119.01.2024Conquistador378.0Original comment was left on Dec 15 2022 - After getting to rewatch his career once again, I have some minor edits I will scatter throughout and it will end with a point raise. Edited version: One of the best enhancement talents from the mid to late 80's anywhere you saw him. Looked TREMENDOUS and had an excellent physique, hard and versatile worker for the era. I liked what he did in World Class for sure, he was given time to showcase some of his abilities there and gelled very well with Steve Simpson. His tenure in the WWF was looking mostly lousy on Saturday morning but looking definitely good at house shows and on Primetime Wrestling. He had a knack for tag wrestling as well and that might have been the sweet spot for him if not for a premature demise. I wish he had stayed in the business and lived much longer; as he was beginning to bald and had he shaved his head and grown a goatee while keeping *that body*, he could have been a solid mid card heel, would have fit in great in a Jim Herd WCW or a fledging ECW in the mid 90's. Rest in peace, and tragically gone WAY too soon. Very watchable for what's there, even as a tackling dummy he does better than most. 7.5
202.12.2023Silver Shadow7.0Another territory guy that got jobbed out by the WWF. Although it wasn't easy finding his territory work. But heard that he beat Randy Savage for CWA Southern heavyweight belt and had a few runs in places like Portland Wrestling, AWA, & World Class.By the time he went to WWF he got bulkier with Steroids and was a carbon copy of Jim Powers & Paul Roma. When Allen was in the WWF, he was used as a jobber and lost to Ted DiBiase, Hercules, Bob Orton Jr, and Harley Race. Allen only got wins over lower level heel guys at house shows.
324.09.2023MattHall10.0Alright going for another re-edit. Take Jim Powers + Paul Roma = Jerry Allen. Allen had a good body and was a capable worker inside the ring. The only real downside was his mic skills. Wasn't really impressed by his talking which is why you never really saw or heard any Jerry Allen interviews or promos throughout his career. But still, he was a very capable worker in the ring, and had some good matches with Ted DiBiase, Randy Savage, Rick Rudge, Bret Hart, Honky Tonk Man, Demolition, The Islanders, and almost just about everyone who was a heel during his tenure. Allen's biggest highlight of his career was when he defeated Randy Savage for the AWA Southern Heavyweight title in a 30-minute match! Unfortunately, once his WWF contract was up by the Fall of 1988, he pretty much just disappeared from the wrestling and wasn't heard again up until his death in December 1995. Who knows what Allen could've been had he not retired or died so early, could've gone back to Memphis and started a feud with Jerry Lawler, or he could've been an extra hand for ECW. Although if he went to WCW, , he probably would've gotten jobbed there like he did in the WWF. But hey, the guy probably wanted to live a normal life and found something better outside of wrestling. RIP Jerry Allen
