321.07.2017jboyaquar5.0What a strange, idioyncratic show; everything was so particular, nuanced and ultimately self-defeating that this gig would never be shown to introduce someone to this product. It opened w/ the longwinded abuse of D Allin; the storyline of a dude coming back too soon is absurd because I immediately think, 'well, why was he booked? ' And if he can't be competitve then the match depends on the audience's empathy, but DA is not established-enough to have earned such a vaunted babyface poition. He's not El Generico circa '07. And then the botched finish. So, a rather aupicuous start is followed by something even weirder, but I mostly enjoyed it and respected them for putting on such performance art. ACH/Page, w/ probable consent and/or leadership from the booker, appeared to be a response/commentary and/or a continuation of the famed Rip Roger tweet parodying 'every indie match today. ' They're riffing the Ospreay's/Ricochet/and even Meltzer. The participants often asked for crowd participation, but I wonder the level of awareness of the responders as I'm sure their comprehenion of the mutiple strands of irony at-work here varied. Poor L Leonard was in a tough poition as he had to sell Page/ACH as disgraceful little children making him both unhip to this novelty as ell as having the effect of making me roll my eyes as if Evolve would ever allow this breakdown of professionalism w/out previous approval. It's not great, but is assuredly good and comes recommended. Unfortunately, what followed wasn't compelling as what I wanted was quality, serious-minded wrestling and what I got was the long-dull Kincade/Davis, an unsatisfying no-contest, wacky local dudes putting-forth the type of (fun) match ACH/Page, and as such Evolve, made fun of, a gimmick-ruining pre-match Priscilla promo, and an overbaked and poor-man's Lucha U hard push of A Theory. No wonder the crowd was mostly dead for the earnest Main. 4. 75

515.07.2017Glover8.0Thatcher vs Darby was a very good opener that featured some good offense; this is a great example of how all of Thatcher's matches have "weight" to them (***1/2 to ***3/4). ACH vs Page was the parody match the indie scene needs right now; it's not high comedy or must-see or anything, but it's good for a laugh if you're sick of a few particular tropes (***1/4). Kincaid vs Davis had potential but it became something of a slog sadly, pulling it down outside of a few neat moments (**1/2 to **3/4). Hot Sauce vs Keith Lee was a really, really good first half of a match before the ref went down; despite the flatness of the no contest, the brawl after was fine and included another wild Keith dive, so I still think this was worthwhile (***1/2). The Tag Titles were a wild spotfest; it wasn't a lot more than that but DAMN all those tag team maneuvers were awesome (***3/4). Theory vs Beretta II was a whole match of Trent? working from beneath, which means it was very good; Theory is coming into his heel role pretty well, but Trent? had his selling on POINT here (***3/4). Nothing was necessarily wrong with ZSJ vs Yehi, but the crowd just didn't get into it at all; some solid technical exchanges and a couple good sequences involving Fred's stomps and suplexes, but this mostly dragged until the last couple minutes and even then it felt underwhelming (***1/4). A very good show where a couple matches performed beneath expectations.

910.07.2017trinidadchainz4.0Allin/Thatcher - * 1/2, ACH/Page - Comedy Match, Kincaid/Davis - ***, Lee/Williams - ** 1/4 (cut short as getting good), Tag Title - *** 1/2, Theory/Trent - ***, ZSJ/Yehi - *** 3/4 . Not the best show, Highlights being Jon Davis' debut, Henry & Drake showing that they are a great tag team & a Great Main Event marred due to a very dead crowd unfortunately.
1010.07.2017NastyYaffa6.0Darby/Thatcher was an awesome opener - great stuff with Thatcher dominating most of it (***3/4), ACH/Page was an amusing comedy match; went well with the story of both of them (ACH in particular) being unhappy with how they're treated by the company (***), Kincaid/Davis was very dull (*), Lee/Williams was good while it lasted - the finish was what it was (***), the tag title match did nothing to me (*), Henry/Trent was really good - loved Henry's vicious onslaught on Trent's injured arm (***1/2), ZSJ/Yehi was MOTN - loved all the limb & mat work (***3/4). Overall a solid show.
1110.07.2017TheCleaner0.0I don't care for this stupid roster of midgets. Evolve Shows are so hard to watch. The commentary is dull and so is the crowd. Just the almost same card for every show. Evolve 89 is the worst
