930.04.2021pierreMinne8.0This type of match is so easy to watch, and with these two incredibly talented guy it was even more. Very good facework from the underdog Mike Bailey who has a lot of good returns, Ishikawa is very stiff in what he does and finally arrives to beat Bailey after Bailey pushed him a lot. Very effective contest. ****

2101.01.2019arrancar7.0A pretty typical 'big man vs small man' match, but a good one nonetheless. Bailey actually dominated at the start with his speed and sharp kicks, but Ishikawa quickly established himself with his size advantage. The match story ended up revolving around Ishikawa constantly destroying Bailey and Bailey constantly fighting back and getting hope spots. Bailey oversold his struggle a few times, but he mostly did a great job emphasising the immense power of Ishikawa's moves. There were a surprising number of awkward pauses alongside crowd silence, even in the latter half of the match in amongst the more dramatic sequences. This was usually the result of both wrestlers taking too long to move to the next spot/sequence, but damn, the crowd sitting on their hands when both men were down definitely didn't help with the awkwardness. Luckily this couldn't take away from the overall strong chemistry Bailey and Ishikawa had. ***1/2

2516.07.2018aguakun8.0The size difference here is striking, Bailey looks like a video game protagonist going up against the massive final boss. This ruled. Ishikawa was a total behemoth, and Bailey had to hit hard and fast to knock him down. ****1/4

3228.01.2018Mizzle Assault Ant10.0One of the best matches I have seen yet this year! A sort of weird dream match that nobody expected but really delivered, this was awesome. Shuji was especially good as the monster on top but Bailey did some awesome stuff as well!

3520.01.2018JT Grizzle9.0A wonderful story, well told, between two men who clearly knew what they wanted going into this and gave their all to deliver. I might even be under-rating the match because quite honestly I went in expecting it to be bad and had to be won over - I don't enjoy much of what Speedball offers up and I'm new to Ishikawa's efforts this year and have found him to be lacking in everything else I've seen, but this over-delivered for me and then some (*** 3/4).

3712.01.2018PUNQ7.0Shuji Ishikawa -vs- Mike Bailey - (D-Oh Grand Prix - Block B) [*** 1/2] Big vs Small. Power vs Speed. Ishikawa vs Bailey. And it worked so well. Bailey was full of energy striking as fast as he could before he would get caught, and Ishikawa used his weight and strength to squash the fly whenever he had the opportunity. A real cat and mouse battle with Bailey coming across like a real threat to the former Triple Crown Champion.
3810.01.2018Willie Jones7.0This was a really really, really really, really really good match. Every time i watch Speedball I enjoy his work so much, It's sucha damn shame he can't work in the states. He bounced around so well for Shuji. Even with Speedball's goofiness, this was still very believable. You should check this out. ***3/4.

4707.01.2018Maxwell Delite8.0This was very good David vs Goliath type of story. Ishikawa beat the shit out of Bailey, though Ishikawa could be more imaginative but solar plexus knees looked stiff. Shuji worked over Bailey's back first then worked over his back. Bailey's selling wasn't impressive for me but his comebacks and offense parts looked convincingly. ***3/4
4807.01.2018Dooby9.0Awesome match to start off an interesting tournament. I don't keep up much with DDT aside from a few guys, and Bailey and Shuji are some of those few. The former being an underrated indie talent from Canada who can't enter into America, so he's busy in other countries like Japan becoming more prominent in DDT of all places; the latter being one of the most underrated Japanese wrestlers the past 2 years, so of course this match would deliver. The crowd wasn't super hot, but they were alive enough for this decently small crowd anyways. The match was all about Bailey trying to outfight Shuji with his strikes, knees and aerial offence, but Shuji's size and power would be a great force to oppose him. Surprisingly great chemistry between these two guys, but that really shouldn't be too much of a surprise given both opponents, ****1/2.
4907.01.2018Glover9.0This is one of those matches that on paper tells you everything you need to know and you get exactly what you expect and it's fucking AWESOME. Speedball's tenacity, unique agility, and endless flurries of kicks takes on the utter dominance of the Violent Giant, the Big Dawg, Shuji Ishikawa. You have one of the best Davids in the business today against one of the best Goliaths. The fast and furious bits of offense from Bailey were great on their own, but the way they get cut off by Shuji, who proceeds to ragdoll and generally destroy him, is just so great to watch. Every reversal of Shuji's offense by Bailey felt monumental, and every reversal by Shuji cuts the momentum and pacing dead in its tracks. Each nearfall provides sympathy or builds potential doubt to the inevitability of Shuji's victory. An awesome, simple, perfectly-executed tournament match. ****1/4+

5106.01.2018NastyYaffa9.0Had to get the DDT Universe 1 month free trial just for this match, and it was exactly what I had hoped it would be - an amazing David vs. Goliath battle. Loved the opening w/ Speedball going for those lightning quick kicks right away, he stuns Shuji briefly with those, getting the early advantage. That doesn't last long as Shuji gets the control while Speedball was looking to do a dive on him to the outside. Then BIG SHUJI starts to just throw Speedball around like a baby. It's amazing. Speedball bumps & sells that amazingly. From then on it follows that formula of Shuji having the advantage due to his size, throwing him around, striking him down - but Speedball makes some TERRIFIC comebacks. One slight complaint is that I think by the end they went slightly overboard w/ the nearfalls - had they shaved off a few of those, this could've been an even better match. But yeah, it's just a minor complaint in an otherwise fantastic match. ****1/4
