Though most who are aware of him know him as a ChocoPro and DDT mainstay since the early days of both companies, Honda has done countless independently produced shows and works a shockingly consistent schedule for being in his late-40s. Even since the beginning of his career Honda has been an incredible comedic foil to any of the more serious acts he is facing, with even his earliest Ironman Heavymetalweight battle royals being easily rewatchable. Despite not knowing English, Hondas standard routine translates excellently, whether there is an English commentator or not. But besides his excellent comedy and hijinks with Gongitsune, he is an incredibly capable grappler and had a phenomenal match for the KO-D title with Dick Togo where I really believe they should have pulled the trigger on him as a main even talent. Regardless, hes been able to stay consistently over with the crowds with his knee pain, phallic fox stories, singing, falling, and bionic elbows, and Im very glad he has been afforded a title and put back into a featured slot with Chris Brookes. |

I thought he was an alright wrestler, but his antics were a little jarring. Luckily, I took some time to get a better feel for him, and now he's quite simply one of my favorite acts in the sport. He's always good for a laugh, whether in his home promotion or when he's stealing the show at Gatoh Move. He's the man. |

At first, he just seemed like a funny dude who can shoot his jokes every other time, then I began to understand that he has quite cool and unique tricks that he continues to develop to this day, but now I am sure that this man is a genius. The story of Antonio's knee gets its continuation in every match, and even though the shell is always the same, the plot can develop in different ways. This is a unique feature of small events from DDT, performers reveal new faces and try something new, and Antonio Honda is one of the main reasons why I prefer such shows to large and truly large-scale events. He could have long ago turned into a malicious veteran who does not need anything, but who still continues to be kept at the trough for past services. But this does not happen. Antonio is interesting to develop and he continues to attract attention. As for his wrestling, you can talk for a long time. My opinion is that in his standard matches, he uses his basic skills and this is completely enough to entertain the audience and work out his program. But when suddenly it is interesting to show the opposition - he can do it and it is easy to call such a match a good one. The recent match against Sasaki for the Universal Championship is an example of this. Wrestling is not about moves, wrestling is about personalities, which is especially true when we talk about DDT. Everyone reveals their strengths as they see fit. This was the case for Tenryu after 2000, when he made the main priority on personality. This is about Muto right now. This also applies to Honda. I can understand people who don't like it, but for me, Honda will continue to be a wrestler, thanks to which I discovered comedy wrestling. |
