Michaels' showboating and blatant pandering may've been effective for the live crowd, but watching this 15 years later gives off a disconnect in the way faces as over as he could act. Vince McMahon's commentary was almost intolerable with how far this man went to shower Michaels with praise. Owen does make him pay for not taking the match as serious early on, working a long enough heat segment to put Shawn on the back foot until his comeback. I really liked Cornette's reactions on the outside and felt they lent the match some much-needed urgency, given both wrestlers play rather arrogant roles here. The latter isn't so much a criticism though; Shawn is rightfully beaten up for his charade and Owen wants to prove his superiority over the Royal Rumble winner; the same man he knocked unconscious on Raw weeks earlier. He even passes up on a count out victory, which naturally leads to his own comeuppance. Owen's too concerned over how to win instead of just winning, swinging at the head too many times before Sweet Chin Music connects. Lovely little gem in spite of its glaring faults. ***1/2

Auch die Story war spannend, da ja Owen Shawn zuvor laut Storyline in die Verletzungspause geschickt hat. Das Match ist auch der beste Beweis, welch guter Worker Owen Hart war. 9 Punkte!

2003.11.2013colonel7.0Sicherlich eine Traumpaarung, bei der in meinen Augen aber nur ein knapp über Durchschnitt liegendes Match heraus gekommen ist. Sehr schade, da beide deutlich mehr drauf haben und es diese Paarung in wirklich wichtigen Matches auch leider nur sehr selten gab. Insgesamt kam nur gegen Ende Tempo rein, was bei diesen beiden Ausnahmetechnikern einfach nicht verständlich ist. Wie gesagt, da hätte man viel mehr draus machen können bzw. müssen.

Really, the whole match was arrogant dick Shawn Michaels at his finest, and Owen was a fine foil for him. He also got plenty of offence of his own and showed just how good he was. If there's a flaw to this match it's that there was absolutely no doubt that Shawn would win and keep his title shot. It's still a fantastic match though.

Shawn does a sneak peek entrance of his historic introduction from Mania 12 and uses a rope to swing down from the top of the entrance way to the arena floor. Shawn shows up Owen in the beginning and acts like his cocky dickhead self. Shawn owns the opening minutes but Owen catches him with a belly to belly suplex off the ropes. Owen with a falling neck breaker and a 2 count. Owen knocks Shawn outside then tries a vertical suplex but Shawn brings him out, but Owen lands on his feet. Shawn tries running down the apron but Owen catches and powerslams him on the floor. Back inside Owen hits a dropkick an another close 2 count. Owen goes for the sharpshooter but after much struggling Shawn gets free. Owen enzuiguris Shawn in the back of the head and he spills outside and McMahon sells it like he's dead. Shawn almost gets counted out but Owen brings him in because he wants to win by clean pin. Shawn kicks out of course and begins the babyface superman comeback. Shawn finishes Owen with the superkick and the pin to retain his title shot. Easily the best match of the night.

Wrestlerisch war das super und die Beiden erzählen eine simple Face/Heel Story, wo ein Cornette als Manager auch viel beigetragen hat. Owen kann auch lange Zeit dominieren, Michaels kämpft sich aber durch und zeigt ein gutes Comeback. Das Finish war ebenfalls sehr einfach und konsequent, gefiel mir sehr gut(***3/4).

With that being said, once Owen hit his off-the-ropes belly-to-belly he was given a long heat segment to show off his wares. Taking nothing away from the Hall-of-Famer O Hart is and should be, at this point it's fair to say that SM was the superior athlete and talent and, for the most part, wasn't selling overstated, Mr. Perfect-style, circa '93. The match also had the built-in enzuguiri storyline as well as a clean, definitive ending. As of this date I find it much more difficult to offer the proper, precise fraction but this is between a 7 and 7. 5 lowered because of the glib Shawn sleaze.

Though he almost took a pretty bad fall on the way down (Owen Hart can relate). Anyways, Michaels immediately starts taking the fight to Owen with some exciting offense, however Owen eventually takes the fight to Shawn. Owen Hart is just such an awesome heel, and his heel work here was great as always. Shawn had an awesome underdog performance, in the end managing to overcome a methodical Owen Hart. Both guys looked very good here and it was an enjoyable match, but it never really got to the point of being a classic, which is a shame since both of them were capable of it. Either way, great match. ****

Firstly you get Shawn dicking around the first few minutes despite Owen being the guy who nearly ended his career, where is the intensity? Secondly the match starts at a real slow pace with rest holds that don't show any apparent struggle from Owen, and when it does get going they didn't do enough to warrant a higher rating.

Gefiel mir gut, was die Beiden zeigten, nämlich gewohnt viel Technik und mit dem von HBK aufs Spiel gesetzten WM Title Spot war auch Spannung geboten. Vor dem Match gabs schonmal einen kleinen Vorgeschmack von HBK in Sachen Einmarsch, auf das, was bei Wrestlemania kommen sollte! Der Showstopper hats einfach drauf!

6625.06.2019Makai Club 7.0Call me nit-picky but the commentary is very annoying. Vince? s love for Michals on commentary makes me sick. Not even JR praises Austin to the extent that Vince does. It was very distracting. Thankfully, Lawler is on game. My favourite part of the match was Jim Cornette inches away of kicking Michaels before the ref sees him and he stops just in time. The timing of it was great, as way Cornette? s reaction. A few things I liked about the match: I dug Michaels? sell of the enziguri, a call back to the angle. And Owen? s work on top is pretty solid though. Nothing outstanding but he gets heat on Michaels and builds to the eventual comeback well. There were a few spots that were poorly set up like the initial moonsault to Owen on the outside with Owen seeing Michaels whilst taking his time walking into the spot. The match really doesn? t have a ton of animosity that the feud and angle was built upon. Michaels says he wants revenge but it more that happy to dance and play with Owen instead of actually getting revenge. Just poor from him. From someone who is acclaimed for ? storytelling? basic things like this seem lost on him in this match. In saying that, Michaels had a fun comeback to end the match. ***1/2

Michaels carrying his demeanor in the initial stage made a slow start after Owen worked on him for a much brief period in a fantastic way. Then, the match really escalated to a new level with the comeuppance of Michaels and the crisp finish. Jim Cornette did his role right as a manager while the crowd was extremely vocal throughout. 4 out of 5 stars!

Ansonsten ein temporeiches Match, mit zwei krachenden Ghettoblastern, welche geschickt und doch in der Nachbetrachtung vertuschend in die Michaels-Syracuse Auseinandersetzung eingeflochten werden. In den Situationen, in denen es drauf ankommt, ist das Match jedoch durchaus gutwertig. Insgesamt ist die oberflächliche Freundlichkeit und das gekünstelte Getue des Shawn Michaels im damaligen Backstagekontext und im Vergleich zum später absolut überzeugenden HBK, mit seinen größtenteils genialen Darbietungen doch recht verfremdlich.

Einzig die Schlussphase konnte mich noch gerade so überzeugen. Warum Owen überwiegend mit Haltengriffen rummachte als mit seiner Technik aufzutrumpfen ist mir ein Rätsel. Schade drum.
