502.03.2023AG326.0This could easily have been a great match for me if the story was as compelling as they wanted it to be. The story was told well by both guys but the actual story itself wasn't one that hooked me as I couldn't get into Lucky Kid at all. Having him beat Thatcher, Ilja and WALTER felt like a lot and in this, he absorbs every damn big move and makes WALTER tap out with a pretty bad looking crossface. Still, the striking in this is great, WALTER puts on a good performance until the later half where it all kinda goes downhill but the crowd are hot for it and they were behind Lucky so it wasn't a bad decision to have him win - ***

Sehr starkes Finale (****).

1204.10.2019arrancar5.0An underwhelming final match for an underwhelming tournament. I had zero reason to care about this match, since Lucky had literally just relied on luck for the entirety of his run in the tournament, while Walter had beaten everyone he faced in very convincing fashion; so, on paper, Walter should have totally destroyed Lucky, and I knew if Lucky did win then he could only do so through ridiculous plot armour, which is exactly what happened, and I hated it. Lucky got a lot of offence in throughout the match (though nowhere near as much as Walter), but none of it looked convincing when directed against a monster like Walter. In fact, it was ridiculous seeing Walter forced to sell for all of Lucky's underwhelming attacks, especially in the weak manner he did so (which is something Walter has always struggled with). Walter at least looked good when he was in control, though his offence would lack a lot of power in the second half, and it always took me out of the match whenever he was forced to go back to putting Lucky's weak-looking attacks over. The match became ridiculous as Lucky somehow survived every big move Walter threw at him, and this wasn't just 1 or 2 of Walter's signature moves, but genuinely about 6 or 7 of them. This was the stupid plot armour I was afraid of. Seeing Lucky survive everything and then get a stereotypical fairy tale comeback for the win was super underwhelming and basically made a total joke out of both Walter and the 16 Carat Gold tournament itself. Seeing Lucky rely on plot armour and pure luck is fine for just one or two matches, with the semi-final being the latest that it's acceptable to do so, but seeing him rely on that in EVERY single match up to and including the final match was just moronic. I can only care about such 'lucky' wrestlers when they're up-and-comers or loveable losers, not when they're guys who get pushed to win major tournaments. **1/2

2229.03.2019NastyYaffa5.0This wasn't bad, but it didn't reach the heights it easily could've. Lucky Kid wasn't very interesting as the David to WALTER's usual Goliath work - wasn't really feeling his comebacks for whatever reason, and by the end, I thought he got a bit too much of the match to his name too, tbh. The ending with WALTER tapping out was a very good kind-of-payoff to his Carat journey that started on Day 1 vs. Starr though. **1/2

2919.03.2019Dragon Fighter8.0Weird match. Work was solid to good in the entire match but to me, it never felt like a MOTYC level. I felt like crowd wasn't 100% hot and invested into the match. Yeah, they were behind Lucky Kid and when he won, they popped but not like Ilja Dragunov situation. WALTER's top work was good as always and Lucky Kid brought the energy, desire to win the tournament. All made sense but no better than a **** match.
3019.03.2019Mizzle Assault Ant10.0What an incredible final match! Filled with smart call backs to the rest of the tournament, with Kid trying everything that has worked so far only for WALTER to absorb it and keep going with his seemingly bottomless supply of energy and drive, yet hanging on through the toughest punishment to survive to the end. I was on the edge of my seat and so was the crowd, this is a top 5 match of the year for me and a phenomenal end to the weekend.

3516.03.2019Dooby9.0An incredible finals match to top off a great weekend of wrestling. Lucky went hard at WALTER at the bell which led to some great brawling and offense by WALTER on the outside. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Lucky's gimmick, but when he needs to be serious he really goes for that win. His comebacks were great, and WALTER killing that momentum was good stuff too. No one saw Lucky coming as the winner of this years 16CG especially tapping out the Ring General of all people in the finals, ****1/2.
3616.03.2019darmody7.0Great ending to Carat. WALTER is just amazing and at this point I am convinced he cannot have a bad match, he made Lucky look like a star and deserving of the title. Even if the result is not my cup of tea I can appreciate a good underdog story and this one was very well executed - I am curious in which direction this result will send both men in the coming months.
