[6.0] "This PPV started off well with a great match between The Rockers and The Orient Express, followed by a surprisingly solid match between Bossman and Barbarian, but unfortunately it lost its way a bit after that. The WWF Title match had really good energy, but Slaughter looked really poor and like he belonged nowhere near the title picture. His main event push has been a colossal dud and significantly detracts from every show that he appears on. Mountie's debut was not good at all, and the Rhodes family tag was pretty basic, but Virgil's face turn which followed was a great segment and very memorable. The Rumble match itself had its moments, but was a bit of a slog, with too many periods where it felt like nothing much was happening. I'd say there was just enough on this show to eke out a positive rating rather than a mediocre one, but only just barely."
[10.0] "This is one of my absolute favorite PPVs from the Golden Era. There is so much star power packed onto this show! The featured bout is the Royal Rumble itself, and length-wise it dominates the card. The Rumble match is excellent, maintaining a brisk pace throughout, furthering several feuds, and having almost no blatantly obvious rest spots. The match disappoints a little with the absence of the Macho King. The crowd catches on late and take out their disappointment on poor Tugboat as he comes out at #30 to raucous boos. Fun match that showcases the roster well! The rest of the card is better than some suggest, in my view. The opening tag team match is one of my favorite tag bouts in the WWF, Bossman/Barbarian is good for a plodding hoss match, and the Warrior/Slaughter title bout has great heat and features interference from the Macho King and Queen Sherri which helps hide the limitations of Warrior. The crowd deflates after the shocking title change. This was a big deal at the time and led to death threats for Slaughter and his family. HEAT! Unfortunately this effectively kills enthusiasm for the next two matches. Mountie/Koko is a 12 minute squash match that doesn't really help either guy that much, and Dusty+Dustin/DiBiase+Virgil, while a satisfactory tag team bout, doesn't get enough time to breathe and has a dud of a finish that comes out of nowhere, lacking proper build. The segments after the match, however, gets the crowd riled back up again, as this is the famous moment that Virgil clocks DiBiase and turns babyface, something that had been hinted at in segments for many weeks prior. The crowd buys into the turn 100% and it's a joy to see after Slaughter's deflating victory. And I've already covered the Rumble itself. Don't skip to the matches though! There are some great segments in between the matches, most notably being the Macho King and Queen Sherri at the peak of their talents, cutting some amazing promos, including Sherri trying to seduce Warrior in a surprisingly racy angle, and Macho putting over Warrior by running away as he pounds on his dressing room door after Macho costs him the world title. Highly recommended event if you have any interest in the time period."
[6.0] "In terms of bell to bell action, it was fine and the Rockers/Express match being a highlight, not only for the show but the whole Golden era of the WWF. The Sherri/Warrior/Savage angle was the highlight of the night for me, just a shame that it had to include that Warrior/Slaughter match, that really stunk up the joint. Was there no one better to give the belt to then Slaughter? ! But I enjoyed a good majority of the show and the star power they had was off the charts. They also started to plant the seeds of WrestleMania VII perfectly (Warrior/Savage, DiBiase/Virgil, Boss Man/Heenan Family) and the crowd was hot for 95% for the night, which helped massively. Would have been rated higher if it wasn't for the World title match leaving such a poor taste in my mouth."

Not the best rumble match by far. But still, what a roster with a debuting Undertaker. This show deserves more love. Also greatest poster artwork ever"
[6.0] "A show that hits its peak way too early, but is still a fairly easy watch. Rockers/Orient Express is the clear MOTN with plenty of strong highflying (8/10) Bossman/Barbarian was a bit dull at times but it had some other surprising athletic movies to even it out (5/10) Slaugther/Warrior was overbooked and pretty basic wrestling wise, but I thought it was surprisingly entertaining building up the Warrior/Savage feud. Extra pint for Sherris bump (6/10) Mountie/Koko was an extended squash and basically filler, but kept decent by having solid workers (5/10) Dibiase/Virgil vs. the Rhodes was average with good work from the better guys in the ring, a good early showing for Dustin as well. The most important part is the storytelling leading to Virgils face turn (6/10) The Rumble itself is worked well enough but it doesn't really have many highlights except maybe Taker's presence when he first comes in. Its nothing bad but very unremarkable (5/10) One really good match and the rest being along the middle with no awful I think its enough for a satisfactory rating"
[6.0] "This Royal Rumble perfectly does what every great Royal Rumble event should strive to do. Drive home quality and entertaining matches while ultimately laying the framework or solidifying the already existing framework that gets us to Wrestlemania. More than any other PPV, I think Royal Rumble holds the most storytelling weight to it. This particular Rumble event does both very well. By the end of this event, pretty much all of the pieces are in place for what you'll be seeing at Wrestlemania 7. And on top of that, match quality wasn't sacrificed here for the storytelling. The whole card only has one throwaway match. Besides the Mountie vs. Koko, every other match is serviceable at worst, which is honestly all you can really ask for. While this event might not QUITE be good enough that it tore the house down, and probably aged a little worse than some other events, I don't think there's too much more you can ask for. The show is enjoyable and engaging pretty much the whole way through. It's a show that'll keep your eyes on it, and one I think many people will enjoy matching as a whole event even now."
[5.0] "Not a bad PPV. Two stinkers were Barbarian vs The Big Boss Man and The Ultimate Warrior vs Sgt. Slaughter, but apart from that every match was at least decent. The Rockers had a nice match packed with action and Koko vs Mountie was another showdown of Birdman's ability to get the new guy over. DiBiase & Virgil vs The Rhodes was also a really good match, this time more focused on the story and the characters rather than the pure in ring work, while the Royal Rumble Match was alright although a bit disappointing. Overall a mid PPV, but with some good stuff here and there."
[7.0] "The best Royal Rumble event so far. Most the matches on this card are actually decent to good; which is truly refreshing. Heck I even enjoyed an Ultimate Warrior match on this show and that doesn't happen every day. Some great character work/work in general from Sherri on this show; she was my MVP. I hate to say this considering the timing but General Adnan (R.I.P) had my least favourite performance of the show. Hogan gets his second Rumble win on this night. A banger of an opener was a nice treat here. A surprisingly good show."

[7.0] "This is something of a sentimental favorite as a friend had this among a handful of Coliseum Video releases and it got a few views from us over the years. It's not quite as strong as the previous year's Rumble overall, but is fairly close. The Rumble itself isn't quite as strong as its 1990 counterpart; at some points it has just too many guys in the ring brawling aimlessly, but it does have its moments - the Road Warriors getting a somewhat surprising elimination on Taker, a good run from Earthquake, the funny quick elimination of Bushwhacker Luke, etc. - and while Hogan winning for the second time in a row was maybe anticlimactic in a way, I don't really know who else it would've been at the time with an implied (if not yet officially announced) title shot against heel Slaughter at Mania at stake. On the undercard, we get a great tag opener between the Rockers and Orient Express, a decent hoss battle between Boss Man and Barbarian, and the farewell match of the Rhodes as well as the face turn of Virgil, and the controversial Iraqi-sympathizer Slaughter winning in nefarious fashion over the Warrior. The undercard was actually somewhat stronger than 1990s, while the Rumble itself was weaker. A solid and nostalgic watch nonetheless."

The tag opener is far beyond the typical WWF formula and the Rumble was better than the previous year in some ways and weaker in other. Overall, a great show!"

"The very first PPV I ever saw. Call it nostalgia if you want but I still enjoy this event. The rumble match itself is nothing special interesting of moves or spots but it is the one I will never forget. I can recite the order of all the entrants without even having to think about it. And up until the 2000s this might have had the best undercard of any rumble. I think the rockers vs orient express match still holds up today and the Slaughter vs Warrior title match has all the smoke and mirrors in the world. If you grew up during the hulkamania era this show is definitely worth a watch."
[9.0] "I like how Koko B. Ware was sent out for a match after Sgt. Slaughter won the title; like having a clown conduct a funeral. Great pay-per-view anyway, especially if you're drawn to the storyline aspects that run through the show as much as the matches, like I am. The opener is one of the WWF's all-time great tag team matches; the Warrior/Savage/Sherri stuff is gold even if Sherri's acting isn't; Boss Man vs Barbarian is way better than it has any right to be; Virgil's face turn is a lovely moment; and the Rumble Match is a Rumble Match, and sometimes that's enough."
[6.0] "Even though I'm not a big fan of the Rumble match itself, there's a lot of stuff from this whole PPV to like. The Rockers vs. The Orient Express was a terrific opening match, Bossman vs. Barbarian was a really good hoss fight, Warrior/Sarge was really dramatic with tons of heat which I enjoyed to a degree, and the DiBiase/Virgil segment was awesome as well. I would give this more had the Rumble match been better in my opinion, but this was still a pretty good show."
[9.0] "Great event overall, almost the whole undercard was super enjoyable and the Rumble itself is always a blast, even if Hogan's push seemed a little over the top by this time. The only downside for me is the poor Slaughter/Warrior match, at least Slaughter didn't get crickets like he did at Survivor Series but this is the angle that would force the company to massively downgrade their Wrestlemania venue due to poor ticket sales (and a "bomb threat", sure... ). But yeah, overall this is a great show after an overall weak 1990."

Die Rockers waren immer gut in der Rolle der technischen Underdogfaces, die sich gegen die methodischeren Heels zurückkämpften und die Rolle füllte der Orient Express ebenfalls gut aus. Insgesamt war es ein wirklich gelungenes Beispiel für ein old schooliges Tag Team Match. Danach gab es dann das Segment mit Sherri und dem Ultimate Warrior und da wurde schon der Grundstein für die Story des Abends mit dem Macho King gelegt aber dazu später mehr. Big Bossman gegen den Barbarian danach war ein für mich etwas überraschend anständiges Big Man Match mit Ansätzen von Bodypartwork. Dann kam das WWF World Heavyweight Title Match und das war mehr ein Angle als ein wirkliches Match weil wrestlerisch war da wenig sondern es ging einerseits um die Story um den Krieg damals mit dem desertierten Slaughter und andererseits um die Geschichte vom Macho King und dem Warrior - dementsprechend viele Eingriffe gab es auch. Für das was es war okay aber mehr nicht. Mountie gegen Koko B Ware war dann ein ziemlicher Filler danach und bei Vater und Sohn Rhodes gegen DiBiase und Virgil ging es vor Allem um den Turn von Letzterem nach dem Match. Dann kam das Rumble Match und das begann mit Hart, welcher in der Folge auch zentral war da alle sich gegen ihn zusammenrotteten und ihn schließlich auch eliminierten. Danach gab es dann einiges an Allianzen und Tag Team Partnern die zusammenarbeiteten und so weiter sowie einen abwesenden Macho King, bis es schließlich zu gelungen Schlussphase kam. Allerdings gab es auch ereignisarme Passagen. Insgesamt in meinen Augen ein anständiges Rumble Match und anständig fand ich die Show auch als Ganzes. Der Opener war das MOTN, das namensgebende Match und auch Boss Man gegen Barbarian waren anständig und in der Mitte war qualitätsmäßig in Sachen Wrestling schon etwas ein Loch aber da ging es dann im Title Match und beim Tag Team Match auch eher um Storysachen. Insgesamt halte ich 6 Punkte für angemessen."
[7.0] "Great show based on the Gulf War ! Sgt winning the title and allying with General Adnan was one of the best booking ideas Vince ever had and the whole plot that was invented into this show to create build up for WrestleMania VII was fantastic. The way the match between Warrior and Slaughter ended was perfect for the construction into the historic retirement match between Warrior and Savage! also Hogan winning the rumble was Great and perfect for that period of time! This was also the first ever Royal Rumble for The Undertaker! so ... Great! 7. 5 is my rating! mostly for the build up for WrestleMania VII! Rest of the card was good! Rockers vs Orient express great tag team match! I loved the way Virgil betrayed Ted Di biase venting months and months of fustration! A first time ever for a Storyline that will be used so many times inside WWE! think about Murphy turning on Rollins! think about Batista turning on HHH in Evolution! happy to see "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes teaming up with his father Dusty! Their relationship reminds me the one we are seeing nowdays between Rey Mysterio and Dominik! I gave to Dominik a blessing! If he will have a Carrear half good the one Dustin had he will become a true Superstar!"

[7.0] "The Rockers vs. The Orient Express. This is the Orient Express 2. 0 with Paul Diamond reuniting with his former Bad Company cohort Pat Tanaka. These two teams had dozens of matches in the AWA, so their chemistry is down pat, and it shows here. In fact, these two teams go so far back that Shawn Michaels and Paul Diamond used to be in a tag team known as the American Force back in Texas. One of my favorite tag matches of all time. ****1/2. The Barbarian vs. The Big Bossman. Barbarian stalls for a while before getting in. I don? t know what they said to Barbarian, but he had his work mukluks on here. Bossman was reaching his peak as a worker too, so this was better than it looked on paper. **1/4. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter. Warrior snaps the Iraqi flag pole in half and chokes Slaughter with it. He shoves the flag in Slaughter? s mouth, I guess as some kind of metaphor. The crowd was hot throughout, but the match was horrible. 3/4* Ted Dibiase & Virgil vs. Dusty Rhodes & Dustin Rhodes. In one of those little ironic twists, this is Virgil? s big moment, and it comes as he faces the man he was named after ? Dusty Rhodes (Virgil Runnels). Dustin debuted by lasting 10 minutes in a match with Dibiase, so now Dibiase wants to humiliate him. The whole thing started, of course, when Dibiase bought Sapphire out from under Rhodes. It was an odd finish, but Dusty already had a deal to return to WCW as their booker, so they weren? t going to put him over. I should also point out that a lot of people in the WWF were upset with him at the time because he promised them jobs when he got hired and then ignored them when they called. *3/4. Of course, post match, Virgil would finally turn on Dibiase and beat him up. Royal Rumble Match. The match had some big moments, and I like it a lot more in rematches than when I first watched it. ***. The Iraq War angle sours a lot of people, and perhaps rightly so, but there is an outstanding Rockers match, a shocking title change, the Virgil turn, and a decent Rumble. Sadly, the Rockers match would mean nothing in the long run as the WWF decided to break them up before giving them a title run. Thumbs up, mostly for the undercard."
[7.0] "A solid Rumble PPV. Opener is simply a great match, maybe the best match on Rumble so far and maybe the best match of the Rockers as a team. Barbarian vs Bossman is a good two big man match. Slaughter vs Warrior is pretty awful. It is one of the shortest matches on this event but it felt like an hour. Mountie vs Koko is enjoyable at some points but the crowd is totally dead after Slaughter's win. Virgil's face-turn is a very underrated moment in my opinion, I really liked it. Unfortunately Royal Rumble match itself isn't that good, though still not bad."

[6.0] "Der Royal Rumble PPV aus dem Jahre 1991 ist alles andere als schlecht. Die ersten 3 Matches sind alle okay bis gut und Machen spaß. Dannach wird es leider schlechter. Wirklich schlimm ist nur das unnötige Match zwischen The Mountie und Koko aber trotzdem zu wenig um PPV als wirklich gut zu bezeichnen. Das Royal Rumble Match hätte es retten können aber wirklich gut war das Match auch nicht. Rick Martel seine Leistung sollte man hervorheben und The Undertaker sein auftritt war auch gelungen. Sonst gab es halt die Typische Hulk Hogan Show. Aber ganz von vorne. Opener war Gut, mehr dazu im guide. The Big Bossman und The Barbarian zeigen dann tatsächlich starkes Match. Meine Erwartungen waren bei Null aber ich sah ein Grund Solides Big Man Match mit Story. Das Match um den WWF Championship war dann auch ganz gut. Wrestlerisch schlechter als das Match davor aber das ganze drum herum und die Wichtigkeit durch den Titel runden das Macht gut ab. An dieser stelle sollte ich erwähnen das der PPV vom Anfang bis zum Ende die Story zwischen Macho Man und dem Ultimate Warrior fortgeführt hat. Kann man schlecht finden aber ich finde das es den PPV nicht schlechter macht. Es pusht die Fehde. Hätte gerne die beiden Herren um den Belt bei WrestleMania kämpfen sehen. Das zweite Tag Team Match war auch okay. Überraschen der Sieg von TedDibiase. Hätte ich nicht erwartet. Finde es aber gut das er konsequent als Starker heel gepusht wird. Die Szene nach dem Match ist auf jeden falls ein kleines Hilight. TedDibiase als Heel anfang der 90er ist eínfach Gold Wert. Zum Royal Rumble kann ich nicht viel mehr schreiben. Hulk Hogan Show. Im Jahre 1991 gerade so noch zu ertragen."
[7.0] "This was a good Royal Rumble event, the opening tag team match was the best match, solid action from the Rockers and the Orient Express. Big Boss Man vs The Barbarian was better than exptected, Warrior vs Slaughter a terrible match with horrible consequences (Slaughter vs Hogan as the main event of WM7), The Montie vs Koko B. Ware is forgettable, the feud Rhodes-DiBiase comes to a surprising ending with the face turn of Virgil. The Royal Rumble match wasn't good or better than the previous years, but at least it has an impressive star power."
[6.0] "Im Ring durch und durch mittelmässig, mit der Ausnahme eines bemerkenswerten Openers, strickt dieser Royal Rumble vor allen Dingen an den Wrestlemania-Szenarien. Der Titel wandert in einem schockierenden Wechsel vom Warrior zum verhassten Slaughter, und somit deckt man den Tisch für einen weiteren Titelgewinn des Hulksters bei der anstehenden siebten Edition der Jahreshauptveranstaltung. Besagter Hogan gewinnt fast schon selbstverständlich das Rumble Match gegen 29 andere, überwiegend zäh und behäbig agierende, WWF Superstars. Diese Battle-Royal ist wirklich eine recht schwache - viele Tag Spezialisten, nur Gebrawle und mit Ausnahme der Undertaker-Eliminierung durch die LOD auch gänzlich ohne Erzählstruktur. Der Warrior bekommt somit den wütenden Macho King auf den Radar, welcher massgeblich am Titelwechsel beteiligt ist. Bezüglich Wrestlemanias spielen auch die Geschehnisse im überschaubar geworkten Tag-Match unter Beteiligung der Rhodes-Familie eine Rolle, denn Virgil stellt sich nach knappem Erfolg gegen seinen Arbeitgeber und turnt motiviert durch diverse Demütigungen face. Das Match zwischen dem Bossman und dem Barbarian ist ein überraschend ansehnlicher Big Men Brawl und Koko macht einen unspektakulären Job für den Mountie. Fazit - bei dieser Show ist nichts so richtig schlecht, aber ausser dem Opener halt auch nichts so richtig gut, wobei die Stories (ob man sie nun mag oder nicht) beispielhaft vorangetrieben werden. Für ein eher zweckdienliches Event ist das somit eine ziemlich seriöse Angelegenheit."
[3.0] "Surprise, surprise. Another low-rated Royal Rumble -- sorry! What can I say? It was pretty much all downhill after the opening tag team match (The Rockers went almost twenty minutes against the Orient Express -- crazy! )."
[6.0] "Sehr starker Opener mit dem Orient Express und den Rockers. Michaels und Janetty treten wann immer es geht das Gaspedal volldurch und es macht einfach nur Spaß den beiden zuzuschauen. Das Titelmatch zwischen dem Warrior und Sgt. Slaughter ist storytechnisch mit dem Eingriff vom Macho King echt gut gemacht. Das Match selbst ist allerdings mit viel Wohlwollen geradeso mittelmäßig. Die drei weiteren Matches sind allesamt schwach und langweilig. Der Rumble selbst war ganz ordentlich. Er hatte allerdings das Problem das er von der Starpower sehr viel schlechter besetzt war als das Jahr zuvor oder gar danach. Wenn man sich die Teilnehmer angeschaut hat war klar das nur Hogan das Match gewinnen konnte, da ansonsten kein einziger Teilnehmer auch nur ansatzweise das Standing für einen Sieg hatte. Wie man das Ganze dann am Ende umgesetzt hat war eigentlich o. k. und es gab sogar einen richtigen kurzen Fight um den Sieg. Ansonsten fiel Rick Martel als Marathon-Mann positiv auf und der ständig volle Ring negativ auf. Ach ja, der erste Rumble-Auftritt des Takers war auch imposant. Insgesamt eine durchschnittliche Show bei der man sich die drei langweiligen Matches echt sparen kann."
[6.0] "Die Rockers und der Orient Express fackeln nach schönem Mattenwrestling zu Beginn ein wirkliches Spotfeuerwerk ab, am Ende geht es ständig hin und her, da stören auch die kleineren Längen des Matches nicht (9/10). Das Segment mit Sherri und dem Warrior ist gut (7/10). Der Big Bossman und der Barbarian sind dann eher für das Grobe zuständig; nach anfänglichen Längen (Bear Hug) wird es zum Ende hin noch richtig dramatisch (6/10). Slaughter vs. Warrior erreicht nur durch das Eingreifen des Macho Man halbwegs mittelmäßiges Niveau (5/10). Vater und Sohn Rhodes vs. DiBiase/ Virgil beginnt eigentlich ganz munter, das Ende kommt dann aber völlig unvermittelt, da es zu diesem Zeitpunkt ohnehin nur um die Story um DiBiase und Virgil geht (6/10). Der Rumble gefällt mir besser als der andere „Hogan-Rumble“, hier bekommen viele Worker ihren Spot eingeräumt, insbesondere wird das Ganze aber von einem überragenden Rick Martel getragen (12/20). Gesamt: 6, 43."
[7.0] "Weltklasse Opener, auch heute noch unfassbar gut zum Anschauen und ein Must-See, wenn man sich einzelne Matches von damals rauspicken möchte, ohne direkt alle PPVs zu schauen. Barbarian vs Boss Man war definitiv besser als erwartet, sie konnten einiges von ihrer Beweglichkeit zeigen, somit schon mal ein starker Beginn in den Abend. Warrior vs Slaughter war wrestlerisch nix, vom Booking in meinen Augen aber überragend in Kombination mit dem Rumble-Match: WTF-Moment mit Slaughter als Champion => Opfer für den Rumble-Sieger Hogan bei der folgenden Wrestlemania, Warrior "überlebt" als starker Charakter durch den Eingriff von Savage + automatisch das nächste Highlight für Wrestlemania. Kann man so machen. Koko vs Mountie ist nur für's Archiv. Rhodes vs Dollars war auch ok, hier also der überfällige Split vom Dollar Man und Virgil, geht ok. Rumble war stark, natürlich mit absehbarem Sieger und etwas viel Patroitismus am Ende, so ist das bei den Amis und vor allem der damaligen Zeit halt."

Das WWE Championship Match lebte vor allem von der Story. (2 1/2*)4. Das Tag Team Match war okay. Der Split von Virgil sollte ihm ja mehr bringen. Wie so oft blieeb Virgil aber blass. (2 1/2*)5. Das Rumble gefiel mir trotz Hogan als Sieger gut. Im ersten Drittel waren einige Könner am Start. Starke Leistungen von Martel, Valentine und dem Bulldog. Auch Douglas, Santana, der Tornado und Hart durften aufzeigen. (3 3/4*)"

Bossman vs Barbarian ist überraschend kurzweilig, Warrior vs Slaughter ist weniger Match als vielmehr Angle aber auch unterhaltsam und das Dibiase/Virgil vs Rhodes Family TagTeam Match ist ok. Der Rumble leidet unter den langen Abständen und viel zu wenig (damals) wirklich großen Namen denen man einen Sieg auch abnehmen kann. Hauptsächlich TagTeams und untere Midcard. Die einzigen großen Namen sind Hogan und Earthquake. Ansonsten hatte man eigentlich nur Jake, Taker, Perfect und Bulldog als aufsteigende Namen denen man noch was zugetraut hat und die ersten beiden wurden ziemlich früh eliminiert. Martel war unterhaltsam als Typ den man nicht rausbekommt aber an einen Sieg hat hier wohl niemand geglaubt. Leider ist dies auch einer der unstrukturiertesten Rumbles was bedeutet das 90% des Matches daraus besteht dass unkoordiniert Schläge verteilt werden und man sich gegenseitig gegen die Seile drückt. Richtige Action kommt nur sporadisch auf. Trotzdem bekommt der PPV unterm Strich von mir immer noch *** 3/4"
[7.0] "Ich muss LexLuger4evers Aussage wiederholen, einer der aller besten Opener aller Zeiten (mit Hart vs. Hart von WM X). Dieses eine Match verdient schon 4 Punkte. Doch leider ist alles was danach kommt nicht mehr das gelbe vom Ei aus wrestlerischer Sicht. Allerdings ist das Storytelling bei Warrior-Slaughter (mit dem drumherum) und der Rumble wirklich gut. Insgesamt bekommt der 91er Rumble von mir 7 Punkte."
[6.0] "Den Opener fand ich im Gegensatz zu vielen Kommentatoren hier nicht so toll. Da hats halt nicht geklickt. Wieder einmal war ich aber hier vom Big Boss Man überrascht und auch Barbarian hat eine tolle Leistung abgerufen. Das Match dieser Beiden war in meinen Augen doch deutlich besser als der Opener. Das World Heavyweight Title Match ist natürlich eine totale Farce und sollte als eines der schlechtesten WWF/WWE Matches in die Geschichte eingehen. Ist der Warrior an und für sich schon limitiert trifft er hier auf einen im Gimmick gefangenen Sgt. Slaughter. Ganz übles Match. Einzig der Macho King konnte hier überzeugen. Einer der Höhepunkte dieser Veranstaltung war der Trash Talk von Col. Jimmy Hart an Frankie, den Papageien von Koko B. Ware. Das Match selbst war unterer Durchschnitt, was ebenfalls für das Vater-Son-Tag Team zutrifft. Im Rumble haben besonders Martel und Valentine durch lange Anwesenheit geglänzt. Cool war dort insbesondere der Auftritt von Bushwhacker Luke: Rein und Raus! Der Sieg Hogans stand hier wohl lange schon fest."
[6.0] "Ein solider PPV insgesamt. Der Opener war echt gut. Der Rumble an sich war auch sehr ordentlich, mal wieder mit dem Sieger Hogan. Die restlichen Matches waren eher durchschnittlich bis schwach. Der Titelwechsel auf Slaughter war damals natürlich krass, auch aufgrund des realen politischen Hintergrunds damals."
[7.0] "Opener ****, Bossman vs Barbarian *3/4, World Title Match **, Mountie vs Ware *, Dibiasie & Virgil vs Rhodes & Rhodes **1/2, ME ***1/2. Eine Show die trotz eines eher schwachen Wolrd Title Matche durchaus unterhalten kann."
[7.0] "Insgesamt ein sehr ordentlicher PPV. Der Opener war natürlich fantastisch. Außerdem ordentlich war noch der Rumble. Den Rest der Matches war aber auch nicht so schlecht. Der Titelwechsel auf Slaughter war natürlich ein Hammer damals."
[7.0] "Ordentlicher PPV der WWF/WWE. Der Opener zwischen den Rockers und dem Orient Express ist eindeutig das Match des Abends und bietet uns spannendes und technisch gutes Tag Team Wrestling. Glücklicherwiese erhält es auch genügend Zeit. Damals bedeutete Tag Wrestling halt noch ein bisschen was. Das Titelmatch war sicherlich kein Wrestlingklassiker, aber storytechnisch recht ordentlich umgesetzt und damals wirklich eine richtig böse Überraschung für die Fans. Der Rumble war dann wieder gut, nix weltbewegendes, aber gut. Sogar DiBiasi/Virgil gegen die Dusty und Dustin war in Ordnung. Die anderen beiden Matches sind keine großen Würfe, aber gehen auch noch in Ordnung. Insgesamt also ein ganz guter PPV."
[9.0] "Der Irak-Krieg war deutlich zu spüren und gewann mit Slaughter als Champion nun auch tiefgehenden Einzug ins Wrestling. Dieser Royal Rumble legte den Grundstein für fast alle Fehden bis in den späten Sommer hinein."
[8.0] "Ein hervorragendes Tag Team Match im Opener (****1/4), ein gut gebooktes WWF Title Match (incl. Angles vor dem Match) und eines der besseren Royal Rumble Matches bilden ein sehr stabiles Grundgerüst für diesen PPV. Bossman vs Barbarian war dazu noch erstaunlich stark (beide hatten ihre Working Boots an), so daß das nicht so gute Tag Team Match der Rhodes dann nicht wirklich ins Gewicht fiel. Ein guter klassischer PPV!"
[6.0] "Das Royal Rumble Match war ok, das Titlematch nicht berauschend, aber halt historisch und der Opener war legendär und gilt meines Wissens in Expertenkreisen auch als einer der besten Opener in PPV History."
[6.0] "Ein wirklich guter Rumble, der aber aufgrund des geschmacklosen Angles rund um den Heavyweight Title eine Stufe nach unten rutscht. Die (zu erwartende) Hogan-Show, der wunderschöne Opener & das ordentliche Match zwischen dem Barberian & dem Bossman runden den PPV ab."

[10.0] "Diese Rumble war der erste Event in meinem Leben, den ich gesehen habe. Natürlich war ich damals überzeugt und zwischenzeitlich habe ich mir den PPV auch mehrmals angesehen und bin immer noch angetan. Solide bis gute Matches, spannendes Rumble-Match in einem ereignisreichen Main Event."
