Overall, Super Showdown 2019 has to be one of the worst WWE pay-per-views in recent memory. |

Lo and Behold, its reputation is warranted. There's nothing in particular that any of the performers did to make this bad, (except taker and Goldberg for agreeing to do their match) and although the crowd quality was poor, I can't blame them because the match quality was right along with them. What does frustrate me is that a company like WWE would book this. Disaster after disaster on the wrestling front, and an even bigger disaster in a political sense. It would take a blind man to ignore the issues of hosting a show in Saudi Arabia, but the overlords in the back decided to go through with it anyway. Sad they still come back every year after this disaster. An easy 0/10. |

Are you telling me this is the best that all that Saudi Money could do? Shane's intro song has never been more fitting in one of his matches. There came the fucking money, and there went any effort in the match. Im going to spare this Fantastic Premium Live Event the 0 star award and give it 1 star, because there was 1 good match. HHH vs Orton. I kinda wish Dolphy Jit won the WWE title as well but oh well. |

None of the matches were above passable and at worst they were an utter disgrace to the business. The opener was decent but with hindsight, this was the beginning of an absolutely wretched feud between Seth and Corbin that spanned 3 PPV matches. The Intercontinental Title match was the definitive match of the night but that's not saying much. The crowd didn't care and it wasn't anything you couldn't see on Raw or SmackDown. Then we had a god awful Shane/Roman match that SHANE WON HAHAHA what a joke. Thank god Shane didn't win the world title that year, because around this time it felt like a real possibility. Lars VS the Lucha's was garbage as expected and shouldn't be on a PPV card. The DQ finish was laughable. Lars thankfully didn't do much after this wretched match. Orton and Hunter had an alright match that went way too long. Had it been 10 or so minutes shorter it would have been a lot better. Lashley and Strowman had an alright match, but nothing memorable, especially considering they had a much better last man standing match around a month later. Ziggler and Kofi had a decent match with a bad finish where Kofi needs Woods to cheat for him to win. The battle royal wasn't good but it wasn't supposed to be. It was just to give the crowd something to cheer, and it accomplished that. Main event was so awful that I don't want to talk about it. Horrid show. |

Niemand war zufrieden mit diesem First Time Ever (DUD). WWE Super ShowDown 2019, 4 Punkte. Es ist einfach einer der schwächsten WWE PPVs in der Geschichte. |

Bei Corbin/ Rollins gefiel mir wie die Attacke vom Raw davor mit ins Match einbezogen wurde. Shane gegen Roman war dann in Umsetzung und Ausgang auf dem Niveau eines schwächeren Smackdown Mainevents und das 3on1 Handicap Match war übel, speziell weil man mit dem Finish diese Fehde in die Länge zog, da man nichts weiteres für Lars geplant hatte außer der Vernichtung der LHP. Randy Orton gegen Triple H braucht niemand mehr 2019, dabei geht das ganze noch ganz gut los, bevor nach knappen 10 Minuten das Tempo mit einer Headlock-Arie nochmal gedrosselt wird, von da an ist das Match so langweilig wie ich befürchtet hatte. Strowman und Lashley und auch Kofi und Dolph zeigen durchschnittliche Matches, die in der Form auch auf einer Saudi-Arabien-Show Card enttäuschend sind, da in beiden Paarungen wesentlich bessere Matches stecken. Die Battle Royal ist entsprechend der Teilnehmerzahl lang und erst in der Schlussphase passiert irgendwas, zumindest die Schlussphase überzeugt. Undertaker und Goldberg endet katastrophal, da die letzten 3 Moves hintereinander übel verbotchted sind, davor ist das Ganze passabel. Insgesamt eine schwache Show, die noch ordentlich beginnt, aber vor allem bei den Altstars, also auch Orton und Triple H, entscheidend patzt, hinzu kommt eine im Verlauf der Show abnehmende Qualität, sodass ich mich für 2 statt 3 Punkte entschieden habe. |

I believe that a lot of people are completely biased against Saudi Arabia in general and will automatically give a low rating because of the whole Khashogggi scandal in late 2018. But putting politics that have NOTHING to do with WWE, and the main event aside, this show is decent. |

The WWE championship match was also meh. Kofi is just not world championship material. Battle Royal had nothing noteworthy except the winner. And the main event was..... disastrous(-*). The 2 points are just for the first 2 matches being just watchable. |

Eine vollgepackte Card, bei der die Matches kaum Zeit bekommen würden. Im Opener trafen Rollins und Corbin aufeinander. Das Match selbst war nichts besonderes. Corbin ist für mich noch nicht reif für den Spot auch wenn er einiges an Heat zieht. Von Balor und Andrade hatte man sich sicher einiges erhofft. Leider wurde die Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. Shane gegen RR war in Ordnung. Danach plättet Sullivan die LHP. Mit Orton/HHH folgte die gefühlte 1000te Auflage des Matches. Dazu erhielten die beiden noch die meiste Zeit. Für mich doch überraschend, durfte Orton gewinnen. Danach folgte mit Strowman & Lashley ein Big Man Match das okay war. Von Kingston & Ziggler hatte ich mir auch mehr erwartet. Wie etliche Jahre zuvor, zündete auch dieses Match bei mir nicht. Die Battle Royal war halt da. Nichts besonderes. Mit Mansoors Sieg gab man der Crowd auch einen Feel Good Moment. Der ME sorgte für Big Time Feeling. Und wenn man das Match 15 Jahre früher gebracht hätte, wäre vielleicht etwas denkwürdigegs entstanden. So endete das Match in einer katastrophalen Finish Sequenz, bei der man sehen konnte, dass manche Part Timer Matches einfach nicht funtionieren. Gott sei dank passierte nichts Schlimmes. |
| 80 | 19.07.2019 | Telecine | 4.0 | Ich gehe mittlerweile an diese großen Shows in Saudi-Arabien mit der selben Erwartungshaltung heran, die ich an eine House Show stellen würde. Man weiß mittlerweile, man wird kaum große Storyline-Entwicklungen und lange Fünf-Sterne-Matches sehen, sondern eher zehnminütige Matches, wie man sie eben auch bei einem Live Event sehen würde. Und auf diesem Niveau funktioniert Super Show Down auch ganz ordentlich. Es gibt vielleicht keine Knaller-Matches, aber mit Rollins gegen Corbin und Kingston gegen Ziggler auf jeden Fall zwei annehmbare Matches; Finn Balor gegen Andrade ist auch auf einem befriedigenden Niveau. Randy Orton gegen Triple H ist auf jeden Fall besser als Batista gegen Triple H von WrestleMania. Die Battle Royal nutzt man wenigstens, um einen Home Town Hero gewinnen zu lassen, was für die Fans vor Ort offensichtlich viel bedeutet. Der einzige richtige Ausfall ist der Main Event zwischen Goldberg und Undertaker, was man auch vorher so erwarten konnte. Ich hatte gehofft, dass die beiden in die Jahre gekommenen Stars einen Weg finden, wie sie mit ihren Signature Moves wenigstens für etwas unter zehn Minuten so tun können, als seien sie noch in Topform. Doch leider zeigt sich spätestens bei dem zum Brainbuster verunglückten Jackhammer von Goldberg (bei dem ich Undertaker auch eine Teilschuld gebe, weil dieser offenbar keinerlei Core Strength mehr hat), dass diese beiden einfach die beste Zeit lange hinter sich haben. Dass sie danach überhaupt noch probieren, Goldbergs Tombstone in einen Tombstone des Undertakers zu kontern (was Undertaker nebenbei vor ein paar Jahren gegen Reigns bei WrestleMania auch schon nicht mehr hingekriegt hat), dann fällt mir dazu nichts mehr ein. Ein viel zu ambitionierter Spot für zwei Wrestler, die (mittlerweile) dermaßen limitiert sind. Zu guter letzt verunglückt der Chokeslam dann auch noch, der das Match zu seinem Behelfs-Finish führt. Ein schlechter Main Event, eine überlange Show - wiegesagt auf House-Show-Niveau. |

Der Rest ist entweder auf TV Level gebookt - Reigns & Sullivan - oder eben schrecklich mit anzusehen. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass 50 Leute in eine Battle Royal passen. Jetzt hätte ich gehofft es wäre wirklich nicht möglich. Der Undertaker schleppt sich mühsam über die Runden und das ist schockierend. Dass Triple H & Randy Orton im Jahre 2019 knappe 25 Minuten gehen wirkt da nur als kleiner Beigeschmack. Ich weiß echt nicht wo ich diesen Punkt überhaupt herkriege. (0. 65/10) |

Dabei kommt die Veranstaltung noch ganz akzepzabel aus den Hufen, denn die ersten drei Matches sind zwar nicht toll, aber immerhin noch okay, wobei Balor und Almas hier noch am unterhaltsamsten performen. Sullivan und die Luchadores sind ziemlicher Käse und auch Lashley gegen Strowman kann man getrost vergessen. Dazwischen quälen sich und uns die Herren Levesque und Orton durch eine zähe, höhepunktarme und viel zu lange Partie. Ziggler und Kingston fahren ihre Story hier schon an die Wand, während auch das Match seltsam und nur mit wenig Fluss verläuft. Natürlich muss für die Hohen Herren der Arabischen Halbinsel noch eine pickepackevolle Battle Royal reingeschoben werden, welche komplett unstrukturiert durch die untere Midcard langweilt. Und dann folgt der Mainer, welcher eindrucksvoll belegt, dass man ab einem gewissen Alter Hype einfach Hype bleiben lassen sollte, denn mit etwas Pech geht hier einer drauf. Der Bust in der Ringecke beendet den Traum von einem akzeptablen Match jäh, und alles was danach kommt, ist unnötiges Hochrisiko-Gestümper. Sowas muss man eigentlich vorher abbrechen. Money makes the world go round und manchmal auch Events, die keiner braucht. |

Bálor vs. Andrade ist da v. a. technisch schon deutlich anspruchvoller (7/10). Der Sieg von McMahon über Reigns überrascht schon sehr, wenn auch mit tatkräftiger Unterstützung von außen. Das Match selbst kann man sich auch (trotz einiger sehr langer Griffsequenzen) durchaus noch ansehen (5/10). Handicap-Match hätte man kürzer halten müssen ? vollkommen überflüssig, und das DQ-Finish ist der größte Witz an der Sache (0/10). Der Klassiker zwischen HHH und Orton beginnt mit dem entsprechend langwierigen Aufbau; man versucht es episch, aber spätestens bei den ewigen Headlocks wird es doch etwas ermüdend, und man schafft es auch nicht wirklich, im weiteren Verlauf die nötige Dynamik aufzunehmen und echte Dramatik zu erzeugen (6/10). Strowman vs. Lashley ist ein traditionelles langweiliges Powerhouse-Match (3/10). Das Potenzial von Kingston und Ziggler wird überhaupt nicht genutzt (6/10). Das Hauptproblem der Battle Royal liegt auf der Hand: viel zu viele Teilnehmer! Man erkennt nicht, wer eliminiert wird, man erkennt nicht, wer eliminiert, alles in allem ist sowieso kein Platz im Ring für ordentliche Spots. Ab Mitte des Matches, wenn sich die Reihen etwas gelichtet haben, entwickelt sich dann eine normale Battle Royal mit ein paar netten Spots, aber das betrifft eben nur die Hälfte des Matches. Mansoor als Sieger macht in gewisser Weise Sinn, aber dann hätte man ihn in dieser Battle Royal wenigstens einmal in Szene setzen müssen und nicht erst beim finalen 1-on-1 mit Elias (3/10). Undertaker vs. Goldberg kommt erwartungsgemäß ca. 15 Jahre zu spät, deswegen lohnt es nicht, auf die beiden Legenden noch einzudreschen, sie können ja nichts dafür, dass dieser Unsinn gebookt wurde. Wenigstens der atmosphärische Entrance des Takers und die Ringpräsenz der Kontrahenten wissen zu überzeugen (4/10). Gesamt: 4, 33. |

| 96 | 14.06.2019 | DanTalksRasslin | 2.0 | Setting aside the (very gross) politics of the thing and viewing it objectively as a wrestling event, this was not a good show, but not without a handful of positives, and it certainly was not as bad as Crown Jewel. Notably, Balor vs. Andrade was quite good, Rollins vs. Corbin was a surprisingly decent opener, and Kingston vs. Ziggler and Strowman vs. Lashley were OK if unremarkable. However, there were also a lot of negatives - HHH vs. Orton, while not a bad match, had no business going nearly a half-hour in 2019; the battle royal was largely just a "going through the motions" affair with the winner - despite getting the "hometown" pop for winning - still coming off as a bit random due to Mansoor not being a well-established character (and his win here will almost certainly be forgotten); no one wants to see Shane McMahon getting these kinds of big wins and possibly moving into title contention, and Sullivan vs. Lucha House Party was a waste of the latter. And then there's the main event, which was a bad idea from the ground up - Goldberg even in his prime could rarely pull off matches going close to the nine-minute mark, let alone nearly two decades later, and while Taker is one of my all-time favorites, he absolutely needs to hang it up as he's at the point of tarnishing his own legacy if he keeps sticking around for matches like this. |
