The actual matches were mostly OK but not as strong as they might have been - Puma vs. Mundo in the main event was a lot of fun with some impressive moves to quickly establish them in this company, but the Demon vs. Chavo match was just OK, and Son of Havoc vs. Sexy Star was extremely short (and, after putting so much promotion into the Sexy Star character, having her lose that quickly was maybe not the greatest plan). A solid start for the program but it would certainly get better from here. |

Das Einstiegsintro ist wunderbar gelungen, bringt die Atmosphäre over (alles spielt sich rund ums Geld, Lucha underground, Mexican pride etc. ), bringt Dario Cueto over, leitet die Zuschauer in das Gefühl der Show ein. Dann beginnt die Show mit dem Promoter, die Kommentatoren Striker & Vampiro machen dabei einen tollen Job. Cueto ist fantastisch. Seine Anfangspromo war gut. Melissa Santos ist eine tolle Ringsprecherin in der Atmosphäre. Dass Rick Knox mit einem Gipsarm Referee sein kann, trägt auch irgendwo zur Atmosphäre bei. Mit Chavo Guerrero Jr. und Blue Demon Jr. startet Lucha Underground auch noch sehr namensreich, wenngleich das Match in den 5 Minuten, die es bekommen hat, ohne Höhen war und mir leider nicht gefallen hat. Das hätte als Einleitung deutlich besser sein können, vielleicht mit mehr Matchzeit. Das Finish war antiklimaktisch; das Match selbst hatte trotz ein paar solider Aktionen keinen roten Faden und trotz der Namen leider auch keine Bedeutung. Es folgt ein sehr starkes Backstage Segment zwischen Konnan und Cueto. Letzterer ist einfach grandios in seiner Rolle, ich kann es nicht oft genug sagen. Die Delivery ist perfekt. Es folgt ein guter Hype Clip für Prince Puma, der auch wunderbar diese 7 Aztec Tribes einbaut. Vor ihrem Match gegen Son of Havoc hält Sexy Star eine solide pre-taped Promo, in der sie überzeugend vermittelt, wofür sie kämpft. Das Match der beiden war dann gut ausgelegt und genau das, was es sein sollte. Star bekommt gute Offensive rein, wird dann aber nach dem ersten Impact Move gelegt. Trotzdem bleibt ihre Offensive in Erinnerung, da das Match auf den Punkt gebracht wird. Es folgt ein wunderbares Backstage Segment mit Cueto, der wieder einmal hervorragend delivered. Der ME war ein tolles erstes Leuchtzeichen (***¼). Cueto kommt dann mit dem Geldkoffer raus, Mundo ist sich sicher, doch Cueto hat Ryck & Crew engagiert und auch diese wollen überzeugen und es gibt einen Beatdown gegen Mundo & Puma. Sehr ordentlicher Einstieg in die Serie. 6. 25/10. |

Son of Havoc/Sexy Star ging nicht allzu lange, war auch eher da um Star zu präsentieren, auch wenn sie verloren hat. Mundo/Pumo war dann schon recht gut. Viel High-Flying und solide Sequenzen, gehalten in einem eher normaleren Tempo. Dario Cueto outet sich danach als unguter Besitzer und stellt Big Ryck usw vor. Noch weit von dem was LU mal werden sollte, trotzdem ein gelungener Start. |

Spiegelt den Charakrer gut wider, auch wenn man die Aussage dahinter zunächst einfach zu schlucken hat. Heel-Boss, der gegen den Cocky Heel wettert, ist dagegen auch erst mal etwas irritierend. Sexy Star muss dann leider auf spanisch ihren Charakter einführen, gute Aussage schwach präsentiert. Der Squash konterkariert das Ganze. Immerhin hält sich Son of Havoc noch an der Hose fest und schmälert so minimal den Squash-Eindruck. Match als solches ok. Dass Cueto Chavo etwas klein macht, passt sowohl zu Chavo als auch zu Cueto. Runde Sache. So auch das Main Event. Das hohe Tempo verhindert teilweise legitimes Selling, ansonsten ein sehenswertes, in Teilen sehr flüssiges Spotfest, welches sich eine gute Schlussphase gönnt, die den Spotfest-Eindruck etwas mehr hin zum Wrestling lenkt. Gutes Debüt für das Prince Puma-Gimmick, der sich hier etwas mehr präsentieren darf als Mundo – trotz des Ausgangs. (***3/4) Cueto unterstreicht im letzten Segment nochmal seinen Führungsstil. Logisch als prägende Figur in der Debüt-Folge. |

Die Matches waren bis auf den ziemlich guten Main Event nur durchschnittliche, aber die Clips dazwischen haben viel spaß gemacht. Alleine mit dem Heelturn von Dario Cueto am Ende konnte ich nicht viel anfangen, weil der Böse Boss im Wrestling so ausgelutscht ist, aber ansonsten war das für mich ein extrem starker Pilot, der durchgehend Spaß gemacht hat. Kurzer Kommentar zu den deutschen Kommentatoren: Ich mag beide von früher ganz gerne, aber hier fand ich sie nur ganz ok, da sie mir zu wenig erklärt haben anstatt fast nur auf Matches einzugehen, aber ansonsten kann ich mit ihnen leben. |

They also did this thing where during Star's entrance they cut away to do a video on her. I don't understand why they didn't wait until before the entrances to do that. That made this feel like it was a TV show or fake rather instead of a sport. Johnny Mundo and Prince Puma had a fun match. Excellent main event to showcase the promotion on it's first episode. Then Dario Cueto decides to not give Johnny Mundo the money he promised someone at the beginning of the episode. Oh boy just what we need. Another heel authority figure on a wrestling show. Yeah that hasn't been done to death. So Ricky Reyes, Ezekiel Jackson and some Hispanic dude attack Johnny Mundo and Prince Puma. So we got some kind of heel stable. I guess they're Dario Cueto's muscle. I'm not really looking forward to this. But the main event was good. The first episode was alright. There's things I didn't like but I like Ricochet and he had a good match with Johnny Nitro. |
