His redeeming qualities are that he's had some solid matches especially his match with Andrade, which for my money is the best NXT match to not happen in the UK. |

Johnny started his career in WWE as a 1/2 of DIY with Tomasso Ciampa, after which they had an amazing storyline that led to my personally most favorite match that took place between them in New Orleans. Johnny enjoyed huge support, but also revealed himself very well later as a villain and continued to be interesting until leaving the brand, eventually assembling his own stable, which gave a good start for Austin Theory. A wonderful charismatic wrestler, able to interact with the public and show great memorable matches. |

His best work was with Ciampa, but even that got repetitive at some point. Pretty clearly a Shawn Michaels/HHH guy, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but I think it speaks volumes about his booking and how hard they put him over. (Also all the false finishes in the blowoff matches to that feud. HBK's Dusty Finish is the repeated false finish, in my opinion.) All the bad things people say about Adam Cole (Small, boring, not believable.) are the things I feel about Johnny Gargano. Adam Cole at least has *some* semblance of character development beyond surface level. Cole works the slimeball heel angle super well, so it helps me buy into both his in-ring work and from a storyline aspect allows me to suspend my disbelief that he's a scheming little shit. Gargano never feels like anything beyond a wrestler trying to work a gimmick and an angle being booked favorably; nothing gets me to buy in or drop my smark guard, if you will. |

Allerdings....meinen Geschmack trifft er leider nicht....dafür ist er mir von der Ausstrahlung als "Charakter" einfach zu unbemerkenswert und dröge....er hat Mic-Skills und kann sicher eine Story erzählen...seine Fehde gegen Ciampa zu NXT-Zeiten z.B. war wirklich stark, jedoch kann ich trotz vergangener Verdienste den Hype um ihn herum nicht wirklich nachvollziehen...es geht auch nicht um seine physischen bzw. mangelnden physischen Attribute wie z.B. Körpergröße...aber selbst Leute wie Bryan Danielson, Rey Mysterio oder Eddie Guerrero bspw. haben mich als Persönlichkeiten viel mehr emotional mitnehmen können...sein größtes Manko ist dabei sein Mienenspiel...Johnny Same-Face....etwas böse, aber aus meiner Sicht beinahe schon berechtigt...für mich ist Johnny einfach zu blass und es mangelt ihm einfach an körperliches Charisma und Superstar-Ausstrahlung, etwas was Leute wie Austin Theory, Damian Priest, Tommasso Ciampa oder auch Karrion Kross gerade im Vergleich tonnenweise mitbringen...selbst sein größtes Plus, sein In-Ring-Work spricht mich nicht immer an, da er oftmals zu sehr dem klassischen Indy-Wrestler-Schema-F folgt mit schlicht zu vielen Moves, dafür zu wenig glaubhaftem Selling und allgemein einem zu starken Videospiel-Vibe, bei aller schön anzusehender Athletik. Gargano hat absolut seine Daseinsberechtigung im WWE-Universum, aber für mich ist er, vor allem im Vergleich zu den von mir genannten Gegenbeispielen, die Personifizierung eines tatsächlichen B+-Players. Sorry Johnny. |

I used to enjoy him a lot, but I got sick of his excessive match style real quick. Gargano can be good, in fact I think he can great. I don't remember him being that bad in DIY but once he had that insanely overrated match with Ciampa in New Orleans he got bad at an alarming rate. He had to be the most overindulgent, indyriffic wrestler in the world around 2018-19. One of the absolute worst sellers I've ever seen as he has no idea when and when not to sell moves. He completely buries finishers by kicking out of literally everything, and his own offense is uninspired. His heel runs were intolerable and better left forgotten. Seriously, his stuff with his wife on NXT 2.0 was unbelievable. I'll still take Gargano any day over Adam Cole. I think Gargano is watchable when he tones down the melodrama and doesn't cosplay as a Marvel superhero. |
