123.04.2024face painted legend8.0Ed McDaniel was a legit bad ass/ tough guy who took a lot of pride in his Native American heritage. He was an ex NFL football player, I believe he played for the New York Jets and somebody else. A great in ring performer in his time and one of the most believable in ring performers of all time. Was great as a babyface and as a heel. Could cut a great promo. Had legendary matches with the likes of Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine, Magnum T.A., Manny Fernandez, etc., that will stand the test of wrestling time for sure. He booked the AWA in it's final years and did a solid job of that, but i don't think even he could've turned that place around..

501.06.2023Giantfan19804.0Only saw his last days stuff and he was very "meh" at that point. His era had passed him by and he had nothing but his gimmick going on. At least he was a legitimate Native American unlike that carny Strongbow!

714.03.2023Conquistador374.0(Edit: he's losing points as I age) *sigh* I always wanted to like him but he's mostly an unlikable character and not a very exciting wrestler. Heel or babyface, his promos made him come off as a sore loser and often pathetic. He also always looked tired, out of shape, hungover and in general I just could never seem to care because of all of these negatives that he pretty much bashes you over the head with. If there is a pure compliment with no back handed intentions, it's that his chops had a great "POP! " to them and sometimes it makes you say: "DAMN! ". Another positive is; he usually worked well when paired with Manny Fernandez, as allies or opposition (for whatever reason there seems to be more fire and passion when the two share the ring). The negatives outweigh the positives, not a fan - but there is much worse. 4.25 rounded down.

1101.05.2022WhatIsLooveee8.0One of the best wrestlers of the 70s, and then booker, personifying the phrase "old school" and concurrently the owner of one of the toughest chops in wrestling. A truly legendary figure who has contributed to development of the industry.

1307.08.2021krukster9.0Anyone that has watched his full career can not possibly rate him below an 8. Respectable on the mic, and superb ring phycology. Legendary feuds with Tully, Rick Flair, Magnum, and others. His chops were a thing of beauty.

1717.01.2019JEK 199110.0Excellent wrestler surprised that he has a lower rating. He had an excellent hand chop that he would use on his opponents. Very well remembered in the Mid-Atlantic. His feud with Johnny Valentine was amazing.

1908.01.2018Kings Road To NWA9.0Wahoo McDaniel is arguably one of the top pro wrestlers of the 1970's. His matches with Johnny Valentine were excellent examples of how to put on a believable match. His feuds with guys like Ric Flair and Greg Valentine helped establish those two as legitimate performers. In my opinion, Wahoo was far better than his contemporary, Jay Strongbow, who he seems to be compared to quite a bit. Much better in ring performer than Strongbow, and Wahoo did not need to rely on the Native American gimmick as much to get over with the fans as Strongbow did (maybe because Strongbow was not really a Native American). As a fan from North Carolina, I can speak to how over Wahoo was with the fans in the Mid-Atlantic territory. He was arguably the most over baby face in the territory until Ricky Steamboat came into the territory. In 1984, when Wahoo turned heel and aligned himself with Tully Blanchard, fans in the Mid-Atlantic/Jim Crockett Promotions territory were shocked. Great in ring performer, very believable performer of the kayfabe era and a performer that really knew how to connect with the fans. Arguably one of the top 10 best pro wrestlers in all of pro wrestling in the 1970's era.
2004.01.2017Squared Circle8.0Great wrestler and a real tough guy. Former AFL NY Jet. Great gimmick as a hard fighting baby face Indian. He was over with the crowd. Fought all the big names in both singles and tag team matches. Didn't nearly have the charisma or gimmick as Strongbow, despite the fact Jay as not native American. His gimmick eclipsed Wahoo's. If it weren't for that, he'd have a higher rating.
2112.05.2016Rastarazor19707.0Wahoo McDaniel was tough wrestler and another of the Indian characters back in the day along with Jay Youngblood. The "Wahoo Chop".. he loved choppin on Flair's chest. Great matches between Wahoo and Flair, Wahoo and Black Jack Mulligan and I believe The masked super-star, Greg Valentine, Ricky Steamboat .. he wrestled everybody. Not flashy, and don't remember any serious movement. Was just tough and lots of endurance.
