815.09.2019boymeetsworld8.0Second show of the day was much more fun, everything about this show felt better, just felt right... and crowd was not dead! Nakano vs. AZM was a fun all-action match. Tam Nakano struggled in her first two 5STAR GP appearances - she scored 2 points in 2017, 4 points in 2018 (she got her second win on the last day of the tournament, and even then, interference from Hana Kimura was the thing that made the difference), but in 2019, after losing her first match, she already won two matches, in a row! Her progress as a singles wrestler translates to this tournament - she's not a laughing stock or a pushover anymore. The way Kashima - Kimura played out made me excited for the rest of the tournament, because there were very quick wins via submission by Watanabe and Kimura, there were fast paced matches which had roll-up as a finish around five-minute mark, there were matches where the wrestler who's making a comeback hits 'out of nowhere' a bunch of moves/kicks + finish in succession for the win (for example - Nakano vs. AZM match), but roll-up sequences / attempts at the beginning of the match always stood out as a filler/sore thumb - up until this match, and it really changed the mood for every nearfall going forward for me, I have a lot more fun buying into EVERY nearfall, with expectation that every match can end at any moment. Every match between Oedo Tai members has a unique vibe, it comes across that they respect each other a lot... but desire to win by any means always prevails. Sumire vs. Iwatani was very entertaining because of Natsu's post-match promo, but I want to see Iwatani in a 'bigger' match. Konami - Utami was a good, slower-paced match. It feels like Konami's confidence increased immensely since she joined TCS. Jungle Kyona, for me, was the MVP of this show - never before have I seen a singles match with Bea Priestley in it that left me thinking 'this match was fun! ', but Kyona was a great babyface here, it was great to see her win.
912.09.2019TheRatemaker7.0This was way better than their afternoon show, the crowd was better, matches were all better and the dynamic of the show was better. Both tag matches in the undercard were really solid and action packed, AZM/Tam was as good as you can get for a 5 minutes match, Saki/Hana was awesome and really caught me off guard, Jamie/Natsuko was okay, Natsu/Mayu was cool and the post match promo was great, and the last two matches were very good.
