[6.0] "[3.00/5.00]: Mauro Ranallo is a bit of a strange commentator for me, sure he's loud and sort of knowledgable on the craft he's presenting, but comes out as obnoxious on the same level as Excalibur and just as annoying but without sounding like a total geek (Kind of like McAfee but McAfee is a goofball and I love him because he feels out of place). Sure he can make a match exciting but only at contextual limits, this in-process undermines his own prowess, bit of an overrated one but still lovable to some degree."
[10.0] "NXT's best commentator if you ask me, him and Nigel McGuinness together was just heaven sent, they were such a good pair. Often showcasing tons of passion and energy on the commentary booth, he could make any match sound better than it already is or than it really is, he could make an Omos match sound like a Meltzer approved 7 Star Match. While his shoehorned pop culture references were lame, it doesn't completely overshadow his work. He displayed amazing play-by-play skills, great expressions and knowledge, you can tell this man is a professional at calling combat sports, especially he sounds like he belongs in commentary no matter if it's wrestling or MMA, he is a perfect fit. I miss this man so much, I really wish he never left the business and would still commentate today, could you imagine how amazing Collision would be now if we still had Mauro Ranallo in the business and decided to debut and commentate with Nigel McGuinness, I would watch every week just for that alone. Overall, Mauro Ranallo is one of the best play-by-play guys in the business, really made every match better, truly feel bad about his mental health problems, and deserves to be recognize as one of the all time best commentators."
[2.0] "Mauro Ranallo shoehorning in forced pop culture references and running all over his broadcasts colleagues is bar-none the cringiest commentary I have ever had to endure. OK, maybe not Gabe Sapolsky bad but you get the point. If this was an MMA or Boxing website I'd put him near the top, his commentary in other forms of sport are a joy to witness. I'm an old school PRIDE fan so I'll love him forever. But oh my GOD. He didn't even start that bad, but he got worse, and worse, and worse... he ruined big moments every single broadcast. He'd oversell medium-big moments and take the air out of them. You could hear the other guys in the booth get cut off from their points and not even try to recover. And I can't imagine Vince was in his ear telling him to dork it up harder, y'know?"
[10.0] "One of the best English commentator of all time. His days in Pride were so great next to Bass Rotten and even his days in wrestling were more than great from Japan to America...What distinguishes him is his wonderful voice, his love for work, and his perseverance in studying what he presents, so you find him distinguished from others..."
[10.0] "Best English commentator of all time. Wasn't around for long, and certainly had a distinct style, but at least to me, no one can come close. Commentates circles around Ross and Excalibur. A big part about why NXT TV and PPVs were so legendary. Flowed well with Nigel McGuinness."
Mamma Mia!"
[10.0] "God I miss this man in the booth. His commentary was just so good I remember watching some truly dreadful Smackdowns just to hear his awesome energetic and wholesome commentary. Also having a mental health advocate around in WWE was also so awesome. The Fed has never found anyone near as good as him since he left NXT in 2020. I would love to see him return to Pro Wrestling someday if he's up to it. He's my one of my favorite announcers of all time so he's an easy 10/10."
[10.0] "The best commentator in WWE history next to Jim Ross. Outstanding expression, commentary skills, voice, diction...the man-legend of this business! It's a shame that his stay in the WWE was disrupted by JBL's idiotic behavior, otherwise Mauro may have been covering fights in the WWE to this day."
[10.0] "Mamma Mia! His work on Andrade/Gargano is THE ABSOLUTE BEST I HAVE HEARD SINCE J.R. in like 1997. He is awesome. NXT NEEDS him so bad. Bring him back. Let main roster stan have pat mcneely or whatever and give us back Mauro!"
[10.0] "Mamma Mia! In my opinion, the best commentator in wrestling history. I loved his emotions and his commentary in WWE in 2016, especially Smackdown Live"
[6.0] "So I guess a lot of people finally saw that Mauro wasn't nearly as great as his cult following made him out to be. I definitely don't hate him, but he had some really bad habits. One of the most annoying things is that he always worked with 2 other people on commentary yet constantly spoke over them. His forced pop culture references annoy the hell out of me. One thing I hate the most about modern day commentary is when a commentator talks about something totally unrelated to the match. He's got a good voice and sounds professional when he's not shrieking at a superkick."
[3.0] "He is very, very overrated. He is good at one thing, and that is calling big moments. That? s it. Some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is just plain stupid. He yells way too much, and his attempts to shoehorn pop culture into his commentary always falls flat. I don? t know why he is so loved by modern wrestling fans."
[7.0] "Fantastic commentator, wasn't the best manager however, which lowers his rating for me slightly, though other then that I find him an amazing commentator, though some of his NXT play-by-plays weren't the best, he oftentimes over exaggerated too much, he's going to go down as a legendary commentator/analyst as he should, it's just, rating him RIGHT NOW he's a 7, though once he retires it'd be an easy 10."
[9.0] "Easily the best play-by-play commentator WWE has ever had during my life except for the legendary Jim Ross. He was, and still is, remarkably able to mix his strong knowledge of moves, thanks to his time with PRIDE, with the pure exuberance you'd want in a person in his position. He could go overboard sometimes, but I've always felt that it's far worse to underdo a call than overdo it."
[8.0] "Overrated. Has a lot of knowledge about the history of the business and calls the moves, but his voice is annoying and he screams a lot for no reason. His style just gets on my nerves. Tolerable on small doses."
[5.0] "Mauro Ranallo commenting on MMA and boxing and even in NJPW he did a great job, but when he came to WWE and specifically to NXT he transformed into a kind of clown that wouldn't stop screaming and besides being very annoying, I don't know if that was a order that came from HHH to oversell a match, but anyway, his last stint in pro wrestling was mediocre in my opinion."
[10.0] "I understand that some people may not like his commentary style, but this dude is a genius. He has a pretty good all-around wrestling knowledge and his voice is like no other, he sells the excitement for a match as anyone has ever done."
[9.0] "One of my favourite if not my favourite play by play commentator. I absolutely loved his reactions and his pop culture reference as I love pop culture. Most fans will universally like JR more than Mauro but personally Mauro is my absolute favourite. He is geeky and his details are really accurate."
[3.0] "This week's NXT finally led to me rating this arsehole of a commentator. For me he sums up everything bad that NXT as a brand has come to represent. He embodies the NXT fanboy attitude, exaggerates, shrieks and sees brilliance where normal wrestling fans see averageness. With more appropriate and refined commentary, like McGuinness, I would enjoy the product a lot more."
[4.0] "Mauro would be a good announcer if he was in a one man booth. Like a 7 out of 10. But he is not. He works with 2 other people in the desk. And he doesn't care. He talks over them, yelling non-sensical shit about pop stars and movie references. A guy like Michael Cole and Impact's Josh Matthews get shit for being annoying catchphrase machines. Yet this dude tried to make "Sir-Kicks-A-Lot" happen for Aleister Black. In the most recent WarGames he was non-stop repeating "THE EST OF NXT BIANCA BELAIR". At least the "I'TS BOSS TIME" happens once per show..."
[2.0] "Mauro might genuinely be the worst commentator I've ever had the unfortunate luck of listening to. This guy just never improves. Whether by personal choice or not, he's still shovelling the same old shallow 'hip' memes and 'sick' pop culture references. He shows good wrestling knowledge, and at times he actually feels like the most genuine 'sports' commentator in WWE, but he tries far too hard too often to say something 'hip' or 'cool', and it's damn embarrassing. All his catchphrases and pop-culture references are incredibly cringeworthy. He basically comes off as if saying "so how about them TWITTERS and those MEMES and the latest cool MUSIC ALBUM huh fellow kids? ". He's totally oblivious to how absolutely dated all these forced references will be in just 6 months time or even sooner. If he just stuck to calling moves and making wrestling references then he would probably be the best commentator I've ever heard. Sadly, he's very focussed on playing up the """cool""" WWE commentator role, and he loses a lot of credibility because of it. He has a massive cult following of people who love him, but I find that he just makes wrestling come across as hokey and tries to get himself over at the expense of the wrestlers in the ring."
[0.0] "Horrible beyond words, he's too loud and annoying and his catchphrases are stupid, he really ruins NXT for me and I usually have to just mute the TV to enjoy anything, ok so he knows the moves, that doesn't matter if you're beyond boring on commentary which he is, he maybe the worst to ever do it, either him or Michael Cole"
"He's my favorite commentator, probably because I didn't grow up with Joey Styles. But he gives me the same vibes. A good balance between informing the audience and just being a fan who enjoys wrestling. He gives NXT matches something more with his emotions and yet he doesn't distract from the matches. As a commentator he's in my eyes a 10/10. But it's notable that he does indeed have more freedom than for example Michael Cole on the main show has and this has a big impact."
[5.0] "When he signed with NXT and started working as its colour commentator, I thought he was one of the best in the entire world. His passion was contagious and, therefore, I loved hearing his comments. However, as soon as I paid more attention to his work, I soon realized that he wasn't as good as I first believed. He shouts at every single match, at every single spot. Every moment looks exactly the same and he makes the small details seem like big deals. Above average, but I really can't stand his comments for much long."
[8.0] "Fairly overrated, but he's still one of the better guys out there today. He can be too loud at times & the phony names he gives to moves can sound looney. But he's a wrestling encyclopedia & he knows his stuff. He has the dial cranked up to about a 12 all the time & if he's bring it down a few notches & stopped stepping on other people's toes so much, he's be easier to stomach."
[8.0] "Mauro can be an excellent commentator, but he has a tendency to make the smallest of things seem like a big deal; he'll scream and shout over something mundane, and he'll seem more like someone doing a bad impression of a pro wrestling announcer than an actual pro wrestling announcer. Mauro also needs to dial back on the pop culture references. They don't need to be shoehorned into every match or segment."
[4.0] "I was enthralled by Mauro when he first showed up in WWE. Now I find him absolutely insufferable. Every time he utters one of his tired catchphrases, all I can think is "You are completely full of shit". It takes me out of the match. Essentially Matt Striker with a deeper voice"
[9.0] "The best modern day commentator in the business. Makes the matches he calls feel like a sporting event than a wrestling match. While this doesn't play well into storytelling, it makes great matches feel huge and just adds to the epicness of the event. Definitely best when covering the big fights."
[5.0] "He is actually really damn good when he isn't trying too hard to shove those super annoying pop culture references to try & seem hip, but he absolutely spams them too much. His performance at NXT Takeover: War Games established that."
[10.0] "Eindeutig mein liebster WWE-Kommentator. 1. "MAMAMIA" und 2. "The unforgiving steel".....
[10.0] "He's one of the best commentary hires in a long while, and as a commentator myself, he's top notch. Ranallo is a move encyclopedia, who can spout out moves and action without being boring or just showing off. His storytelling is good, and he can build up a dramatic moment very well which is something that had been lost since J. R. left. Yes, Ranallo can get cheesy and obnoxious with the pop culture reference, but hey commentary is all about finding and cultivating a unique voice, and Mauro has done so. He's the best commentator currently in the company, and that doesn't appear to chance anytime soon."
[7.0] "I like Mauro but I believe he is rated by many on a curve of the modern announcers standard. If we look at him, he wouldn't stand up to the likes of Jim Ross. This isn't a knock, just helps to compare and rate him better."
Herrlich :D"
[9.0] "Excellent comentator, shows love for wrestling. He knows the moves, he has a nice voice and he can narrate greatly a match and feel like you've really been informed, not shouted by a drunk student, a grandpa that thinks he fight WW II when he just was a paper boy in New York and another one that only thinks in sexism. I mean of course Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry Lawler. Hope Mauro goes to RAW and PPVs, he really is good comenting."
[8.0] "Is good but doesnt deserve to be better than Heyman, Michaels etc. 1000 times better than Lawler, Booker T & Saxton but still not a 10! Since when commentators are so fcking over :D ? !"
