I loved how Abe made his comebacks on Tanaka after being destroyed and the las minutes are so good. It's stiff with every strikes they did and Abe is able to bring a technical style that it isn't bothering when he does a submission in the middle of a slugfest. Abe's fighting spirit was awesome too. Superb showcase for Abe and Tanaka gave him equal share for a tightly fought battle. It gave the fans exactly the hope they wanted, even if everybody knew which way this match would end. I like the serious side of Abe and hope he can build on this! |

It's a real shame that the vast majority of people won't see it or even know about it given it's placement on the undercard of a BASARA show but you wouldn't know it from the effort these two exert. Fuminori Abe faces his most famous challenger yet and rises to the occasion, delivering an outstanding performance. Masato Tanaka proves that he's still capable of putting out spectacular matches even at the age of 45. The result is an excellent bout with a fast pace and great heat from the Korakuen crowd which tells the tale of a younger wrestler trying to withstand the onslaught of the elder veteran. This is a terrific match which deserves much more attention than it received. ****1/4 |
