Don Callis is an amazing promo artist, amazing scumbag heel manager for Kenny Omega & The Elite, has tons of charisma to make himself believable, and he reminds me a lot of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. UPDATED: Don Callis has finally betrayed Kenny Omega, which was destined to happen the whole time. Kenny Omega is a naturally believable Babyface, while Don Callis will always be a natural Heel. Also, Don Callis' character is that he is a big mouth manager that knows how to say the right things, but at the end of the day, he is a blood sucking gravy train rider. Kenny Omega has recently said that his career is starting to wind down and he is not sure how much longer he will last. Don Callis then realizes that it's time to leave Kenny and find the next gravy train to ride. That has me wondering about where Konosuke Takeshita really fits in with all of this. Because why would Don Callis recruit a guy to join a faction that he knew that he was soon to betray? It is a very interesting turn of events."
[10.0] "In his various roles Don was always an excellent promo, I didn't get to see much as a wrestler but what I saw was pretty good, he's also very good on commentary, and even helped book one of the better Impact Wrestling eras That kind of diversity earns a 10"

[9.0] "Out of all of the years that he's been on television, whether it was The Jackyl, Cyrus the Virus, Cyrus, etc, I feel like he's doing his best work now. Don't get me wrong, he had a good cup of coffee as far as his heel work in WWE, his ECW heel work was good...but I don't think their programming ever had to reach to get him out there ( i didn't get ECW until August of 99 - it closed January of 01), and TNA used him on their weekly ppvs but it's kinda the same thing... he was gone by the time more folks got the product. Now though with AEW, his relationship with Omega, and having the TNT/TBS platform to be magnified on, I feel now he's showing how great of a heel he is/could of been. His promos are great. He has "I wanna kick your ass" heat on him. The outlandish outfits make you hate him even more. And on top of that, he's managing a guy, one of the EVP's who he's able to brag about, and you can't really deny his claims."

[9.0] "I haven't seen Callis' work from WWE and I rarely watch Impact but everything that I have seen from him is excellent. His NJPW work is great. Loved him alongside Kevin Kelly calling the G1 or legendary matches such as Okada/Omega. His spark was reignited recently with his role as Kenny Omega's heel manager on AEW and the invasion storyline. Just fantastic character work and promos from him. He could be a bit too silly at times but he's in the Elite so that's to be expected."

Callis' return to the wrestling world has been a gift and his involvement in AEW since last September was a godsend to anchor and evolve the heel turns and characters of the Bucks and Omega. Callis was great before, if I recall his ECW and even late 90s WWF runs correctly, but in 2021 it is very hard for me to think of a better non-wrestling character."

Cyrus in ECW just felt like another heel authority and even back then I found that role to mostly be an annoyance. I find his current Impact commentary atrocious."
[7.0] "This man was a great worker. Excellent on the mic. His style was great. A cruiseweight that could have gone farther. Too bad WWE did not use him a crusierweight wrestler and competed for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship. Not a bad manager when he was with Kurrgan and the Truth Commission. His arrogance was excellent to get heat with the crowd. Underrated heel. In ECW he was not too bad as Cyrus the Virus. His last best work was in TNA as management consultant."
[10.0] "Probably couldn't wrestle to save his life but oh well, that's not really why anyone is rating him. It would be like rating Heyman or Ross on their in ring ability. In ECW and NJPW his commentary is miles ahead of any colour commentator I've ever heard. In ECW his ability to play off Joey Styles in any segment or match was incredible, probably most noteable during the Dudleys Heatwave 99 incident. His feud with Joel Gertner was also very memorable. I think many were surprised at first when NJPW hired him to replace Steve Corino who qas WWE bound, but what a decision it was. It eventually led to Chris Jericho signing with NJPW and in theory helped sow the seeds for AEW although Don Callis himself was not involved with that."

From his days as the Jackyl and Cyrus, Don Callis has always been at or near the top of professional wrestling as a talker, despite the criticism of how he "gets over" at the expense of the talent. He, along with Scott D'amore, have really turned around IMPACT with their competent leadership."

He was entertaining in his WWF stint despite being saddled with lousy gimmicks to manage, but it was in ECW as Cyrus the Virus where he really shined. Realistically he's probably more an 8 than a 9, but I bumped it up because his current rating is way too low."

[10.0] "I think The Jackyl is really one of the most underrated wrestlers and managers in the history of wrestling. This guy was so smart when he was on the mic all the time! He always knew exactly what to say and his delivery was perfect beyond belief! When he would talk on the mic throughout a Kurrgan or a Truth Commission match, he never stopped talking and never messed up what he said at all! Even when he was Cyrus in ECW, he was still awesome on the mic and never messed up what he said ever and that to me is absolute perfection at its finest! I was a kid back then in 1997 and 1998 when I was watching and I still remember full well that he was one of the best promo guys in the wrestling history but the reason why I say he's underrated is simply because nowadays people don't talk about The Jackyl anymore and people don't instantly think of him as one of the best managers or talkers in wrestling history even though he technically was a wrestler back in those days, he was more of a manager or in an on-air non-wrestling role than he was a wrestler. The Jackyl will always be in my mind, one of the best talkers and managers in the history of wrestling bar none!"
