424.06.2023MorbidAxis5.0Like much of the 80s, this was very hit or miss. The only match that I truly enjoyed from start to finish was the main event.
526.03.2023DanTalksRasslin8.0Six months after the inaugural WrestleMania, AWA responded with their first supercard event, and just on paper AWA's show had the better card by a country mile. Promoted by AWA in conjunction with the NWA and featuring not only talent from both of those, but also from WCCW, EMLL and AJPW, the stars were certainly out for this one. We get a double main event with, first, the AWA belt being defended by Rick Martel against Stan Hansen; it ends up not being much of a match as they're both quickly counted out, but an entertaining brawl ensues that leads them through the crowd to one of Comiskey Park's dugouts. The second main event is a bit more substantial as Flair defends the NWA belt against Magnum TA in a great classic-style face vs. heel match. Magnum was on fire with the crowd as he comes "this close" to the belt he almost certainly would have won in the next couple of years if fate hadn't stepped in the way. We also get a very fun Road Warriors vs. Freebirds Tag Title match, a solid brawl in Slaughter vs. Zhukov, an interesting six-man tag with a young Curt Hennig and Scott Hall teaming with Greg Gagne against Larry Zbyszko and some of the old guard in Bockwinkel and Stevens, international showcases for Mil Mascaras against Buddy Roberts and the team of Baba, Tenryu and Tsuruta as they compete for a fictional Asian Six-Man Tag Title, solid bouts in Devine vs. Sherri and Kerry von Erich vs. Jimmy Garvin, and some other fun stuff. A really fun watch.
615.01.2023CMFunk0077.0This was a different kind of wrestling card. Super Clash could have been Wrestlemania if it had happened a year earlier. They had so many different organizations send guys. Kerry Von Erich from World Class Wrestling, Tenryu and his partners from All-Japan, MIl Mascaras from EMLL, Ric Flair and Magnum from the NWA, and more. This felt like a huge event, but nothing was blowaway great. Still, it was a good watch.
811.09.2019rykejamal7.0Star-packed event filled with a who's who from the 70s and 80s. A ton of matches were featured here, which obviously meant a long event that I had to watch over a number of installments. Not every match on here was athletic, but they definitely followed the trend of the 80s. The crowd was heavily into everything so that adds a few points. You're only as great as your audience makes you. The first two six-man tag matches, the women's match, Mascaras/Roberts and the AWA tag titles matche were the best of the bunch from the undercard. The NWA title was by far the match of the evening. Both men delivered to close of a solid attempt at a major supercard.
904.01.2017SpruseJohnson8.0A star packed card that produced good matches from start to finish. Why a mainly AWA promoted event would have the NWA WHC match as their headliner is weird but Flair/Magnum delivered.
