[10.0] "Mai Sakurai's growth over the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable. What once felt like a work in progress has turned into a fully formed main-event presence: confident, consistent, and increasingly dominant. Whether it's singles matches, big title matches, or tag work, she now carries herself like someone who belongs at the top. Watching her evolution from a raw prospect to a reliable centerpiece has been one of the most satisfying long-term arcs in joshi wrestling."
[9.0] "Editing my rating from two years ago because the evolution of Mai Sakurai has been extraordinary. From being one of the greenest wrestlers on the STARDOM roster in her Cosmic Angels days to a developing talent with a strong gimmick in DDM to now being an established main event act, and deservedly so, is remarkable. A tremendously hard worker who always makes her opponents look good whilst remaining believably dominant in her own control segments. Her UN title reign in Marigold was great and I would not be opposed to a future Red Belt reign down the line."
[10.0] "Mai Sakurai in the past few months has improved a lot and she's now a great and competent wrestler. Her match vs Giulia was a star making performance as a singles wrestler and her tag team work alongside MIRAI has been very good too. If she manages to actually become a big draw, she might become pretty important for Marigold. Edit: She has now become one of the best and more consistent wrestlers in the world. Unbelieavable growth."
[9.0] "Mai Sakurai is actually a good dominant worker, Her control segments are always good , She really plays her part well. Someone who's really came a long way and came into her own. She's sort of Lady C with a push. Give her better workers and you'll see a general upturn in goodwill"
[8.0] "Mai Sakurai is good at making her opponents look good. She never shines the brightest at the cost of this but I see what she does, great worker."
"A much improved wrestler. She had charisma and talking down good when Marigold first started but was still a bit rough in the ring. She's improved tremendously in the last year and is most definitely one of the MVPs of the company."
[7.0] "She is a really good wrestler, one of the best in Marigold. She very well could be the next United National Championship / White belt champion, and I am here for it. Her and MIRAI have worn those Unicorn Twin Star Championships very well, defending them in so many great matches that are well worth watching. Don't sleep on Mai Sakurai."
[8.0] "Mai Sakurai has tremendously improved in her last month in Stardom and then in Marigold. She is not the most gifted technically or physically, but she makes up with her heart and stuborness. She has become very reliable, incorporating her mentor Giulia's hard-hitting style in her own with a new sense of purpose."
[7.0] "Seems to be one of the workers who benefitted the most out of the New Blood and Showcase shows and is providing us with an excellent example of someone within the joshi puroresu scene who got an actual gimmick, ran with it and then ultimately owned it and crafted it so well she actually got pushed. Also, in many little ways, Mai really does 'get' wrestling; she's prepared to take big bumps to get noticed, she's got in excellent shape, she realised Cosmic Angels wasn't playing to her strengths and made the intelligent move to DDM in a well crafted storyline. It's also worth mentioning that she's adroitly used social media to present her character and she seems to have great judgement so doesn't make her feuds tediously ostentatious and OH SO EMOTIONAL so that they become unrelateable to all but the smallest margin of people. She really stepped it up when she went to Marigold too and her matches, particularly her singles matches, are noticeably better."
[8.0] "I'm rating Mai based on her work in Marigold. I wasn't too high on her in Stardom but clearly she has been given more responsibility in Marigold. She has put on a fair amount of solid matches and is a highlight of any Marigold show, especially since winning the white belt. Her revamped look with new ring gear is awesome too. It's nice to see her in-ring work catch up with her natural charisma. Also, I love whenever she picks up the mic as she has one of the nicest and most unique voices in wrestling."
[8.0] "Mai Sakurai Marigold version has managed to raise her level significantly! Huge progress, she deserves the white belt she just obtained, largely! Since Giulia left, and even the moment of her farewell, she has completely transformed. Tougher in the ring, more serious, more of what a champion is made of."
[8.0] "Something happened to Mai after that Giulia match, she is like a completely different wrestler now, and I'm really happy for that she doesn't try to do the Giulia cosplay again and the lady gimmick has work so well and even better in Marigold, now the push she is getting is deserved"
[9.0] "I've watched Mai for a few years now. While her overall rating is fair for most of her career, something seems to have clicked for her in Marigold and she's gotten really good. I don't know how many years she plans to wrestle at her age given that joshis tend to retire younger than male wrestlers, but she's poised to do some big things if she sticks around. I can definitely see her getting a singles title, something I never would have dreamed of saying about her back in Stardom. 2025 will be her year."
[8.0] "People are not giving mai sakurai enough credit, I think she has gotten a lot better, maybe in stardom she was overpushed without being that good, but i think in marigold she has done a lot of great things, joshi fans do not use cagematch that much so is gonna take a lot of time for her ranking to get better, but if you are new and you are reading this, I can tell you that mai sakurai is a good wrestler that can gave you great and passionate maches."
[8.0] "Much improved in the past year, especially since joining Marigold. But her character work in 2023 really shone through, alongside her tag team with Mirai. She's got a great character, is over with the crowd and good on the mic. Her in ring has improved too, she's a solid mid carder for Marigold and her match against Giulia really showcased how far she's come of late"
[7.0] ". Incredible run in Marigold so far. Since her match against Giulia, she looks like someone else. Something clicked for her since that match. She's carrying herself like a star, and look like a star. Only the start, can't wait to see what's in store for her in the future."
[7.0] "I like Mai a lot more then most people, she can be quite good when wrestling the right people (Especially in tag matches) but definitely can't carry a match by herself."
[6.0] "Back when she was in Cosmic Angels, she was one of the wrestlers i liked the less of Stardom's roster because she had an empty character, was extremely average due to her lack of experience and was a charisma vaccum but fortunately Stardom put her in Donna Del Mondo where she started to gain charisma, attitude, ring skill and step by step, she turned into a good worker but since she got the "Ladyship" gimmick, she has been one of the most entertaining character of the roster. She's not an amazing worker yet but she's still improving, she adds new moves in her repertoire, she improves more her character, improves her in ring movement and despite the fact she's 33 yo, she has a lot of potential, just look at Mina Shirakawa who turned into a great worker in her mid thirties."
[3.0] "What's the difference between a pin eater and an enhancement talent? An enhancement talent is somebody who, despite being pinned or be made to submit in every match he/she is in, will make the show a little bit more interesting and his/her rivals look a little bit better. A pin eater is somebody like Mai Sakurai: she's just there to be pinned or made submit and adding exactly zero to the show."
[7.0] "These ratings are way too harsh for her. I know her character does not stand out much but I like Mai. I saw her a bit in AWG and she was really just there; she didn't do much and I did not care for her much. But under the Stardom banner she has really developed into a decent wrestler. If she can hit it consistently; her new leg drop finisher is amazing."
[3.0] "Mai seems like a nice person but she's a poor wrestler, no two ways about it. It's never easy to get super great in wrestling when you start late (especially with zero athletic background) but her bar for quality is especially low. As people have said she's gotten better, but better from real bad is still, well, bad. I've seen her have bad matches with people who you have to be particularly inept to have a bad performance out of in the first place, and she's gotten more of that kind of match than anything worth watching in three years of performances. She's not as horrifically green as she was in 2020/2021, but she still has miles to go before she's anything worth checking out in-ring. Weak strikes, bad grappling, basically everything just doesn't click at present. Awful in singles, not much better in tags. Needs a lot of improvement before she can actually do anything of worth so far."
[6.0] ""if I copy guilia people will like me" appears to be mai's gimmick. she's improved but veers wildly from being okay to sloppy as hell from move to move."
[5.0] "My issue with Mai is that she's inconsistent from a move to move basis. Makes it very hard to invest in her matches when she goes from looking fine to bad multiple times in a match. Nonetheless, she is slightly better than she used to be"
[5.0] "Probably on the low end for gifted in-ring performers in STARDOM, but you can't deny her improvements over the past year. Far more comfortable than she was before."
[6.0] "Mai has a unique charm to her that makes her very likable as an underdog. She's got the theatrics down, which is the main reason I'm giving her a 6. Her in-ring is a work in progress, which is to be expected for someone who has had under 30 matches on their resume. Even if she's not a young prospect, I think she has the potential to become pretty good and well-rounded sooner rather than later. Mina Shirakawa was in a similar spot a year ago and she's figured it out for the most part. I think Mai can do the same."
