There was a great rising quality to every single match that is hard to find anywhere in the world. The last two matches were phenomenal, of course, they are worth the price of admission outright. Some of the midcard matches like Suzuki / Sakuraba and Magake / Ishii are great for what they are as well. |

Ibushi and Naito's chemistry was super impressive; the way all their transitions and flowed nicely together, the way they were able to counter each other, it was all so gratifying to watch. They built the drama of this match very well with some HARD bumps. This led to them selling a hell of a lot, maybe too much at certain points since it slowed the pacing down a bit to an uninteresting degree. Always have to find the perfect balance with that kind of thing. However, the crowd was super hot for this match and both men were able to get them even more into it which really elevated this match as well. I wish Ibushi had tried to escape the 2nd Destino at the end, but overall the finish was pretty solid too. This was just two men going crazy and all out to put on the best performance possible. Real graps. I loved this. ****3/4 |

Sie ist zwar ein großer Brocken mit gut 5 Stunden, aber mehr als lohnenswert. Nur die 6 Man Tag Team Matches sind keine wirkliche Matchempfehlung, aber auch die waren nicht unbedingt schlecht und auch nur jeweils 5 Minuten lang. Man hat hier eine schöne Ansammlung die sehr verschieden ist und so der Reiz nicht verloren geht. Die Highlights waren jedenfalls die letzten 3 Matches, die allesamt auf jeder anderen Show ein MotN sein könnten. Styles/Naito war ein tolles Aufeinandertreffen, dazu kommt noch, dass die Paarung nicht wirklich oft vorgekommen ist(****1/4). Nakamura/Ibushi war mein MotN und für viele andere auch. Ich kann das ganze nur sehr schwer in Worte fassen, am besten man schaut es sich einfach an(*****). Tanahashi/Okada kommt als letztes und beendet die Show auf einem Hoch. Ohne Frage wäre dieses Match das beste des Abends gewesen, wenn es nicht das IC Match geben würde(****3/4). |

Aside from the multi-man tag matches at the start, this was all hit no miss. All three and a half hours flew by. The four way IWGP Jr tag, Omega/Ryusuke, and the tag title match were all good, albeit nothing special. The UWFI rules and NEVER Openweight bout featured nothing but hard-hitting greatness, while AJ/Naito offered an excellent lesson in ring psychology. Finally, the double main events that blew the entire roof off the Tokyo Dome, and at the same time, gave us two crazy MOTYC to enjoy. And that's not even including the terrific US commentary provided by JR & Matt Striker, who worked extremely well together on the booth and gave us that extra something to the whole event. The definitive 2015 show of the year by far and it's not even fair. |

PROS: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada - Started off a bit slow, but went full in quite quickly. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kota Ibushi - Unbelievable match from start to finish. Nakamura is easily the best wrestler on the planet at this time and it's great to see an early Murder Ibushi appearance. Tomohiro Ishii vs. Togi Makabe - There's a reason the NEVER title has the moniker of the BMF title. Hard hitting, slug fest. Everything you'd expect from an Ishii match. CONS: To be honest, there's not much wrong with this show. With a gun to my head, I would say that AJ Styles vs. Tetsuya Naito was a weak match compared to the rest. Considering what the two of them can do in the ring, it was below par. BULLET CLUB vs. Team New Japan wasn't great either to be fair. Probably because I'm not a fan of Jeff Jarrett. |

There are many other worthy matches in this event and it's full of different Wrestling styles. It has also one of the best set of wrestlers of all time. Really recommended. |

Das nächste Match dann eher schwach genau wie das 3 mit der Beteiligung von TMDK und Naomichi Marufuji. Suzuki vs. Sakaruba war ganz In Ordnung und hat mich gut unterhalten (***1/4). Makabe vs. Ishii war unglaublich stiff und sowas mag uch richtig (****). Kenny Omega vs. Taguchi war ganz gut und gut das Omega direkt hier damals den IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title gewonnen hat. Denn dadurch wurde er erst zu dem Topstar gepusht der er jetzt ist. Match war aber eher solide (***1/2). Das Tag Team Title Match fand ich gut (****). Das Match zwischen Naito und Styles war unfassbar gut getimed bei jedem Move und das Selling von beiden war ganz großes Kino (****1/4). Das Intercontinental Title Match dann absolut für mich das "MotN", dazu braucht man garnicht weit drum rum Reden. Denn beide hätte ein Speed drauf.. das war unglaublich. In diesem Match war einfach alles drin (*****). Main Event war genau so Stark (*****). Fazit: Eine gute, sogar sehr gute Wrestle Kingdom Show! |

AJ vs Naito was very good though it felt like a totally randomly booked match. ***3/4. Ibushi vs Nakamura was fantastic, even if probably too similar to their far superior 2013 G1 match. Lots of great psychology and spots. ****1/4-****1/2. Tanahashi vs Okada was just an absolutely incredible piece of storytelling. Two evenly matched men with massive egos pulling out crazy moves and going as far for the win as they possibly could. Fantastic psychology with both men doing their best to put each other away but letting their ego get the better of them at times. Fantastic chemistry and plenty of great spots, even in the slower opening phase. Heartbreaking for Okada to lose to Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom for a second time. Even worse seeing him cry post-match. ****3/4. Wrestle Kingdom 9 was an outstanding show, yet I feel that while none of the big matches were bad there probably should have been a few more great matches to push the show to the level deserving of a perfect 10 rating. Only the final two matches were at or above a 'great' level. |

Somit passt der Opener auch ohne mehr Struktur perfekt an die Position. Sehr gutes Match (***¾+). Die nächsten beiden Multi-Man Matches sind kurz gehalten und erfüllen ihr Soll. Suzuki/Sakuraba ist erfrischend, andererseits kann ich auch die negativen Meinungen verstehen. Gutes Arm Work + nette Schlussphase (***¼). Ishii/Makabe ist das zu erwartende Demolition Derby mit vielen sehr brutalen Spots und Szenen. Psychologisch nicht ganz auf dem Ishii/Shibata Level und an ein Paar Stellen etwas träge, aber immer noch stark (***¾). Omega/Taguchi könnte wenn beide richtig aufkurbeln gut sein. Hier ist das zu viel Comedy und zu wenig Wrestling und die Schlussphase rettet das Match, okay (**½). In nur 9 Minuten erzählt das TT Match eine richtig gute Story mit toller Dynamik, guten Tags und einer starken Schlussphase mit Feel Good Moment für Goto & Shibata. Das Match gerne 3/4 Minuten länger, trotzdem gut (***½+). Styles/Naito technisch einwandfrei mit herausragenden Move Sequenzen und nettem Styles Clash Focus, der schlussendlich in einem genialen End-Spot mündet. Intensität war da, Dynamik und Drama haben mir ein wenig gefehlt, trotzdem sehr gut (****). Nakamura & Ibushi zeigen mir dann, wieso ich Pro Wrestling liebe. Die beiden verbinden jegliche Form von brutaler Intensität mit fantastischen No-Sell Sequenzen, perfektem Strong Style und genialen Charakter Display. Es gibt keine einzige schwache Phase, dazu unglaubliche Holy Shit Momente und eine göttliche Atmosphäre. Eines der Besten Matches aller Zeiten (***** + MOTN)! Was soll man vom Main Event dann noch erwarten. Tanahashi & Okada erzählen die bravouröse Geschichte aus 2013 perfekt weiter mit out-of-this-world Storytelling, einer göttlichen Schlussphase und dem perfekten Aftermath. Ein absoluter Klassiker (*****)! Insgesamt kommt Wrestle Kingdom 09 auf: 10. 00/10 |
