[8.0] "A good Takeover overall and a memorable one too. This marks the end of the Black & gold brand and it was one hell of a ride, no doubt about it. The Wednesday night wars forced NXT to take foolish decisions which eventually lead to its demise. Poor trips. KLR is now NXT bound but at what cost. Overall, the matches were good , a bit of unfavorable booking decisions such as Raquel retaining. Grimes winning was a great way to commence the show, Ilja's emotionally driven , hard fought and bloody callous victory is one to remember for the ages. The Walter/Ilja saga has been nothing short of phenomenal. Take a bow both of these men. Dakota/Raquel was good, Kyle/Cole left much to be desired and the main event was rather underwhelming. Joe looks out of shape but I was so happy to see him become 3x NXT champion. Overall, a 8.5 which is a 8."

The lack of a real crowd is missed for these shows, though I'm not sure this card in particular would have been able to fill an arena, or any card NXT could put on these days, sadly. Still, they managed early on to do great Takeover shows at Full Sail and if this is the future then they'll be fine."

The show? s profile was certainly raised significantly by the match between WALTER and Ilja which stole the show and is in contention for best matches this year. The show largely surrounding that was good although not quite at that level. No bad matches. Grimes/Knight had another good match in their series with a feel good moment. Dakota/Raquel was Raquel? s best defense to this point although I was ready for a title switch. Raquel and Kay Lee Ray should be interesting. Cole and Kyle had a good match that was not as long of a match as I expected and also one I don? t think was as good as their previous two matches in the series. Joe and Kross was Kross? s weakest match involving the championship during his second reign (both Balor matches, In Your House Main, and the Gargano defense were all stronger. ) That being said, the match was fine and it was the result that was expected."

[8.0] "Among the least interesting Takeover cards on paper, but it still managed to deliver thanks to one excellent match and a number of feel-good moments to pay off storylines. Dragunov/WALTER is worth going out of your way to see, an excellent brawl that is rare in North American wrestling. Grimes/Knight was a fun match that finally paid off a long-running storyline. O'Reilly/Cole had a good but not great match, with the right man going over even if it didn't go over well with the crowd. Joe vs Kross is one of the weakest main events in Takeover history, but it finally got the title off of one of the worst NXT champions of all time. Dakota Kai winning would have been the cherry on top, but maybe that would've been one too many title changes for a five match show. There are rumors that this was the end of an era for NXT, and the number of storylines being paid off did give this show the feeling of a season finale."

[7.0] "If this happens to be the last ever Takeover in this long-beloved NXT style, and everything seems to be indicating that it will be, then this was a great way to go out. No bad match on the card here, just wall to wall excellence as we've come to expect from the third brand. The opening match was a very enjoyable affair, LA Knight I find incredibly charismatic and Grimes is incredibly over with the NXT faithful so the match was a big hit. Even DiBiase played his role well, so a very nice opener and I should note, the Million Dollar Championship is awesome and i'm glad it gets brought back now and then. The women's title match was another solid bout but not much going for it bell to bell honestly, just a competent match. The important part is what happened after Gonzalez picked up the win, as former NXT UK champion Kay Lee Ray walked out onto the ramp to finish off this segment. Solid choice moving her up to the american NXT, one of the best of the UK scene and will be interesting to see how things play out. Next up the absolute best match on the card, and also probably WWE's best match of the year. Walter and Ilja laid into each other from start to finish, as expected from these two but exactly what we all wanted. Ilja picked up the expected but very win, looking absolutely battered by the end of it and hopefully he can do some fun things with the belt. Cole vs. O'Reilly was up next and definitely didn't quite live up to the level you expect from a Cole Takeover match, but still a fun encounter. O'Reilly picks up the first fall pretty quickly and I think it kept the match fresh rather than ending up three falls of classic-NXT kick out fests. A hardcore bout followed and Cole won with Kyle landing back first onto two chairs à la Cole and Black. Final fall was a good one, but it must be said the crowd didn't like the finish and really showed it with their chants. The NXT title match closed the show and it was enjoyable but it should be noted, a slower encounter here and Joe didn't move too fast for a lot of it. The crowd also made clear their feelings on Kross, the boos didn't feel like actual earned heat but more of disdain for Kross as a character, and there was some "Hardy" chants thrown in too. Joe finished the show off with the win which is a little odd considering the direction NXT is supposedly moving in (younger, non-indie-cred guys) but a solid choice as Joe will definitely put whoever beats him over strong. Overall, a very good show from NXT as we have come to expect, and if this is NXT's swansong in the style we've come to know and love, then it was a solid farewell. Match Ratings: Grimes vs. Knight - 6/10, Kai vs. Gonzalez - 6/10, Walter vs. Dragunov - 8/10, Cole vs. O'Reilly - 7/10, Joe vs. Kross - 6/10."

[7.0] "- Grimes vs Knight 7/10: I'm not the biggest fan of either but they had a good opener that was perfect with the story, Grimes had his big revenge and his struggle was worth it. - Gonzalez vs Kai 7/10: they did a good job at trying to sell Dakota as dangerous for Raquel but the problem is that the champion is too green and she's not good enough to sell being in danger. Despite that, Kai carried the match and her offense along with the selling made sure it was a good one. - Dragunov vs WALTER 9/10: this is all one really needs. Brutality, hard strikes, intensity, the hard hitting style is truly the best and those two are the top players in Europe when it comes to that. WWE is truly blessed to have Dragunov and WALTER and this could've been a perfect match for NJPW's NEVER Openweight Title. Hold on to this gem because they're rare in USA. - KOR vs Cole 6/10: not bad but 1) following WALTER and Dragunov was impossible 2) I've already seen their best in ROH and NJPW, and I feel like WWE failed to recreate their magic. They tried to have another KO vs Zayn former ROH style rivalry but it just didn't click for several reasons. Perhaps KO and Sami had theirs in a less shiny NXT and then were one of the few bright spots of the main roster when they did theirs? Could be, while Cole and Kyle are in a roster with Dragunov, WALTER, Dakota Kai, Io Shirai, Dunne, Balor till recently..... more difficult to shine with already seen crap this way. - Joe vs Kross 5/10: not terrible and Joe struggled a bit but yeah, far away from NXT's usual standard because Karrion Kross is not not NXT material. His facial expression never changes, his wrestling is boring and uninspired, and his booking is much worse than him. - PPV 7/10: the first 2 matches were very good, then we had an absolute banger and WWE's MOTY, after that the show was kinda done, they had to overdo Cole's NXT retirement and Kross' death and it kinda killed the vibe, show's pacing was all over the place cause the first 3 matches were where the interest, story and vibe was all about, and it was impossible to really follow them and not be hit. It's a good start, a gem and then the shit that piles up, almost a poetic description of NXT, started nicely, turned into a gem and slowly ruined."

While the future may well be big green guys, at least we got thrown a bone with Kay Lee Ray showing up. And what's more to say about Ilja and WALTER? Million Dollar Title Match and NXT Women's Title Match are good. I feel regretful to see Dakota losed, but it was a surprise that Kay Lee Ray came to challenge. United Kingdom Title Match is match of the night. Amazing match with a hot-blooded storyline. The match of Kyle&Adam is good, but I think the ending of the match is a little bit casual. It's not a persuasive way to end the match. That's the reason I give 9 points to the show instead of 10 points. NXT Title Match is better than my expectation. Joe is still agile and powerful.
