Its silly and a bit too long but its not poorly worked considering who's in it (5/10) X-Pac vs Jarret is a really fun undercard match all the action moves fast with a lot of counters a good Hell tactics by double J as always (8/10) Mixed tag match is ver good when Mero and Edge are in the ring but it gets a bit sloppier when Sable is in the ring. Could've done without the spanking spot too (5/10) Shamrock and Owen have a great cage match with some unique twists do to using an UCF type cage, great continuation from their dungeon match (8/10) Outlaws/Mankind is very short and very brawly but Foley plays a perfect underdog and its better than a lot of other Outlaws tag title bouts from this year (5/10) Triple H/Rock is a really entertaining and violent ladder match that was a star making performance for both but specially Triple H. Love his selling and the intensity in the whole match. My favorite from the card (9/10) Austin/Taker was a really good main event with some of the typical tropes. Hot start with Austin and brawling around the arena, but it also had some story beats with Taker sending Kane to the back and actually some more technical stuff from Austin in parts kinda like he did before the neck injury. Very fun closer (8/10) and of course you had a hot crowd for everything wich really helps the enjoyment |

The opener was fine and would be much fondlier remembered by me if not for the rotten finish with the referee deciding that only one guy can use the vest. Handicap Match was the worst thing I've seen this year, while Jarrett and X-Pac had a pretty enjoyable little match. Mixed Tag was bad - Mero was potrayed like a joke, Sable wasn't underdog anymore so her stuff didn't work, and Edge looked incredibly bland compared to his future self. Shamrock vs Owen made me wish that they had a match in the ring although it wasn't awful, and then Outlaws vs Mankind was a mess. They had something with the crowd starting to chant for Foley, but they ruined it by going full ECW and making it a pointless garbage match. Then Rock and Hunter once again put on the best bout of the night with their fantastic Ladder Match that I would put on par with the first Michaels vs Ramon. And main event was another solid Steve Austin match with him going back to his roots and keeping it more in the ring, although obviously they brawled around the arena for some time. Impressive Leg Drop from The Undertaker and a fine finish to keep both guys looking strong. I like that they've been keeping the best stuff for last in the past few PPVs, but I would do without so much of Russo's bullshit in the middle. |

And that's saying something considering how bad the ladder match gimmick often is with the slow climbing up the ladder. That match was a real career builder. The main event isn't the most spectacular in-ring product, but it still remains entertaining, and the WWF built it up so damn well. Gotta admit it was satisfying seeing so many come out of the back to assist in shaving JJ's head. |

Das Handicap Tag Match ist ein extrem aufgeblasener Squash, worauf mit X-Pac vs. Double J ein ordentliches Match, bevor das Mixed Tag Match mit einem debütierenden Edge weiterhin gute Reaktionen zieht, obwohl es qualitativ überschaubar war, was durchaus stellvertretend für die gesamte Show steht, da das Wrestling nicht immer überzeugend ist, aber viel durch die großartigen Publikumsreaktionen positiver erscheint. Das Lion's den Match ist bis heute vieldiskutiert, unterhaltsam war es in der relativ kurzen Zeit allemal. Das Handicap Tag Match war als Match natürlich nichts, als Segment betrachtet brachte es die Charaktere der Beteiligten immerhin weiter. Darauf folgt das Match des Abends: Triple H und The Rock haben hier jeweils ein Career Match und setzen Maßstäbe für die Gestaltung von Leiter-Matches, natürlich nicht was Highflying Aktionen angeht, sondern eher was Aktionen mit der Leiter angeht. Der Main Event hat es anschließend schwer Schritt zu halten und wirkt daher auch schwächer als es war, das Tempo ging in dieser Paarung phasenweise ab, rein von der Struktur her war das Ganze aber klasse gemacht.. Insgesamt wechseln sich bei der Show lange Licht und Schatten ab, bevor die letzten beiden Matches überzeugen, insbesondere das Leitermatch sticht heraus, sodass eine solide Show dabei rauskommt, für eine höhere Bewertung ist mir der Beginn zu inkonstant. |

This show is Madison Square Garden and Attitude Era at his best. New York was going nuts since the beginning, and the Show delivered was amazing. I personally don't like Attitude Era for the "too much" Soap Opera like product, and in this show there are some remnants about that, but the Main Events are fantastic. The Ladder match between Rock and HHH for the IC Title is not comparable with the one that Razon and Shawn had in the Garden 4 years prior but it's still pretty damn good, not so "high Spot" material, but full of intense and phisical moments and really full of suspance in the final moments of the match. I think this is the match that really was the beginning of Triple H ascending to the Top of the WWE and quite possibly the best Rock-HHH match (better than their Iron Man Match of Judgment Day 2000). The Main Event is awesome. It is not perfect as a Workrate but at that time the Business was not about that. The atmosphere, the anticipation around the match and the match itself was incredible, a full brawl between the two top names in the company, quite possibly ever. The Undertaker, the phenom, the coscience of the WWE and Austin the ground breaking ascending star that will become the most popular WWE Superstar ever. Intense Brawl, some incredible Taker Stuff (it's nostalgic see this matches and the condition in which he was in at that time) like the unreal Leg Drop from the top rope on Austin into the Announce Table that we have seen plenty of times in every Taker Tribute Video. I am an huge Undertaker Fan and I think 1998 has been one of his best Years ever. I don't consider this match one of his best, but I think it is pretty cool, Austin beating (dirty) The Deadman as final consecration for the RattleSnake as a Icon of the Attitude Era. |

Beide Männer zeigen hier, dass sie durchaus was drauf haben und besonders D-Lo kann seine Beweglichkeit als Big Man unter Beweis stellen. Das Four on three Handicap Match danach war eines der schwächeren Matches, ohne aber schlecht zu sein. Das Hair vs Hair Match war solide und das Mixed Tag Team Match war das schwächste Match für mich, obwohl Mero und Edge ganz anständige Sequenzen hatten. Dann kam jedoch die stärkere zweite Hälfte und die begann mit Shamrock gegen Hart im Lions Den Match und das war ein nicht übermäßig langes oder spektakuläres aber unterhalsames MMA-Style Match. Das World Tag Team Title Match war dann halt eher ein Storymatch, als solches hat es aber funktioniert und auch die Leute mitgenommen. Das IC Title Match war dann das MOTN. Natürlich standen hier die Dynamik im Vordergrund und das ganze wurde auch viel durch die Zuschauerdynamik getragen aber mir gefiel auch das Bodypartwork von The Rock gegen Triple H und wie dieser sich aber wieder in heelischer Manier seinen Weg zum Ziel erwieselte. Das ME fand ich dann zwar etwas schwächer aber dennoch unterhaltsam. Dieses Match lebte halt vor Allem von den großen Charakteren und den großen Moves. Insgesamt muss man sagen, dass nach eher solider ersten Hälfte dieses Event in der zweiten Hälfte wirklich mehr als anständig wurde und daher in meinen Augen 7 Punkte verdient. |

Die beiden Negativscharten des Abends in Form des Handicap-Matches und des Oddities/Kaientai-Fiaskos werden mit den beiden Abschlussmatches ausgewetzt - das Ladder-Match erreicht zwar nicht WMX-Niveau, aber ist dennoch mehr als ansehnlich, spannend und im Vergleich zum Main-Event auch das bessere Match - der Mainer selbst zieht die Crowd stimmungsvoll in seinen Bann, kann aber aufgrund einiger Unsauberkeiten und der doch kaum zu erklärenden mangelhaften Chemie zwischen Taker und Austin nicht vollends überzeugen. Dieses Match hat jedoch wie die gesamte Veranstaltung überschlagen gehobenen Durchschnitt. |

Leider wird das Ganze durch ein wirklich bescheidenes DQ-Finish ziemlich runtergezogen. Schade! Das folgende Handicap-Match ist übelster Klamauk von der Sorte, die ich gar nicht leiden kann. Lowlight des Abends! Das Hair vs Hair Match ist dann wieder deutlich stärker und sowohl Double J als auch X-Pac können ihre Signatures zeigen. Aufgrund der Stipulation ist natürlich ordentlich Brisanz in dem Match und die Crowd bekommt hier ihren ersten emotionalen Höhepunkt des Abends. Das Mix Tag Team ist dann wie zu erwarten eher schwach und dient eigentlich nur zur Fleischbeschau bei Sable. Shamrock vs Owen im Lion's Den Match ist dann wieder ein gutes Match bei dem auch immer wieder der Käfig genutzt wird. Ausserdem ist es schon deshalb sehenswert, da es eine ziemlich einzigartige Stipulation bei der WWE war. Mankind vs New Age Outlaws bietet dann einige Hardcore-Spots und drei wirklich overe Kontrahenten. Nicht großartig, aber dennoch unterhaltsam. MotN ist dann ganz klar für mich das Leiter-Match zwischen Rocky und Hunter. Ich habe den beiden bei dieser Stipulation nicht viel zugetraut, aber sie haben mich eines besseren belehrt. Kein klassisches Spotfest, aber dafür hatte das ganze einen roten Faden und war auch noch sehr spannend. Das die Crowd Triple H gegen The Rocj so feiert hätte ich nicht gedacht. Steve Austin und der Taker liefern danach einen soliden Main Event-Brawl ohne großartige Extras. Einzig der Sprung vom Taker durch das Kommentatorenpult bleibt wirklich in Erinnerung. Kann man sich dennoch gut anschauen. Insgesamt eine überdurchschnittliche Show mit nur zwei schlechten Matches, die aber gleichzeitig auch mit die kürzesten sind. |

Das Lion´s Den-Match fand ich eher enttäuschend, da hatte ich mir schon mehr erwartet. Man weiß doch schließlich wozu Shamrock & Owen in der Lage sind. Die restlichen Matches waren dagegen so lala. Das Match der Oddities war eh befreiende Komik, doch hier gab es tatsächlich auch sehenswerte Aktionen zu bestaunen. Alles in allem ein gelungener Summerslam. |

Gutes Opening Match und dann direkt ein Match zum Vergessen hinterher. Jarrett gegen X-Pac war gut, das Mixed Match weniger. Shamrock gegen Owen Hart fand ich cool. Mankind vs. NAO war nicht so zwingend. Triple H vs. The Rock hat mich nicht so umgehauen, was auch für den Main Event gilt, den ich jedoch besser fand. Bei den letzten beiden Matches ist aber das Publikum am Ende jeweils toll mitgegangen. |

Of the rest of the card, the X-Pac-Jarrett hair match was also decent, and Edge/Sable vs. Mero/Jacqueline was memorable and was an early boost to Edge's career to be victorious alongside the company's most popular female wrestler of the time in his PPV debut. D'Lo-Venis and Outlaws-Mankind were fine, though were both booked in such a way that you'd expect on Raw rather than PPV, and the Oddities-Kaientai match was pretty terrible. Overall, a good representation of the Attitude Era's height. Incidentally: my first-ever live wrestling event was the Albany stop on the "Highway to Hell" house show tour leading into this event (8/22/98). |

Trotzdem fand ich es falsch beide in eine Fehde gegeneinander zu stecken, da sie in letzter Zeit zu viel Momentum verloren haben. (3 1/4*) 6. Das TTTM fiel dann etwas zu kurz aus. (1 3/4*) 7. Das IC Championship Match ist das MotN. Kommt aber nicht an andere Klassiker dieser Matchart ran. Trotzdem liefern die beiden ein gutes Match ab. (3 3/4*) 8. ME ist in Ordnung. Die Matches zw. Austin und dem Taker konnten mich nie so recht begeistern. Trotzdem eine ordentliche Vorstellung der beiden. (3 1/4*) |

Naja das Match war trotzdem richtig geil. Aber mit Foley in einem Hardcore Match kann man nichts falsch machen, er hat auch einige Aktrionen genommen wie zb. den Slam auf beide Stühle wo ich auch nur OUCH! dachte. Mega Starkes Ladder Match zwichen HHH und The Rock! Austin vs Undertaker:Guter Main Event mit schönem Spot durch den Tisch. Alles in allem mit dem Summerslam 2002 und 2014 der beste Summerslam ohne große Letdowns.... Bei dem 4-3 Handicap Match hat man das erwartet.... |

| 91 | 12.04.2014 | cradlerocker | 7.0 | Sehenswerte Veranstaltung insgesamt betrachtet, die vorallem dadurch auffällt konstant ordentliches bis gutes Niveau zu haben, wenn man mal das unsägliche Handicap-Match weglässt. Der Opener, das Hair vs Hair Match und Owen vs Shamrock überzeugen in der Undercard, wobei das eigentliche Highlight WWF-typisch am Ende kommt. Das Leitermatch würde ich zwar nicht so hoch bewerten, wie Meltzer, aber dennoch ist es empfehlenswert. Der Main Event kommt an den IC-Kampf nicht ganz ran, lebt aber von einer guten Crowd und der Spannung sowie dem Hype der damals um die Paarung Undertaker vs Austin bestand. Daher insgesamt 7 Punkte. |

Das Four on Three Handicap-Match ist eine absolute Katastrophe, bei dem die durchaus talentierten Kai En Tai der Lächerlichkeit preisgegeben werden (DUD). Das Hair vs. Hair-Match ist hingegen wieder eine starke Angelegenheit, mit vielen Nearfalls und einem tollen Matchverlauf (***3/4). Das Tag Team-Match ist auch eine Überraschung, da alle Beteiligten sehr motiviert erscheinen und ein ansehnliches Match auf die Beine stellen (***). Das Lions Den-Match ist auch eine sehr schmackhafte Angelegenheit, da es einfach eine schöne Abwechslung zum In Ring-Geschehen ist (***1/2). Danach kommt ein schlechtes Match, zwischen Foley und den Outlaws. Dieses "Match" besteht eigentlich nur daraus, dass Foley einen Bump nach dem anderen nimmt und mächtig verprügelt wird (*1/2). Das Ladder-Match ist ganz klar das MOTN, da die beiden alles geben und ein innovatives und abwechslungsreiches Match abliefern, dass seiner Zeit voraus war (****1/2). Der Main Event enttäuscht mich dann ein wenig, da die beiden hier überraschend viele Upfucks haben und der Matchverlauf teilweise sehr zäh ist. Nichtsdestotrotz sorgt vorallem der Undertaker hier trotzdem für ein (mindestens) solides Match, dass aber Luft nach oben hat (***1/4). |

X-Pac vs. Jarrett (6/10), Intergender-Tag-Team-Match gehört sicher zu den besseren seiner Art, Edges PPV-Debüt ist aber hier wahrscheinlich das erinnerungswürdigste (6/10). Das Lion’s Den Match hat mir sehr gut gefallen, war mal etwas anderes, wobei man sich bei der Matchführung natürlich sehr stark am Wrestling orientiert (8/10). Tag-Title-Match ist total für die Katz, ein paar Punkte für die Bumps (3/10). Das Ladder-Match zwischen Rock und HHH gehört zu meinen Favoriten seiner Art, da es mir sehr zusagt, das Ladder-Match als knallharten Brawl geführt zu sehen; absolut überdurchschnittliches Match (12/10). Der Main Event ist dafür eher enttäuschend, fehlende Chemie zwischen Taker und Austin und viele Unsauberkeiten (8/10). Gesamt: 6, 5. |
