628.02.2022inmate jom9.0ULTRA SOUL~! Naruse is fucking sweet, an absolute monster of a shoot-style junior who killed it pretty much everywhere he went. His work in RINGS is of course amazing, with some very very solid grappling mixed with his amazing striking, but his work in actual pro wrestling style matches was phenomenal as well. He had tons of fun matches in NJPW, with highlights including his encounters with Minoru Tanaka, Minoru Suzuki, Takehiro Murahama, and especially his match with Murakami and his match with Tanahashi. The Crazy Cyclone is one of the greatest strikes of all time too, so that's just icing on the cake. One of the best juniors wrestlers in the world in his prime, and someone who deserves so much more praise than he actually gets.
710.11.2021SZ19899.0Naruse had a very good career as a shoot-style guy and a technical wrestler later on in the 2000s. While he didn't light the world on fire with amazing matches, he was always proficient and made his matches worth watching with technical skill and believability in approach. His longevity and contribution to shoot-style as a whole convince me he deserves a very good rating.
818.03.2021flemingmma7.0An original disciple of Akira Maeda, his work in RINGS, while never as realistic as that of Kohsaka or Tamura, was excellent. Every time he was caught in a double wrist lock i'd be aching to see him flip out of it in a manner that was believable in the shoot style context. While perhaps not adapting to traditional wrestling after, his RINGS work, I believe, merits a high rating.
