[10.0] "The best cinematic match ever in my opinion, this was everything it needed to be, Bray did show how special his gimmick was, ena could shine and make Bray shine in the same occasion, and the story was clear : Wyatt got robbed from his Wrestlemania moment years ago by a BAD booking decision against Cena, now he's gonna show the world what Cena is, every What If ? possible and show by his creativity that wrestling is also this. We miss you Bray, this was perfet and you'll neevr get the credit you deserve for this masterpiece"

[10.0] "This match deserves 5 stars even if there was never any wrestling to be seen. Wresting as we all know is an art form and art is expressed in many different ways and the way Bray Wyatt and John Cena express their art is something that is generational and something that were are all lucky to have witnessed with our own eyes in real time, even during one of the darkest times of recent memory. Thank you Bray."

[10.0] "Let's put aside all the "Is it a match or is it a promo? " semantics and "too cool for school" cynicism, and look at the funhouse for what it really is: The very thing we'd been asking WWE to do with John Cena for over a decade. Despite all the supernatural silliness, this match made John Cena feel more real, more HUMAN than he had for a very long time. Bray Wyat cruelly and systematically tore down all the walls and platitudes he'd built up, forciing him to confront his mistakes and failures, his lies and hypocrisies, everything fans had been yelling at John Cena and by extension WWE to realise about his character since 2007. "You're not a hero, John. You're a bully. You're a horrible person." Cena tries to makes his jokes and shrug it off like he always does, but he can't this time. Like Alex Delarge, he can't look away. The little details and nods are fun and all, but this is the beating heart of the match. Taking super cena. The walking talking t-shirt stand and making him flawed, vulnerable, and in the end... pitiable. This match needed to happen."

[6.0] "It's really hard to rate this, but it is really neat to see how the cinematic played out, but it's not the genius people think it is. Glad people have fond memories of this one, as for the rest of the pandemic era WWE struggled to be entertaining. A happy memory of a bad time, and a happy memory of the life tragically cut short."
felixshanewestern wrote on 21.09.2023:
"I won't give it a rating as there is pretty much no wrestling to be found here. Instead what we get is a journey through the career of John Cena, as Bray psychologically torments him with his past, and his previous mistakes. There were lots of callbacks to previous events in his career, and hints towards the history and system of the WWE as a whole. Maybe not everybody's cup of tea, but I certainly enjoyed it. Rest in peace to Bray Wyatt as well, who I imagine would have had a huge say in the creation of this match."

[9.0] "When I watched this live in 2020, I didn't have a great opinion of it. I rewatched it after Bray Wyatt's passing and I have a completely different opinion now. I get what they were going for after re-watching. This was so in depth and detailed. The insider references to John Cena being a Hulk Hogan copycat, and the "what could have been" of a John Cena heel turn references were great. The missing crowds gave Bray Wyatt the chance to showcase his creativity. The creative mind of Bray Wyatt is never going to be duplicated in wrestling. What holds me back from giving this masterpiece a 10 is that it's almost too much to digest on the first watch. I, and I think many others, didn't like this a whole lot on the first watch. You rarely have time/the desire to re-watch something in wrestling. So I feel it could have been given maybe a little more time to have more dialog to explain more what was happening. But hey it's still a masterpiece."

[10.0] "One of the greatest wrestling matches of all time even if there is no wrestling in it. But, how? . It is called avant-garde. avant-garde genre is in every entertainment or artistic thing in planet earth like in movies and great filmmakers like luis bunuel and maya deren innovated this. Bray Wyatt introduced avant-garde and cinematic creepiness to wrestling and this match is pure genius. Its a mind games match and bray wyatt is dominating cena throughtout the match by telepathing him through the different eras of pro wrestling and cena s most important moments and decisions that made his career and bray trying to mandela effecting this moments to failures (in the eyes of Cena). I understand if someone hates this match. But, watching was something new and more entertaining and even better than watching just a mild match between the two."

[9.0] "Watched this for the first time after Wyatt's passing. I wasn't into the product when this aired, but I know if I saw this I would have easily been dragged back in. Obviously , this isn't a match in the traditional sense, but as a segment and character study, this is one of the coolest things WWE has ever done. I'm shocked it was allowed to air. There's a lot of meta-knowledge required going into this, the indulgence here paid off. That opening shot of Cena coming out to an empty crowd alone should have tipped off the viewer that something special was about to happen, and the NWO segment representing the fabled Cena heel turn popped me. Represents something truly unique and special that will probably never happen again. I think it could've gone a little harder on deconstructing the Super-Cena era before pivoting to the heel turn but it's still an amazing segment."

[4.0] "Just watched this match for the first time, and I just don't see what others appear to see in it. It feels like some kind of cheesy video package rather than a match. If they wanted to make a cinematic match, I feel like they could have leaned much more into the "cinematic" aspect of the match with more film-like angles and lighting. I can, however, respect the attempt, and can at least appreciate WWE making a experimental(-ish) match and presenting it to such a wide audience, hopefully showing those watching that wrestling can be anything, even something as wacky as this."

Giving this match a 0 because "It's not wrestling" Is like giving a low rating to a deathmatch Just because it's a deathmatch or to a spotfest just because it's a spotfest. It's a cinematographic match, that is just another kind of wrestling like shoot or comedy or indy epopea and deserves more respect to having been what it should have been. Wyatt had to get his revenge from WM 31 and making this a nightmare for Cena and they got It. Surely a 2020 MOTYC. *****"

I know that a lot of effort was put into this and it took some extraordinary creativity which matches Wyatt, although it's hard for me to name this "a match". What Bray and John did is definitely the best thing I've seen in WWE.Although it's more like a match of Cena against his own sins, where John lost.. Lots of references to old moments from Cena's career. Great part about odds and being hit with a chair by Bray. This is a masterpiece segment that will forever remain in my memory."

[10.0] "Possibly the most experimental "match" in professional wrestling history, and I've seen a LOT of wacky shit in pro wrestling. It's like watching a match inside Cena's own mind. 100% pure storytelling with smoke, mirrors, and post-production out the ass to take advantage of the taped nature of the event. The way they really dig into John's career, the perception of it from an outside perspective, even his love life, was really surprising; Cena had to have agreed to all that and I can respect that since it added a lot. I can't give this a proper star rating, but I will give it a 10. This is brilliant, but it's also something that should exist on its own, because you're likely never going to have another subject you can tackle in this format as interesting as John Cena."

CoolKyle wrote on 01.08.2021:

From Wyatt referring to Cena as a bully, then showing him the Doctor of Thuganomics, to using his own words against him just moments before putting him to sleep, this hit a dozen different ways. Some of this may be studied and looked into over countless viewings for the long-term future. This was high-concept art and masterful sports entertainment. Should it be replicated? Hell, no. It was brilliant as is and too many attempts to do similar will only result in failure while simultaneously diminishing it."

AndoCommando wrote on 25.04.2021:
[9.0] "The most ambitious match I've ever seen, if you can even call it a match. A career retrospective on John Cena, showing his humble beginnings as a young man trying to get Vince's appreciation, to feeding himself into the corporate machine that is World Wrestling Entertainment in order to become the illustrious superstar we know him as today. Except this time, when faced with those trials and tribulations that defined his character again, he fails at every step of the road. Giving in to his temptations and unconscious anxieties before finally being consumed in the end. Great callbacks and easter eggs incorporated here for the hardcore fans to sink their teeth into. But what's more important isn't the references or "muh symbolism", it's what this match accomplished. For over a decade Cena has been built up as a Superman-like figure, beating everyone put in his way and standing tall time after time so that fans go away happy as Vince makes an easy profit. A wrestler who no longer appeared relatable to the average man or inspirational to fans now grown up. But this match changed the perception. Cena isn't a man who can do no wrong. He's a man who tried to do what is right for so long, only to succumb to the pressures of constantly maintaining that image when his past caught up to him. Wyatt may have won the match, but his methods managed to humanize the most polarizing man in WWE, and that might be some of the finest storytelling you'll see in this line of work. ****1/2"

This seemed to be made with the sole purpose of trying to provoke a shock value reaction through its randomness, not a piece of TV that puts forth a mission statement to that generate that reaction. If you're going to present something on Wrestlemania as less of a wrestling match and more like an art piece, then be prepared for it to be graded on the criteria that an art piece would - and this is pretty bottom of the barrel. 1 star, and it only got that many points as it seems to be bringing other people joy.

I didn't think it was smart, clever, deep, or entertaining. Instead, it came off like the work of a film student who had just seen his first David Lynch film, had his mind "blown", and now only makes and interprets films as if everything has an unreliable narrator, defending his work by saying, "You just didn't get it. " It's an uncreative person's idea of creativity, where "It was all in his head" and "He was his own worst enemy all along" can only be the work of genius. This "match" is probably going to flag a lot of negative reviewers as trolls but if we're going to rate it, it deserves a genuine '0'. It shouldn't be here."

But it's on here so I'll rate it and say that what it was is probably the best thing WWE has produced in years. The best storytelling since Daniel Bryan's "Monster" video, if not longer. Remarkable stuff. Ruthless Aggression. Doctor of Thuganomics. The SNME and Nitro bits. Macho Mercy. The Johnny Largemeat/Hulk Hogan reference with the 80s aesthetic, and then later on the references to Cena finally turning heel Hollywood Hogan-style. It was all just so much fun. Bray singing the Bella's theme. Actually Wyatt had quite a few good lines in this - a few with double meanings. I liked Bray shrugging off Cena's first rhyming put down, then acknowledging the Husky Harris line but still not really being affected and then taking the bait when Cena brought up chances and not taking them. Bray reverts to old school Cape Fear Bray Wyatt (the incarnation Cena faced at WM XXX) but then suddenly disappears and reappears as the Fiend, the incarnation Cena isn't so familiar with. There was a great little flashback sequence to all Cena's big moments (including the CM Punk kiss! ) and Wyatt giving Cena the chance to "put right" what he didn't do 6 years previous... which he does. And then we hear Cena talking about ending the most "overhyped WWE superstar in existence"... and you realise he's talking about himself. Fiend prevails. Whether or not Cena will actually be heel moving forward I don't know but it definitely feels like the ballsiest character development he's undergone in years. I'm keen to find out who was involved in putting this together."

This was an incredibly low brow attempt to build up some mysterious long-term rivalry between a past it Cena and an already stale Fiend/Wyatt. Nothing made sense, there was no logic and above all no fighting. I cannot fathom why anybody could consider a 2, let alone a 10. This was so poor that it is actually very difficult to review, a good piece of storytelling sticks in the mind, but I would challenge anybody to recall the beginning and middle of this supposedly perfect piece of wrestling storytelling. A thousand different people have a thousand different opinions on it, and every single one of those people feels incredibly strongly on it. But I think I have some rubrics to help you decide if this is the match for you. Did you love Avengers: Endgame? Do you collect pro wrestling Funko Pops? If so, you'll probably love this match! Is one of your favorite parts of pro wrestling gossiping about backstage drama, and talking about who's being buried and why? You'll love this! Do you primarily watch pro wrestling based out of somewhere outside of America (i. e. Japan, Mexico), where the point of watching pro wrestling is to buy into the fiction of it as a fight or a sporting contest? You'll probably hate this! Me? I hated it. This was embarrassing for me to watch. This was never a fight. And beyond all of that, I think there's a fundamental flaw in the storytelling of this match. Am I supposed to buy into the fiction of WWE? And if I am, aren't I supposed to think John Cena won his matches because he was the better wrestler? Or am I supposed to treat this whole thing as being about the real life people behind the characters? In that case, am I supposed to believe John Cena himself is spoiled and entitled? That Bray Wyatt's failed pushes are on him, not on WWE? Not on Vince McMahon? If that's the case, I'm super uncomfortable with WWE booking a match meant to shift blame for their booking onto their stars. Fundamentally, this story didn't make any sense to me. I am the type of person who just wants to buy into the fiction of pro wrestling, whether it's presented as self-serious sport, or totally unrealistic fights meant to be as funny as they are engaging. This felt like a match that did not want me to buy into its fiction. It wanted me to gossip with friends about how this is Bray Wyatt's revenge for being buried at WM30. It's probably perfect for the people still watching WWE, but not for me."

This match was not only hilarious and trippy as all hell, but spoke very well to these two mens' careers and their feud to this point. It didn't obey the laws of reality or even most of the laws of pro wrestling, and some people will hate it for that (morbidly interested in Cornette's thoughts on this), but it was consistent in disobeying these laws and was absurd and fever dream-like to the bitter end. And although it seemed chaotic and frantic, it was very intricately executed, with callbacks and easter eggs galore. I thought it told the story of the two growing into the performers/characters they are today in incredibly, possibly better than any match could have. The clash between Cena's heroism and desperation to win, finally succumbing to that desperation to try to put him away, only for Bray as Cena once knew him to disappear and for the Fiend to take over was honestly beautifully executed. Not a wrestling match, but one of the greatest pieces of programming the WWE main roster has put out in a long time and I can't wait to see what Bray has in store next."
