A nonsensical angle disguised as a match that wastes the Tag Team Champions by feeding them to one guy while Paul Heyman shrieks into the mic every five minutes. I'm harsh on Taker's wrestling around this time, but this match being a stinker wasn't his fault. Taker fights to save Paul Bearer from being drowned in concrete, wins, and just kills him anyway for the hell of it. How WWE decided to let this match main event over the excellent JBL vs Eddie Guerrero Bull Rope match is beyond me. Avoid." |

A really bad and bizarre start to a PPV that was very solid. The next match with Darby and Sammy would've been way hotter way to start things off and this could have been left off the card entirely and no one would have missed it in the slightest. Even if they were dead set on this being on the show I don't know why it was the opener." |
3 | 03.03.2024 01:09 | RihoEnthusiast wrote about Air Paris vs. AJ Styles: [0.0] "This is, without question, one of the worst individual performances I have ever seen. I almost feel bad for giving this a 0, as it doesn't reflect two groups of people who worked very hard to make this work. The crowd, mostly children, are never quiet, buying into absolutely everything, giving the face/heel dynamic their all, and trying to make this a compelling experience. AJ Styles is also working incredibly hard, whether that is out of loyalty to someone who he had worked so closely with in the past, or simply just the love of the game I don't know, but he works like Ric Flair here (ironically enough considering their ongoing partnership in TNA at the same time), using every smoke and mirrors trick, classic heel tactic and bits of movie magic he can think of to cover for the overwhelming reality that is his opponent. I have seen the odd Air Paris match from the aforementioned tag team he and AJ were a part of in the dying days of WCW. I didn't think much of him, but he was hardly what I would consider a bad opponent. There is no easy way to say this then, but the 9 years between then and 2010 must have been some of the roughest a human can endure, because he looks and wrestles like a completely different person. He's immobile, his offence looks hilariously weak, his selling is completely mute and he has the charisma of a loose brick. AJ , god bless him, takes the majority of the match and tries to work around him. This would have probably helped to turn this match into simply a bad match, had it not been for the genius idea to have these two go 22 MINUTES! That decision right there (one that should probably come with it's own prison sentence) makes this a horrifying watch, as the time leaves poor Air Paris with nowhere to hide, and exposes his skillset, or lack thereof, to everyone unfortunate enough to see it. He stumbles around the ring taking the most basic offence AJ can do without selling any of it. When it is finally time for him to get on offense, absolutely everything he does looks weak. AJ simply doesn't have enough bells and whistles to make this stretch for long enough, and the final 10 minutes are absolute agony to get through. The real kicker however, comes at the climax, as we get a horribly executed double ref angle, where Mike Posey and a local ref argue over who has the power over the match. This enables Air Paris to , no joke, get a visual pinfall over AJ. Why the TNA world champion would allow this I don't know, but I guess AJ has a kinder heart than me. I could maybe handle this if the natural conclusion, that being AJ beating Paris once the ref drama had come to an end, had been the intended conclusion. However what we get instead is a no contest, where some local heels rush to the ring to beat up Paris and leave the match without a winner. Why AJ couldn't just beat a man as hopeless as Paris is beyond me, and I wonder if this was what TNA management were watching when they decided to take the belt off of him not too long afterwards." |

Shawn should've stayed retired and Kane should've been doing his day job as mayor of Knoxville. The Taker vs. Cena "dream match" at Mania seven months prior was a squash because Vince thought Taker couldn't go, and yet, the blood money convinced him otherwise. It killed the twilight of Triple H's career through the torn pec. It robbed us of a Taker match at Mania 35. And it ruined what was a perfect send-off for the Heart Break Kid. Totally Cringe to see Darby take that needless bump on the glass and for Sting to take some of the bumps he did with his back. This was totally unnecessary and uncalled for. And lets not start on 70 year old Flair with his pacemaker there was no reason for Flair to get involved and take bumps. Flair's been wasted with his AEW run. This is something I would expect in a Death Match between two guys who hate each other and are locked in a bitter feud not a 60 year old man wrestling his final match. It did nothing. Not only did it stole the spotlight from the world title match (which should've been the main event), but in granting Sting a victory as a champion, it makes the Bucks look like buffoons. Also, babyfaces being 4 on 2 (or even 6 on 2 if we count Flair and Steamboat) are supposed to be cheered? When I'm introducing people to wrestling my first step is to show a great, relatively short match with big defined characters (most often Bayley vs Banks 1, sometimes Pac vs OC but the DQ ending kinda throws me off of that). Next, I go for a high work rate match. Something truly flippy and nuts, like an old Ospreay match before he got good. Finally, I show them Ishii vs Shibata from that one G1, 28 I think? A perfect sampling board of wrestling, stories, flips and stiffness. I also show them this match. Understanding requires disparity; life is nothing without death, light is blinding without shadow. To understand what makes a wrestling match good, it helps for an audience to understand how a wrestling match can be bad. This match is very, very bad. My favorite wrestling reviewers once described it as "stone gargoyles fighting bins", and that's not inaccurate. The lowest move rate, the softest strikes, the most confused psychology, the oldest competitors, this one has it all. If you are trying to get someone in your life into wrestling, do not, under any circumstances, show them Omega vs Okada. Show them the real masterpiece; show them Luke and Butch licking some sweaty freaks. Side note, I did actually show my beautiful lesbian girlfriend Omega vs Okada first and that worked out so. fuck my drag i guess." |

It's built around two major things, the betrayal of MJF throwing in the towel on Cody's behalf and the stipulation that he could never challenge for the belt again if he lost. The MJF turn was totally ridiculous and didn't work because he was such an established asshole this quickly into the run that the betrayal was obvious and just made Cody (in character) look like a massive dumbass. The second is that the stipulation not only robbed audiences of a more satisfying ending to the narrative (Cody getting another chance to see what he could do against the champion without someone calling it quits for him after he'd resolved his beef with MJF) but it was directly responsible for the downfall of Cody's AEW run so quickly into its tenure. He was so unbelievably over as a babyface here in a way he'd never again be in AEW and the lack of ability to take a full on main event run through this decision took away a lot of the investment in his character, and put him in a role of perpetual mid-card feuds where he inevitably beat talent that people wanted to see establish themselves. He maybe shouldn't have won (Moxley beating Jericho was a good decision, although Cody vs Mox would have been huge in early 2020) and likely would have always left the company, but the stink of unfulfilled babyface potential for Cody in Jacksonville exudes from this match. The action is fine and Cody and Jericho both played their roles well, meaning that this rating might seem harsh, but it is arguably the most detrimental and stupid series of booking decisions within a single match in AEW history." |

This match signified the end of Asuka's career of dominance in WWE, after losing at Wrestlemania to Charlotte Flair and snapping her winning streak, Asuka became a joke to watch and it wasn't doing her any favors when she became a glorified enhancement jobber to Carmella, who I already said was the WORST modern women's champion up to this point (and probably still is). He also ate a nasty power bomb through a chair before the strap was even retrieved, so yeah, they pretty much buried the stipulation in plunder. Highlight was Effy hurling chairs from ringside with stunning accuracy and Warner selling them like ECW-era Terry Funk. The finish with the power drill to the hair, ref bump, Allie Katch botching her one spot and Alec Price and Cole Raddick hanging out trying to look menacing like Jimbo & Dolph was every bit as lame as it sounds DUD" |

Had this been a month or two into the feud and they did it on Nitro then I could almost excuse it because you wouldnt be expecting the blow off yet and it would have worked well as a way to use a TV match as a way to set up a rematch on a show that you had to pay for. However, we were SEVEN months into the feud by this stage, waaaaaay past the point they should have been blowing the thing off, and doing such a terrible finish on a show that people had to pay money to see was straight up offensive" |

Also, Hogan having everyone knocked out and not trying to pin a single one of them made him look like an absolute idiot, along with making all of the WCW and Wolfpac guys look like ineffective goobers (but what else is new? ). You cant even say that it was because he hadnt officially entered yet either, because he was in there long enough for the end of Nashs section to end, so Hogan was technically a legal entrant when hed taken everyone out. DDP was a good choice for the winner as he was legitimately one of the top stars in the company at the time, but like with Konnan in the prior bout, one of the biggest wins of his WCW career ended up meaning very little due to how bad the match itself was. First, Bobby wins the title at the Royal Rumble to set up Brock winning the Rumble match itself and yet another Roman/Brock Mania event. Fine, you'd think. But then Vince decides he wants to unify the titles, which whilst a decent decision in isolation, doesn't mesh with Lashley having the belt. So they contrive this mess of a match to get the belt back on Brock's waist. Lashley doesn't even get to defend the title, being taken out because of a bullshit "concussion protocol" reason instead of the legitimate "he tweaked his shoulder against Brock a month ago" reason. But there are some times in which the finish of a match absolutely ruins what preceded it. If Cody won? I would've probably given it a 10. If Cody came up short and Roman won clean as a whistle? I probably would've given it a 10. That's how much I liked the first half hour of this match. I know Cody probably wanted to lose this match because he's so invested in the shine-heat-comeback-finish structure on a larger scale (and hopefully he does sticks the landing), but the interference spot from Solo feels, much like a night with Vince McMahon, like someone took a shit on your head when all you wanted was a romantic evening. Cody's biggest problem in this storyline is that by wanting to look like a hero tackling adversity, he ends up looking like a chump instead. It happened here, it happened in the Lesnar feud, it happened in the Rock feud. Not only that, but it led the way for a year of lazy booking of Roman, although Cornette is so fed-pilled at this point you can't use the soundbite. Because, after all, what has Roman done since then? He had the Bloodline Civil War, but that jumped the shark at SummerSlam. The man has been such an absentee champion that it makes Brock Lesnar look like a workhorse, and nearly all of those matches have ended in interference finishes courtesy of either Solo or Jimmy Uso. I've been going over the past decade of WWE PPVs recently, and there are certain times where I've given harsh ratings to matches I might've otherwise liked, if they represent the original sin of some terrible period. And, well this is one of the biggest ones, I'll be honest with you. This exposed Triple H to the point where it's obvious the emperor had no clothes, but yet, I still feel like the child in the story waiting to shout it out whilst everyone is glad-handing the king and telling him how much the Bloodline is "cinema". Well, if it's "cinema", it's as overrated and undercooked as Zack Snyder's Justice League, with the annoying fanbase to match. Haitch winning "booker of the year" in 2023 was the obvious consolation prize for him missing out for when he deserved it in 2022, because everything about the past year in nearly every feud has had the distinct feeling of a holding pattern. But a plane eventually runs out of fuel, and there's only enough in the wings left for most of these stories to go until WrestleMania XL. WWE now stands at a crossroads (or should that be Cross-Rhodes? ). If they're not careful, this could be their Starrcade 1997 moment. But I still have a naïve faith they'll pull through in the end to make it all worthwhile. But, you know, as much as we all love the Yes! Movement from a decade ago, that didn't retroactively make those last four months of 2013 worth anything at all." |

Truth stuff would be cool 10 years before this event aired but at this time he was just the 24/7 champ doing this? Erik Rowan Stuff was weird and the rey Mysterio getting replaced with the undertaker? awful everything. thee most pointless thing you'll ever seen that was only meant to hype up the Saudi crowd with the ending with the undertaker" |

A scary situation when I find myself feeling like a Angle match going 9-and-a-half minutes was a slog. Just never gets any tangible momentum at all, always feels like it's stuck in the second gear and time constantly feels like it's standing still here. Have to be incredibly stupid to think Angle in this condition should be working with 2006 Mark Henry in the *main event* of a Big 4 PPV. This being the PPV main event may just tip it over the edge of ludicrous. Genuinely more reliable match-making logic could be found on the WWE Games' Universe Modes. Angle then having to cheat to win might be the cherry on top. The brief glimpses of Angle being Angle here are what keep this match above the dreaded 0" |

The storyline doesn't have much sense, as Gilberti wants Shark's boy mask. Harris beats him and chokeslams him to take the win. After the match, they rip off the mask, but Shark Boy has another one under, so they didn't accomplish anything. It's so stupid." |

Even the wrestling was just okay at best with some leg work and okay selling from SHO. However, the overbooking was horrible and killed any interests in the match. That may be the reason why Mr. Meltzer even rated this minus 1 star. It proved how horrible the match was. The ending was the dumbest thing I have ever watched in wrestling. How a title change is done by count out? It just made the ref look stupid. I gave this 1 point because of some wrestling. The rest was pure garbage. How can we continue to suffer from bad House of Torture booking?" |
