[3.0] "Heyman is the best part of this match, and this is not an insult because I believe his oscar-winning performance deserves a better match. This match is pretty medicore, and it is solely because of Taker's performance here. It's rather boring and outright bad at times. The broken arm going into the match could have served as something interesting but he straight up forgets to sell it for most of the match. Lesnar sells his arm getting stepped on a couple of times than Taker does the whole match. He ultimately felt really predictable and it was ultimately the same old, in a bad way. Does not help that his gimmick during this time was awful. Lesnar on the other hand was ok in this match and this would have been a decent match if he had a better opponent to work with."

The near fall on the last ride was perfect and then Brock had an absolute freak of nature moment when he reversed the tombstone into a F-5. It had some good drama and physicality, but wasn't always moving at a entertaining pace"

The second half is better than the first, but this match was needlessly gory. Fucking Heyman screaming throughout all fucking twenty minutes of this shit just totally sucks. I have to give it some points because portions of it were intersting and there were a handful of decent spots with the cage, but just no thank you on this one."

Arguably a few minutes too long, especially for someone as limited as Brock, but Taker was at his best here which made up for it."

Anyway this was good, overrated but good. Lesnar was truly a beast and despite the moment in which Brock destroyed Undertaker's was great I have to admit that also the match round was almost awesome. ****"

[10.0] "A fantastic Hell in a Cell match. It might not be the escape the cage spot fest that the early cell matches are notorious for, but it was never needed in this match to make the match truly stand out. It was one of the most violent and bloody matches ever with Undertaker in particularly pouring out with it to almost uncomfortable levels. Lesnar truly does look like an unstoppable monster once the match is over and in my opinion was the match that cemented him as a major star. Heyman played his part in the match, bloodied up in a memorable spot despite being outside the cell the entire and laughing maniacally when Undertaker gets hit with the steps. He is fantastic. The in ring psychology is great with the Undertaker's broken hand and him using the cast as a weapon being a big part of the match. It is a total war from start to finish."

[10.0] "I can understand why fans who are more interested in spot-centric matches with elaborate moves would not find this appealing. But for my tastes? This is brilliant. This was a significant match at the time because it had essentially become obligatory that the participants would escape the cage in a HIAC. This was essentially a reset of the gimmick and the fans expectations to create something more in line with the actual purpose of the cell - to lock two hated rivals in with one another while they tear each other apart. This is a bloodbath. A war between two behemoths. Everybody bleeds buckets - they even find a way to split Paul Heyman open. Heyman is phenomenal during this match. I love when Lesnar cracks The Undertaker's head open with the steel steps, and a blood soaked Heyman starts cackling diabolically from the other side of the cage. There is a wonderful little bit (that the camera unfortunately nearly misses) where Brock and Heyman share a double high five through the fence, and Paul sells that it hurt his hands and has to shake off the pain - a really great stooge manager moment. I love all the elements of the story with The Undertaker's broken hand, and how the way it factors in to the match evolves throughout its duration - right down to Taker stomping on Brock's fingers as a small measure of payback late in the match. The finish is an excellent display of power and really makes the winner look like a monster. Even the post-match is a great visual, as the dominant WWE Champion stands tall atop the cage, holding his title triumphantly. It may not be for everybody, but it has withstood the test of time to remain one of my favourite WWE matches."

[7.0] "Not a fan of either, didn't like the story of the feud (except the Matt Hardy parts). Usually not into bloodbaths - this is an uphill battle but something draws me in. Godzilla vs King Kong ensues, soon Brock is scrambling for the exit, why? No matter, Lesnar begins to work on the broken hand of 'taker. Using the cast as a weapon, Undertaker takes back control. Lesnar's bleeding. Heyman's heaving "BrrRRooOOooCK! ". Michael Cole reminds us that "pinfalls count anywhere", noted. Undertaker maintains a solid control and comes off the ropes at some point with, uhm. some... kind of. thing. Paul Heyman is all reach grabby into the cage and Undertaker Big Boots him for a blade job. There's additional Heyman abuse*insert stuck pig joke here*, this gives Lesnar an opening though. Michael Cole reminds us "there are no rules", noted. In the midst of Brock's comeback, Heyman shouts out "YOU'RE GONNA DIE NOW! ", subtle! Lesnar and Heyman work together to hold Undertaker's wounded arm to the cage, Lesnar deals out mass punishment! During all of this the cast is removed. There is a spot on the turnbuckles I won't describe, but Undertaker makes up for his diving "WTFWT" by delivering a great half dead looking elbow drop at this point. Undertaker is walkin'round like Frankenstein's monster, he dives through the ropes anyway and it's a success; this is all to set up a monumental blade job. After a shot via Steel Steps (theoretically), Undertaker now resembles a Last Days Of Humanity album cover (Hymns of Indigestible Suppuration's back cover specifically). Naught but slow moving, high impact brutality commences, eventually The Undertaker Last Ride's Lesnar but the pin is broken up by *Brock Grabbing The Bottom Rope*: in a match where pins count anywhere and there are no rules. HOORAY! WWE LOGIC! This is all you need to know that Brock WILL hit the F-5 for the victory. Pretty great up until that rope grab. Cmon....don't book like that. 7"

Brock actually showed fear in this match for the first time in his career but eventually he would find his groove and beat down Taker, the visual of Taker being bloody messy after the steel steps shot was amazing. There's only 2 issues that I actually have with this match. Taker no selling of the arm when they went to the back and forth action in the ring, his initial selling was fantastic tho and a pinfall stopping because Brock grabbed the ropes in a cell match lol.****3/4"

[5.0] "I wish I connected with all these highly rated WWE hardcore-gimmick matches from the 00s era like the majority of people seem to. I just struggle to find these sorts of matches as at all different from each other aside from the weapons/props available, and I get bored very quickly of seeing generic, low-effort weapon attacks and messy brawling non-stop for 20+ minutes. That was basically all this was. Lesnar's selling was pretty good, and I initially liked how brutal he was as he beat Taker down and further targeted his kayfabe broken hand. I also liked how desperate and scrappy Taker briefly became in order to fight Lesnar off and preserve what was left of his hand and its cast. Sadly, the match still fell back into the messy-brawling and hardcore tropes. The shots to Taker's head with the steel steps was the one weapon/prop attack in the whole match was actually looked pretty nasty, with the steps seeming to fully connect with Taker's head to the point that I could genuinely believe it cut Taker's forehead and caused him to bleed buckets of blood as he did. I really liked the visual of Taker's face completely red with blood, but that also gave both guys more confidence that they could coast by trying to treat this as a "brutal war" when it was ultimately just a generic brawl. Taker's few aerial high spots were all pretty sloppy, and his eventual comeback was very stale. It was during his control segment towards the end of the match that I suddenly realised that he had been totally no-selling his arm for quite a long time, almost as if Lesnar removing the cast somehow strengthened the hand. Lesnar logically should have destroyed the hand even more viciously than before, since it then had even less protection, but instead neither he nor Taker referenced it again. Taker put in literally 0 effort to reminding the audience that his hand was in any way compromised, nor that he was in any extra pain as a result of Lesnar's work. Despite Taker's hand being built up SO MUCH on TV as both a big crutch for Taker due to the injury, as well as also a potential match-ending weapon for him because of the solid cast he could then wield, it felt incredibly stupid for him to totally no-sell and outright ignore his hand once his big rematch with Lesnar finally came, and Lesnar looked foolish for not going after the hand again despite Taker's dominance in the latter half. I wanted to still enjoy the 'spectacle' of the hardcore stuff here, but I couldn't get past how totally generic and devoid of any engaging psychology or story it was. I also have to mention how outright awful Heyman was, as he was CONSTANTLY screaming and wailing away in the most melodramtic and ear-piercing way possible. It was absolute go-away heat, especially when it came to his goofy facial expressions when on camera. He added nothing to the match and just infuriated me. **1/2"

[9.0] "This was a slow and bloody epic that was rife with psychology. Undertaker's hand is in a cast and that's a crucial part of this match. Lesnar wants to rip it off and do more damage. Undertaker dominates early on and wasn't that interesting when doing so, but Brock makes up for this by bumping into the cell like a madman. This is the first time in Brock's WWE run that he showed fear, as he backs off from 'Taker multiple times during the match. This was so chaotic that even Heyman got color! That visual of him being violently pulled by his tie into the cage wall will stick with me for some time as did Undertaker's horrific bladejob that had him pissing blood all over the place. I wish they didn't forget about Undertaker's hand injury during the last few minutes (he stops selling his hand after landing a barrage of punches on Brock), but that's only a minor gripe."

[9.0] "Predominantly recognized by fans worldwide as THE definitive HIAC bout, this bloody, brutal, violent fight definitely lived up to the hype it received. The bladejob was ugly and nasty in the most satisfying way possible. Brock was a superstar here, everything he did in this match screamed cold-blooded. Heyman was essentially awesome at ringside, providing whatever material this may have been missing. Bump, blade, facials, you name it. Taker's selling was a bit inconsistent at times, but that's just a minor nitpick really. Not the greatest Hell in a Cell match ever, but easily belonged in the top 5 at least in my opinion. Also, that final scene of Brock climbing to the top of the Cell was nothing short of spectacular. What a glorious shot. [****1/2]"

[10.0] "Simply fantastic. It? s almost certainly one of the best matches of the match type, let alone in company history. This was everything a Hell In A Cell Match should be. They didn? t escape the cell or go out of the match in some cheap way, similar to some modern versions of the match, in some vain attempt to recreate the Mankind match. No, this was a bloody slugfest with some great storytelling built around Taker? s legit injured wrist and his selling. This is Brock Lesnar? s coming out party. Obviously The Rock match showed that Brock was a great wrestler and could work but there is no doubt after this match that Brock is for real. He was immense in every regard. Whether it was his character work, the selling or his beat down of the Undertaker, Brock was great all around. The Undertaker stepped up in his own right. He gutted through an injury that would keep him out for a few months to put Brock Lesnar over when he hasn't always been willing to do so, which gave his selling more credibility. Brock really zoned in on the wrist, destroying it with a chair and over grievous methods, later causing Undertaker trouble when he did the chokeslam. The Undertaker bleeds heavily as well. It's gross but does wonders to show Taker in a rare state of vulnerability, alongside the injury. I have to give a shout out to Heyman and his great managerial performance. Most managers don't come across as coaches or support machines unless they interfere but Heyman goes the extra mile to scream advice to Brock Lesnar and puts himself in danger, getting cut for his efforts, in order to help Brock succeed. Classic bloody imagery, hateful brawling at an all time level climaxed with great drama filled nearfalls. This is just perfect. *****"

His cast, shot up with adrenaline by a backstage doctor, is an early weapon he uses to beat down the beast. Lesnar regains the momentum, and every second after Undertaker is busted open is gorgeous. Lesnar puts on the best performance of his career so far. and this is easily the best American Badass match ever. It was a little long and I wasn't hooked completely by the ending, but a great match on one of WWE's unsung PPVs. ****1/2."

It was extremely intense with both guys going through hell to try and beat the other. Heyman played a good role too and his presence actually made this match even better. Taker dominated Lesnar for quite some time, giving him a beating like he had never endured before, but in the end it was Lesnar who was able to outlast and eventually beat Taker with the F5. Some cool moments, the finish is good, solid match but not great at all. ***1/4"

Unlike most Hell in a Cell matches, the entire match stays IN the cell, and it is used thoroughly and effectively as a weapon. The physical intensity of this match is just incredible and there are so many brutal, unforgettable moments. Heyman is simply amazing at ringside, adding an almost horror-movie feel to the match with his desperate shrieks (not to mention, getting the hell beat out of him by The Undertaker). This match is absolute proof that you don't always need a blazing pace or workrate to have a great match--sometimes just plain old blood and violence can do the trick. And that's exactly what this match delivers, and exactly why it's one of my favorites of all-time."

This was the biggest beating Lesnar had endured up to this point in his career, giving it all back to the Undertaker and coming away with the victory really helped Lesnar cement himself as an unstoppable force in the WWE. Brock destroying Taker's hand and ripping away his cast looked great it was just a shame they didn't really take that angle any further during the match with the hand not playing a big role in the final outcome. ****1/4 for me joint with his Summerslam match against the Rock."

It would have been easy to have a simplistic brawl in the cell given the story, but they have a fight to the death with incredible selling and bloodshed. Taker breaking out TOPES and springboard elbows, and Brock going batshit on the hand with the chair was wonderful as hell. Taker's blade job is horrifying, and if not for Eddie, i don't think it could be topped. The man has an actual hole in his skull! The ending is amazing, and once again shows Brock isn't human as he not only counters the tombstone with ease, but he THROWS Taker over his head, catches him and then kills him with the F5. Just insane. The final image of a broken and bloody Taker looking up at Brock on top of the cell is one of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen. REAL passing of the torch moment. *****"

Ein Flug durch die Ringseile (Undertaker) ist in der Zelle z. B. eine ziemlich abgedrehte Sache. Dem Match fehlt ein wenig die Struktur und das letzte Extra, das es noch erinnerungswürdiger macht. The story they was telling was that of Undertaker's broken arm had been damaged so much that he didn't feel pain in it, certainly his poor selling of the injury and and Michael Cole telling us this on commentary let us know this. A good fight, not great. ***1/2"
