight contender and comedy act. Kinda lost his appeal in 2006 when he ditched the super hero gimmick. He just looks better with the mask and cape!

4807.01.2023Lizardman449.0Hurricane mastered the super hero gimmick. Comedy wrestling is really hard but Shane made it work. He had solid matches on his run as Gregory Helms but for me he will always be the best super hero in wrestling. Lizardman approves.

5317.11.2022crs2859.0Great in so many different gimmicks and roles. Did everything well. Had some amazing work in the ring. He was one of the most charismatic and talented workers on the mic. Always made the most of the time he was given and got every role he got over. Whether as Hurricane or Gregory Helms he stood out and stole the show.

5624.10.2022CurlyHairMetalPunk9.0In another era, Gregory Helms would have been something special, but alas he was 15-20 years too early. Gregory Helms was always entertaining and knocked whatever hand he was dealt out of the park whether it was as a part of 3-Count in the dying days of WCW, as the Hurricane in the Cruiserweight division or teaming with Kane and Rosey, or as simply Gregory Helms with the infamous shades and head tilt and seemingly never ending feud with Matt Hardy on SmackDown. The short rivalry between the Hurricane and the Rock hinted at some serious greatness that was never fully realized.

7504.09.2021Mutant347.0the hurricane was easily one of the funniest wrestlers in all of WWE history. it was funny without being forced and his good in-ring work made me love the character even more, and his finisher was really badass to see.

7919.06.2021Daigotsu6.0Fifteen-year-old me loved Hurricane Helms. He was a very good comedic wrestler. As to whether he was legitimately good? I dunno, he was fine I guess. He entertained me, but obviously that gimmick was never going to go anywhere major.

9026.11.2020Ma Stump Puller8.0Better than most cruiserweights mostly due to his surprisingly good comedic chops and the fact he was able to get the Hurricane gimmick over is a testament to how versatile he was in terms of charisma. Helms was also quite underrated in the ring and could do some stuff that you just didn't see from most if not all wrestlers in the mainstream scene at the time, guy could work technical and high flying while also being able to make it look almost seamless. While the Hurricane stuff is the best known mostly for his work with top guys like Rock and Triple H, I did think the Gregory Helms stuff wasn't half bad either: he could pull off a cocky heel quite well and his match quality as Cruiserweight Champion held the fort down for the belt despite WWE treating it worse and worse over the years. I've not caught up with his recent stuff over the years but he's more than earned the right to have mediocre matches considering the work he put in.

10026.11.2019JEK 19919.0One of the greatest crusierweights of all time. He was given a big push in WWE at first main eventing against Tripe H and Stone Cold. Exciting ring skills he had and a great high flyer. He scored an upset victory over the Rock. The Hurricane gimmick was excellent. Had good tag partners with Kane and Rosey. As Gregory Helms he did well and winning the crusierweight belt. A neck injury took him out for a year and a half. when he returned he was not the same.
