[1.0] "I can suspend my disbelief for a lot of things in wrestling, but eliminating someone by throwing them over the top a steel cage is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Through the door, while still a bit contrived, is more believable. But, the match has no focus. There are no spots because there is no wrestling in this match. Because there are no spots, the camera cuts intermittently to a different angle at random of brawling. Constant brawling. Half an hour of brawling, as a matter of fact. I get that NWA was gritty and realistic, but at some point you have to have an actual wrestling match in the main event of your wrestling show."

[6.0] "I thought the idea of a battle royal inside of a steel cage was interesting and has some potential if done correctly. The added difficulty to eliminate your opponent changes the concept of the match to one where (in theory) you really need to beat the hell out of your opponent to completely incapacitate them before you're able to take them over to the door and throw them out (or they climb the wall and essentially eliminate themselves). While not perfect and a little plodding at times, they did a fairly good job of executing that vision here. There was a lot of blood and some great visuals, like when Tully had Koloff at the cage door hanging upside down with a belt around his neck trying to choke him unconscious so he'd fall out. I actually thought they handled most of the eliminations pretty well, I could buy that people would end up falling out together as they battled around the door trying to take each other out. It was a bit odd when people kept climbing the cage (Tully made it work by acting like it was out of cowardice when people were beating him up, but it felt less natural with The Barbarian), but nothing that ruined the match for me. It wasn't brilliant or anything, but I thought there was some entertainment value to be had here, and I wouldn't mind seeing the stipulation attempted again in the modern era - I wouldn't be confident that it'd actually be good, but I'd at least be curious to see what people would come up with."

I think Luger should have won. Dusty was past his prime and needed to usher in the new blood. BUt damn, this was still fun to watch all these years later, even if it makes no sense."

Having to throw all the participants out of a cage sounds like a better idea than it is in practice, and it makes for some weird psychology in the real thing. That being said, this is a bloody, violent brawl between some of the best tough guys the NWA had to offer, and it's certainly a lot of fun to watch. It just suffers, especially when set up against the inaugural Royal Rumble, a similar and far more cleanly executed concept, and it's obvious why one stood the test of time."
