825.11.2023crs2857.0Valentine had incredible longevity in the ring. His in-ring work was solid for his time period. He had a good presence and played the heel well. Was good as a solo act or a talented tag team wrestler.
925.10.2023Meng9.0Greg Valentine worked in the major American federations for more than two decades, playing very good matches both in singles and in tag team, especially in the first phase of his career until the end of the 80s. His career then lasted even longer, for a total of almost 50 years in the business. Equipped with good technique for his time, and playing a good heel character, he however suffered from his mic-skills and charisma which prevented him from often aiming for the main event.
1018.10.2023celticinvader5.0Solid in the early years, with great chops and elbow shots, but his spark dwindled out incredibly quickly. By the late 80s, a shadow of his former self, becoming unwatchable against the fresher talent. I don't think he was ever good on the mic either.

2209.04.2023Giantfan19807.0Aside from Dusty Rhodes, nobody threw those elbow shots better than Valentine! Had a decent enough look, not very good on the mic but he was perfect with a manager like Jimmy Hart and being in a heel stable. A great addition to the Hulk Hogan "Rogues Gallery"

2611.11.2022Squared Circle8.0Excellent worker and a strong mid card heel. Lacked a bit of charisma on the mic. The Dream Team was very good He was a good IC champ. Good feud with Santana and an excellent feud with Wahoo. Red hot feud with an aging Strongbow, filled arenas. If you haven't seen the chair throwing strap match with Chief Jay from Philly, you really need to. I did not like his face turn, which costs a point. His figure four was legendary, brreaking legs across the country. I didn't particulary like his run with Backlund, which is part Backlund's fault. Bob gave a strong match, but the heels brought the heat and got people in the door. Greg was enjoyable to watch, but in the old WWWF, that wasn't enough. Heels HAD to bring heat and he just didn't. The fans wanted a street fight, not slow, methodical, work on the oppopnent's leg mat wrestling. Strongbow put him over as much as possible to help him rise the ladder, but Greg seemed to peak at the mid card level
2727.10.2022No One9.0One of the best Midcard & Tag Team wrestlers ever. Was a memorable WWE Intercontinental Champion. Had legendary feuds with Roddy Piper, Wahoo McDaniel, & Tito Santana, while also having a memorable feud with Ric Flair, turning on him after they used to be a successful tag team, and he had a memorable feud with Bob Backlund for the WWWF World Title. He also teamed with Brutus Beefcake to engage in a memorable feud with The British Bulldogs during the legendary era of 1980's WWF Tag Team wrestling. He was a highly talented slow paced Ring General and a notable very stiff, hard-hitter. Had an extremely long career that last for several decades. Was the son of the legendary Johnny Valentine of whom he adopted much of his in-ring style from.
2817.10.2022Conquistador3710.0As time progresses and as I am able to watch even more of this man's career, the more I appreciate and value his contributions to professional wrestling. Almost always Greg injected as much possible realism as he could, only winking n nodding with that goofy face first bump (The Ric Flair style one). Had some great looking suplexes and shoulder breakers. Some of the BEST chops in all of wrestling history, tremendous elbow drops n smashes as well. The Hammer was one of THE most dependable and watchable wrestlers in all of the 70's & 80's. He always kept in very good shape ~ somehow maintained the same general physique for decades! Was an excellent tag partner (the Dick Slater pairing is so underrated that it's disgusting). He was one of the best things going on in pre National expansion new York/WWF. He was absolutely one of the best things about Mid Atlantic. He was a staple in the WWF golden era. His early 90's WCW work is grossly under appreciated. He had good chemistry with many you wouldn't expect and the feuds with Tito Santana and Roddy Piper were platinum - however I still find his work with Ron Garvin unsatisfying (from both). I'm seeing comments about how he overstayed his welcome, but from as far back as the beginnings all the way to around the turn of the century, if The Hammer is on - I'm glued. UNDERRATED and I can't say enough good things about the man, his material has aged marvelously. The caveat of course, is if you're only into the modern style of flippy floppy avoidy contacty and aren't into realism or a methodical pace, guys like this will probably always be too good for you ;)

3521.04.2022UWF Rules Enthusiast5.0Greg Valentine was certainly not talentless, but he was a very plain and somewhat dull wrestler. He did a pretty good job carrying Brutus Beefcake in the so-called "Dream Team" in mid '80s WWF. However, in general, there are very few moments in his career that were truly good.

4319.06.2021hirsty977.0his style fit in well with the late 70s/early 80s wrestling, had some memorable bouts with Backlund, those who dismiss him as merely a Ric Flair clone have no idea what they are talking about

4623.01.2021Brett19806.0Apart from the dog collar match with Piper I find him incredibly boring. He had decent technical skills but just so boring.
4720.01.2021Shoot Headbutt Lover1.0Not good on the mic and the complete banality of his work rate, mixed in with being a Ric Flair clone makes Greg "The Hammer" Valentine a poor worker imo. I know he's got that Dog Collar match against Piper going for him but that's it, there's nothing else to him.

5228.07.2020krukster7.0No so good on the mic, a really good worker. His style wasn't for everyone as he was a matt wrestler, but his figure four submission move was always believable. If he had better mic skills and some charisma he would be a 9 in my book, but he is what he is lower-upper card.

5701.08.2019KyleEnjoysWrestling6.0Greg Valentine had a very lengthy career. He shined the brightest in the earlier part of his WWE career & in Mid-Atlantic. He was very solid in the ring, however he didn't have the persona that would get him to true main event status that peers such as Piper or Flair saw. He never connected with me personally, which is why I score him the way that I do. But I understand how others might rate him more favorably. A shame that he seems to be so miserable later in life with the interviews that we hear from him today.
5820.03.2019zephyr5.0Valentine was okay. Not bad, not great, not exciting, not unique. Just one of those guys who was around for ages without really adding to or dragging down any show he was on.

6118.11.2018RatingsMachine6.0Greg Valentine was your classic solid worker; he didn't have anything outstanding in his arsenal, but he always made a match look good by knowing how to make guys look good.
6215.10.2018JEK 19914.0To be honest with you I haven't really followed him that much. He was great in the Mid-Atlantic but other than that not so much. His father is Johnny Valentine and is following his father's footsteps. His father was a better wrestler. The one point I will give him is the submission move the figure 4 lock, second points for being a great heel, third for copying Ric Flair with his robes and moves, and fourth for the promos he did. This man is not a great wrestler as he has limited moves. He is boring to watch. The feuds he had with Tio Santana, Wahoo McDaniel, Roddy Piper and Junkyard Dog were great. After losing the Intercontinental title he went downhill in his career and went into low card status. The man is overrated in my opinion. Can't believe he's still wrestling and is totally washed up. He is also very old school circia 1948 and is sexist which I have not respect for him.

6529.09.2018Razorokada9.06. 46/10 is a shame for such a good and important wrestler in Mid-Atlantic and other territories of the NWA. But I guess people who rated him that low only saw him wrestle in WWF, which is unfair according to the rules
6714.04.2018Gauntlet847.0I never saw his work in the 70s but he was just a "middle of the pack" wrestler to me. A solid opponent but never a star. He has a long career and was a part of some great matches. He wasn't flashy but he was effective.

7114.01.2018jcb95.0I never really got Valentine. He was a good worker, sure, but not spectacularly so. Beyond that, he had no charisma, no mic skills, no look, nothing to really separate him from a bunch of other wrestlers who were ALSO good workers. Just being a tough guy isn't necessarily enough to make an entertaining wrestler.
7213.10.2017IsThisWrestling6.0Just judging the first 15 or so years of his career, Valentine was an awesome, awesome wrestler. However, seeing as he hasn't gave a fuck about his performances or treating himself like a legitimate legend for the past 30 years, I can only rate him so high.

7415.08.2017Mizzle Assault Ant10.0A fantastic talent, improves any match he is in with powerful strikes, engaging offense, and a true craftsman's understanding of how to work a crowd. A major upper midcarder and tag team worker, he could pretty much do it all and challenged at the top level many times during his prime. Very underrated performer.

7804.01.2017SpruseJohnson4.0Very overrated if ya ask me. Never had a real good look & was nothing on the mic. In today's wrestling world he would of been a jobber
7906.12.2016tobiwwe8.0Zu seiner Zeit fand ich The Hammer immer unterhaltsam.
8016.11.2016Bigchiefmartin8.0He should be mid 8! One of the top wrestlers of the 70s and early 80s, Greg Valentine competed about everywhere in North America and carved a niche for himself in history. Being the son of a legendary wrestler, Greg "the Hammer" Valentine was able to shake the legacy of his great father and build a similar reputation as tough and very able competitor. His signature methodical matches, where he could make almost anyone look good. he had that very tough brutal manner very very believable very very good solid mat base technical skills with a great move set for it plus he had very hard stiff snug strikes, from the mid 70's to mid 80's he was one of the most elite wrestlers on earth! not flashy he was OK on the mic pre hogan WWF, he was a no nonsense, a wrestler's wrestler, a outstanding tag wrestler 1st as Johnny Fargo, Don's brother. The two, known as the "Fabulous Fargo Brothers, " were a successful tag team in the early 70s. Then as himself with with Ric Flair they was a 2x Nwa world tag champ then 1x Baron von Raschke, 1x Ray Stevens won tag gold with others too! One of the greatest U. S Champ of all time ! Look it up in the late 70's early 80's had wars with Flair, Paul Jones, Ricky Steamboat, Wahoo McDaniel, Roddy Piper, Bob Orton Jr. Blackjack Mulligan, Bob Backlund, Johnny Weaver, Masked Superstar, Tito Santana, all was great yea like 85% of all wrestlers he stayed past their prime should be viewed for more of his prime

8710.06.2016The Chosen One7.0A master of the figure four leglock, The Hammer was obviously a sound technician, but also a fine brawler. He had no flashy gimmick or style, but he was effective in the ring and he was great to put over other talents. The former Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion was also inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2004 which he rightfully deserved.
8812.05.2016Rastarazor19709.0Greg "The Hammer Valentine" .. one of my top 3 or 4 favorites. Great tag team partner with Ric Flair. Was no nonsense and mean as hell. Bar room brawler type.
8906.03.2016Super Mastodon7.0Greg "The Hammer" Valentine was good, especially in his prime. His feud with Tito Santana for the Intercontinental Championship is one of the best feuds back in the day! But nowadays he is just a shell of his former self and had made some very controversial comments about Women's Wrestling which really downgraded his reputation.
