| 1 | 10.04.2024 | KingsCrossing | 3.0 | This is a pretty rough show, but there's a string of three solid matches towards the end there that save it from total disaster. My favourite was definitely Hansen and Luger, which I thought was a really fun brawl despite the silly finish. Unfortunately, everything prior to that is pretty weak. The international tag tournament is what takes up the majority of the show, and it's a fun idea, but it doesn't really work out. It's a lot of teams that aren't over with the crowd and whose styles clash pretty badly, having matches that are, for the most part, much too short to have much substance. The main event is the payoff to the atrocious Black Scorpion angle, which would have to be one of the most absurd storylines I have ever seen in wrestling. On the bright side, it does often fall in to 'so bad it's good' territory, so you can still get entertainment out of it (the spaceship entrance here was hilarious), but it all concludes in a pretty horrible wrestling match, so it's probably not worth sitting through it all unless your curiosity gets the best of you. I've certainly seen worse shows, but the fact that this was Starrcade makes me feel obligated to be pretty harsh on this occasion even if there are a few good matches. |

Das erste Match des Pat O'Connor Tag Team Turnier ist kurz und hinterlässt kaum Eindruck. Die beiden danach zwar etwas mehr aber auch nicht mehr als ein paar ganz gute Aktionen im zweiten Match vor Allem auf Seiten der Japaner. Die beiden Matches sind aber immer noch besser als die drei Matches, welche danach kommen welche alle nicht wirklich der Rede wert sind. Morton und Rich gegen die Freebirds ist dann wieder in etwa auf dem des zweiten und dritten Erstrundenmatches, bevor wieder zwei sehr kurze und unscheinbare Matches folgen. Es spricht nicht gerade für ein Turnier wenn man das über die Halbfinals sagt. Dann kam die klar stärkste Phase des PPVs mit drei wirklich anständigen Matches hintereinander. Luger gegen Hansen lebte vor Allem von seiner Intensität in Form der guten Einbeziehung des Bullropes aber auch von der taktischen Komponente. Der World Tag Team Title Streetfight danach ist trotz des komischen Finishs anständig und in meinen Augen das MOTN aufgrund seiner Intensität. Ebenfalls anständig ist das Finale des Tag Team Turniers, welches gar nicht so sehr über das Wrestlerische aber über die Atmosphäre und Stimmung kommt. Das Wrestlerische ist im ME gar nicht so das Problem - auch wenn beide natürlich mehr können. Das Problem ist viel mehr diese komische Geschichte drum herum und der Umstand, dass man zu jeder Zeit sieht wer da wrestlet. Das alles hat das Match runtergezogen und dieser ganze Angle war auch keine gute Art und Weise diesen PPV zu beenden. Auch deshalb muss ich sagen, dass diese Show trotz der drei anständigen Matches hintereinander nicht mal ausreichend. Man hatte auch im Jahr zuvor viele Matches aber die waren nicht ganz so kurz und das war auch sinnvoll da es alles Turniermatches waren - was hier nicht der Fall war. Generell hat das Booking und die Überfrachtung mit Belanglosem dem Event aktiv geschadet, sodass ich nicht mehr als 3 Punkte vergeben kann. |

Die Erstrundenmatches des Turnieres waren aber mehr oder weniger alle nicht viel wert, danach auch viele Matches, die nicht unbedingt in Erinnerung bleiben werden. Mit Luger gegen Hansen ging die Show richtig los, auch das Street Tag Team Match war okay wenn auch sehr kurz. Der Semi Main Event war von überschaubarer Qualität. Für mich beeindruckend wie Ric Flair seine kompletten Eigenheiten usw. ablegte um nicht vorzeitig erkannt zu werden, ich hätte ihn nicht erkannt, bemerkenswert. Bemerkenswert war aber leider auch, dass das Match ziemlich langweilig war und die Show in Summe nicht so der Knaller war. |

Toward the end of the show there were three very good matches - Luger vs. Hanson in the bullrope match, Doom vs. Anderson/Windham in the street fight and Steiners vs. Saito/Muta in the tournament final - before ending with a whole lot of Black Scorpion stupidity in the main event. |

Doom & den Horsemen war für mich das MotN. Starker heftiger Brawl von den beiden Teams. (3 3/4*). Dagegen war der ME eine Enttäuschung. Hier wäre bei der Auflösung des Scorpions mehr drin gewesen. Man hätt einen neuen Mann etablieren können. Stattdessen präsentiert man uns Flair. |

But at least most of the tag team matches of the tournament are excellent (I am disappointed for the Canadian team). Only the final was worthy, but the Mexican team and the Soviet one were great. Doom vs the Horsemen was a good fight, Luger vs Hansen very physical. The main event is the end to the extremely stupid Black Scorpion story. It's impossible right now to not know who was it but at least it gave Sting a serious contender. Not one of the best Starrcade but it's different than usual. I'm surprised to see it valued as an unworthy event. |

Anyway, this was a unique event that saw a bunch of interesting stuff: Bobby Eaton in singles action against the Z-Man; various teams from around the globe (Konnan and Rey Misterio, Chris Adams and Norman Smiley, Mr. Saito and the Great Muta, Salman Hashimikov and Victor Zangiev, et cetera). And then you had staples to the NWA like Sting, Flair (as the goofy Black Scorpion -- glad that's dead), The Steiners, Arn Anderson and Barry Windham, Doom, etc. It was a really cool, packed event. I'll have to go against the grain again and recommend this event. :) |

Ganz ganz mieses Tag Team Wrestling gepaart mit Upfucks und schlechten Finishes und komplett uninteressanten Teams. Grausam, so ähnlich stelle ich mir die Hölle vor. Hansen vs Luger war für die schlechte Stipulation das erste brauchbare Match des Abends mit einem interessanten Finish. Der Street Fight ist für Doom-Verhältnisse in Ordnung, aber längst nicht so gut wie Melzer ihn macht. Mich hat das Match nicht mitgerissen. Bestes Tag Team Match des Abends ist das Finale des Turniers mit dem erwarteten Sieg der Steiners. Ordentlich, nicht mehr. Der relativ schwache Main Event rundet den schlechten Event perfekt ab. Es passiert eigentlich nicht wirklich etwas von Belang im Käfig. Interessanter als das Match war das Aftermath und die Demaskierung Flairs. Verdammt schlechter Event dem ich nur mit viel Wohlwollen drei Punkte geben kann. |
