Dungeon of Doom getting revamped was surprisingly a good decision because those weird as gimmicks were getting bland. So many mid card guys being tested to see if they're ready for title pictures. |

Steiners vs Fire & Ice was 4 big jocks trading big strikes and power moves. Mostly mindless in strategy and structure, but still somewhat entertaining. **3/4. Konan vs Gato was a very basic and low-effort "lucha"-style match with many unnatural transitions. Gato was very out-of-his-depth and Konan barely held his end together. *3/4. DDP vs Bagwell was very generic, with Bagwell as the below-average energetic babyface and DDP as the cowardly, despicable, and melodramatic heel. Not exactly 'bad', just incredibly boring. **. Malenko vs Mysterio was frustrating but still enjoyable. Malenko showed off some wonderful grappling while tearing apart Mysterio's arm, and Mysterio sold very sympathetically while hitting some wonderfully flashy high-flying attacks. Malenko's control segment definitely lasted way too long, but Mysterio's stunts won the fans back over in the final few mins. Easily MOTN. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Tenta vs Bubba was two lame and unathletic guys taking 5 mins and making them feel like 20. *. Benoit vs Sullivan had some low-level charm for standing out as the "wild brawl" on the show, but it was ultimately very generic, with lots of messy-brawling all over the place. The bathroom setting was creative but didn't lead to anything worthwhile. The table spots were also mostly very underwhelming. **1/2. Sting vs Regal was alright. Regal looked good with his stiff strikes and nasty holds. His heel character work and selling was overly melodramatic but at least still somewhat entertaining for how outright goofy it was. Sting's energetic attacks and strength-displays were typically basic but still fun, making him an endearing babyface to counter Regal. Decent match but could have benefitted from cutting out about 5 mins. ***. Arn & Flair vs McMichael & Greene was bad, since it had 2 non-wrestlers being WAY too comfortable and dominant against two top WCW stars, and it was definitely way too long. McMichael and Greene's offence obviously wasn't very good but at least not terrible. Their charisma plus Arn and Flair's selling/bumping kept things somewhat afloat. Arn and Flair definitely still shouldn't have been as heavily dominated and reliant on cheating as they were, though, and even their control work wasn't very interesting. McMichael turning on Greene for the finish was really dumb, and him seemingly joining the 4 Horsemen was outrageously stupid. *3/4. Hall & Nash's interview/angle with Bischoff continued to build up anticipation for their eventual debut. The Giant vs Luger was filled with lots of goofy Luger-riffic selling and lumbering monster attacks. There was zero intensity, creativity, or drama here. Only good moment was Luger "racking" Giant after he'd been planted on the turnbuckle. *1/2. |

Konnan/El Gato ging nur kurz und hatte ein paar nette Aktionen, das wars dann aber schon(**1/4). Page/Bagwell gefiel mir zu Beginn besser, als am Ende(**1/2). Malenko/Misterio ist mein MotN. Die Cruiserweights machen das, was sie am besten können, nämlich wrestlen und das richtig gut(****). Tenta/Bubba war ein Fillermatch(**). Benoit/Sullivan ein Brawl, der für ein bisschen Abwechslung sorgte und echt spaßig war(***3/4). Sting/Regal war besser als erwartet und hatte tollen Charakterwork von beiden(***1/2). Tag Team Match war okay, nur ging es deutlich zu lange(**3/4). Luger/Giant war solide und lässt den Giant stark dastehen(***). |

[1st match] Big hoss battle, fun but scary brawl. **3/4 [2nd match] Very bad US title match, El Gato was fucking terrible and very noticeably slipped just leaving the ring to the outside. *1/4 [3rd match] DDP and Bagwell fought in the ring... for a ring... it was actually pretty good. *** [4th match] Dean put on a technical clinic; had Rey grounded for about 90% of the match before Rey made a slight comeback. ***1/4 [5th match] Tenta did practically nothing and still won somehow. 1/2* [6th match] Dull brawl that was mostly spent in the crowd & the bog. Benoit trying to haul Sullivan over the guardrail to stall whilst he got a table was agonising. *1/2 [7th match] Similar to Dean/Rey (just replace Dean with Regal and Rey with Sting). Very strong showing by Regal to hang with the likes of Sting. Probably MOTN. ***1/4 [8th match] The football dudes didn't do much, but didn't embarrass themselves. Went too long and was overbooked. * [Main] Better than I was expecting to be honest. Luger's rack attempt on Giant was a cool spot. Giant was fast & athletic... scarily so. **1/2. The Hall/Nash/Bischoff angle was brilliantly done, forgettable show but has a place in history of WCW's greatest period of their existence. |

The front half of the show has a few average-but-solid matches, including the Steiners-Fire & Ice opener, before Malenko and a debuting Rey Jr. put on one of the best Cruiserweight Title matches WCW had had up to this point. With the brief break of Tenta vs. Bubba - a brief brawl stemming from an uninspiring feud - the show then goes to a very strong back half, with the wild Benoit vs. Sullivan brawl that goes from the ring to the men's room and back, an excellent Sting vs. Regal bout, a tag bout between Flair/Anderson and Mongo/Greene that is surprisingly decent considering one entire team was, at the time, composed of non-wrestlers, and a decent enough Giant-Luger main event that saw Luger able to showcase his strength by Racking the Giant before Giant was able to come back to win. Worth the watch especially for those four bouts plus the Cruiser Title match. |

Opening tag is surprisingly great, the Steiners are a tremendously fun team and the hosses in Fire & Ice give them a good fight, especially Norton. Konnan/Gato is forgettable, but not really bad or anything. DDP/Bagwell is enjoyable for what it is, but it really picks up with the fantastic Mysterio/Malenko match, phenomenal stuff especially for newcomer Mysterio. Bubba/Tenta is actually a solid hoss battle, and then things get CRAZY with Benoit and Sullivan having a really insane match, my favorite match on a packed night. Stupendous Arn Anderson promo after that match, by the way. Sting and Regal have a great match as well, I'd say it's the best non-Vader singles match I have ever seen Sting have, Regal was so freakin' good at this time. Horsemen vs. Football players is also surprisingly great, Arn is especially on point helping the football guys look like a million bucks, and there is a ton of fun stuff at ringside with Heenan running around and Savage getting involved, plus the finish is very clever I thought. The main event I expected to be a bit of a write off but it's kind of great in it's own way, Luger has a way better match with Giant than Sting did the month before, and really bumps around for Giant incredibly before AMAZINGLY Racking the Giant over his head! Giant still gets the win, but it's a very good main event in an era that didn't always have that. Great show, should be watched by everyone. |

Dazu hat der Event mit dem Debüt von Rey Mysterio, dem fast schon revolutionären FCA Match, dem Segment rund um Bischoff und die Outsiders sowie den Ereignissen im Tag Team Match eine gewisse historische Relevanz. Kann man sich mal ansehen. |

Bis zum Cruiserweights-Match ist das alles eher lahm und unsauber - die Steiners haben Probleme mit den gewichtigen Gegnern, Konnan dümpelt unfertig im Niemandsland des Interesses und DDP verteidigt einen Status ohne Bedeutung. Auch das Match der ehemaligen Buddies Tenta und Traylor ist behäbig und sogar der eigentliche Mainer zwischen Luger und dem Giant vermittelt alles andere als Klasse. Warum dann diese doch so akzeptable Bewertung? Zum einen sind da einige anständige Begegnungen - die erwähnten Cruiserweights, der satte Brawl zwischen Benoit und Sullivan und auch das Promi-Match mit McMichael und Greene. Das kann man sich ohne Schmerzen ansehen. MOTN ist für mich das technisch relativ saubere und handwerklich überzeugende Match zwischen Regal und Sting, wenn es auch nicht mit Bedeutung überladen ist. Zudem wird diese Veranstaltung durch weitere Geschehnisse auch in ihrer Nachhaltigkeit aufgewertet - zum einen ist der unerwartete Beitritt McMichaels zu den Horsemen schon mehr als ein kleiner Upset, zum anderen ist die Attacke auf den Produzenten Bischoff (wohlgemerkt über ein Jahr vor dem ersten Stunner an McMahon) ein fetter Tabubruch und definiert die Bedeutung der 'Invasoren' Razor & Diesel neu, wobei diese sich erstmals auch ganz deutlich von der WWF distanzieren. Ein wichtiger Zwischenschritt zum geschichtsträchtigen 'Bash at the Beach' Event. |

Leider wurde das Finish upgefucked. Schade. Das folgende Konnan-Match war wie meistens eher enttäuschend. Dieses war einfach viel zu kurz um großartig eine Geschichte zu erzählen. Mir wird langsam immer rätselhafter warum der Mann in Mexiko eine große Nummer ist. DDP vs Bagwell führt den DDP-Push weiter ohne große Akzente zu setzen. Das Cruiserweight Match ist dann für mich eines der beiden MotN. Malenko wird zwar nicht umsonst der Ice-Man genannt (mann der kann echt keinerlei Emotion zeigen), aber als Rey auch Offensivaktionen bekommt wird das Match noch richtig gut. Big Bubba vs Tenta ist der zu erwartende Big Man Brawl der langweiligen Sorte. Das Falls Count Anywhere Match macht das schon besser, ohne mich allerdings vom Hocker zu reissen. Das Finish war aber ganz gut gemacht. Regal vs Sting ist für mich das zweite MotN. Regal darf erstaunlich gut mithalten und kann mal wieder sein Gimmick genial ausspielen. Das Tag Team Match mit den beiden Footballern ist nicht so schlimm wie zu erwarten war, aber definitiv für das gezeigte viel zu lang. Vorallem da es nur auf das Finish an kam. Der Auftritt der Outsiders war beeindruckend. Der Main Event grundsätzlich ganz nett, aber dem Match haben definitiv ein paar Minuten gefehlt. Insgesamt eine ordentliche Show die im Vergleich zu den vorherigen sogar regelrecht stark. Ob das wohl mal wieder an der Abwesenheit Hogans gelegen hat? |

Viele schnelle und technische Aktionen die Lust auf mehr CW Wrestling machen 8/10 Dann das Lowlight des Abends ganz schwach 1/10 Das Falls Count Anywhere Match war ein Brawl durch die ganze Halle, aber durchaus gut anzuschauen und mit gutem Finish. Auch das Anderson sich zu Benoit bekennt, war eine gute Sache 7/10 Sting vs Regal weiß net, hat mich net vom Hocker gehauen da gab es schon besseres 5/10 Dann das Special Tag Team Match, ich habe mir deutlich schlimmeres vorgestellt, aber so schlecht war es gar nicht. Das Ende dann noch sehr überraschend und stark 5/10 Der ME war dann nix besonderes gibt es nicht viel zu sagen 4/10 Insgesamt endlich mal ein bessere WCW PPV auch der Auftritt der Outsiders, war ein Lichtblick. Zu Beginn musste man sich zwar durch drei Matches kämpfen, die nicht wirklich überzeugen konnten, aber bei weitem keine Stinker waren. Der Opener war ein etwas zulanges, aber grundsolides Heavyweight Tag Match, das Match um den US-Belt bot auch nicht viel mehr, war dazu noch etwas unsauber hier und da. DDP gegen Bagwell fiel dann in die Kategorie "War ein Match". Danach drehte man aber richtig auf mit dem Cruiserweight Match, was von Anfang bis Ende sehr sauber geworkt war, eine großartige Bearbeitung von Reys Schulter, einigen sehr beeindruckend High-Spots und Liebe zumm Detail bot. Das Falls Count Anywhere war auch wirklich unterhaltsam mit seinen Abstecher aufs Herren-WC und einem starken Finish. Sting/Regal machte den Hattrick an guten Matches perfekt, indem Regal Sting nach allen Regeln der Kunst vernotete, leider nur das das unspektakuläre Finish etwas runtergestuft wurde. Das Tag Match im Semi-Mainevent war besser als es jedes Recht hatte, bot eine grundsolide Story und einem Turn am Ende der viel Freiraum für zukünftiges bietet. Die einzige wirkliche Gurke von einem Match war dann leider der Mainer, der zu kurz und einfach nur sterbenslangweilig war, was auch die Crowd wohl so sah und das mit eisiger Stille quittierte. Garniert wurde alles mit einem starken Segment rund um die Outsiders und man bekommt einen PPV, den man bedenken los sich anschauen kann. |

Hab ich weniger erwartet, aber ich hatte auch den 99-01er Bagwell im Kopf (**1/4) CW Title siehe Matchguide (***3/4) Bubba vs. Tenta war wie erwartet schwach, aber immerhin kurz (1/2*) FCA siehe MG (**) Sting vs. Regal siehe MG (**1/2) Horsemen vs. Footballer siehe MG (**1/2) Vom Mainer habe ich nicht erwartet, aber is war insgesamt noch in Ordnung. Das Match stand aber deutlich im Schatten des Auftritts der Outsiders und es kam kaum Main Event Felling rüber (*1/4) Insgesamt eine durchwachsene Show. Es gab ein paar durchaus ordentliche Matches, von denen allerdings nicht alle ihr volles Potenzial ausschöpften (FCA und Sting vs. Regal). Match des Abends deutlich das CW Title Match. Als eines der Highlights sollte noch der Auftritt der Outsiders gewertet werden, der durchaus auch die Show hätte beenden können. Der PPV war also insgesamt noch ok und deutlich besser als einiges vorher im WCW Jahr 1996. Den Monats Vergleich gegen den KOTR der WWF verliert man mit dieser Show allerdings. |

Opener ist in Ordnung, Konnan/El Gato kurz und okay, DDP/Bagwell zieht sich etwas, stört aber nicht weiter und dann geht es los. Starkes Match zwischen Malenko und Rey mit Highflying, Body-Part-Working und so einigen der 1000 Holds. Tenta/Bubba dient als Toilet Break und im folgenden FCA Match sorgen Benoit und Sullivan dafür, dass die, die zu spät kamen, sich definitiv beeilten zurückzukommen. Wild, hart geführt und das zweite sehr starke Match. Sting/Regal liefern sich dann einen, im Endeffekt zwar spannungsarmen, aber unterhaltsamen und ansehnlichen Kampf. Der "eigentliche" ME zwischen den Horsemen und den Footballern überrascht dann. Man erwartet nichts, aber mit den beiden alten Hasen und etwas Booking gibt es dann ein sehr ordentliches Match mit nettem Turn am Ende. Der Main event... joa, der war halt da. Nicht schlecht, aber auch nichts, was man gesehen haben muss. Insgesamt aber ein toller Event, da all das nur solide recht kurz gehalten sind und die guten Matches genug Zeit bekommen. Dazu noch die Outsiders mit ihrer Attacke gegen Bischoff, was (auch wenn ich Hall am Mikro weder hier, noch in den vergangenen Nitros wirklich gut fand) nett eingefädelt die Story weiterleitet. 8 Punkte. |

Selbst das Match der Footballer gegen Flair/Anderson war unterhaltsam gestaltet worden. Der Mainer, wie zu erwarten, kein Kracher aber er hat seinen soll erfüllt und für nur 9 Minuten wars ok. Guter Event insgesamt. |

Mit Abstrichen noch Sting gegen Regal. Ansonsten waren nur der Turn von McMichael gegen Greene und die Powerbomb von Nash gegen Bischoff sehenswert. Alles andere ist bzw war meiner Meinung nach nicht der Rede wert. |

Sting vs. Regal war ok, aber einfach mit zu offensichtlichem Ausgang... Der Rest der Matches wirkt einfach lieblos dahingeklatscht. |

Die Mtache benoit vs Sullivan, Regal vs Sting, Horsemen vs Footballer und die sowieso immer gute Begegnung Malneko vs Rey das wieder gut. Die ersten 3 Matche sind zwar alle drei keine Kracher aber dennoch alles in allem absolkut in ordnung. Ich empfehle jedem dieses Event. |

Abgesehen vom kurz gehaltenen Tenta vs Big Bubba Intermezzo eigentlich kein Tiefpunkt, da es Flair und Anderson gelingt aus den beiden Footballern ein beachtlich gutes Match zu ziehen. Daneben gibt es eigentlich alles, was das Wrestlingherz begehrt. Powerhouses, Techniker, Hardcorebrawl, Tag Team-Wrestling und der Beginn einer der bedeutensten Storylines in der Wrestlinggeschichte. Für ein sehr gut reicht es nicht aufgrund des Main Events, des angesprochene Tenta/Bubba Matches und einiger Upfucks die Show über. Dennoch ist der Bash absolut zu empfehlen, gerade wenn man noch ein mal WCW vor der nWo Ära erleben will. |
