[8.0] "Luther has gone from a deathmatch wrestler to a meme, to a respectable character on AEW programming. He had a fun tag run with Serpentico that was a highlight of AEW Dark. This role as Toni's butler has been a delight and has added to Toni's gimmick. Luther's facial expressions and interaction with Toni's allies and opponents have been delightful. He fits right in each timeless segment."
[7.0] "I'm not familiar with his work before AEW, so I can't comment that. When I was firstly introduced to him he was maybe the worst member of jobber stable alongside Serpentico and Angelico. It was funny for a while but got stale pretty quickly. However his work with Toni Storm was great. He executed his character brilliantly, and was TOP1 butler and TOP3 manager after Don Callis and Prince Nana. Hopefully they continue to work together"
[4.0] "I heard about his deathmatch stuff from 90's so I'm going to update rating when I see that. Until then, his AEW work, has been OK to straight embarassing. He's okay as Toni Storm's "manager". My main impressions of him are his work with Serpentico. That Chris Jericho match was tragic. I know he's friend of Chris, but damnit. They say that first impression is most important, and whatever Luther does or did, I'll look at him as guy that stole the show in Jericho's 30th anniversary in worst possible way. At least he fulfilled his comedy role since I never laughed at one match like for this one."

[9.0] "If you check out his earlier work, he was a good character worker and good with gimmick matches. Sadly, age caught up with him and he's become dull when he is in a normal match. He still shines with his gimmick and his hardcore style when given the platform. UPDATE: Im already enjoying the new gimmick with Toni Storm, unless he does tag matches with her I dont see him being enhancement for a good while, and it also means he gets to showcase his excellent character work."
[6.0] "I haven't seen any of Luther's pre AEW work but just going off his work from the past few years, I've found Luther to be a pretty fun wrestler. Him and Serpentico were always a fun act on Dark though I don't care for their current group with Angelico as I think Angelico could be used better."
[8.0] "For someone that has over 35 years of in ring experience he is still pretty solid and unique outside and inside the ring, maybe in aew he isnt utilized as much but he is great as an comedy wrestler currently and as a manager, he is early work was great and he is overall a good wrestler."
"Luther is a wrestling GOD and anyone who says differently just wishes they could be him. He brings the fun, the entertainment, the character. Whenever he comes on i am more than thoroughly sports entertained, and really what more could a guy want from a match?"
[4.0] "I guess he was a great deathmatch wrestler back in the day or whatever, but I can only rate the matches I'm watching and in those matches Luther is pretty bad. However, over the last year he's improved his character work to the point where he's at least watchable, and sometimes legitimately entertaining."
[5.0] "Luther has one of the best characters in the ring that I've seen in a while. However, he hasn't got a ton to offer when the bell rings. His SAP team with Serpentico and Angelico is fun, but he kinda drags it down a bit."

I do believe he has had himself some good spots but I can probably count on two hands how many I've seen in the last year (although he did have a injury layoff there for a bit) he's just your basic low card Wrestler and most of my rating is for his character work.. but it's HARD for me to rate lower then a 4."

[2.0] "Never understood this signing by AEW in the first place. Luther might have been a good wrestler back in his deathmatch days but he is seriously way past his prime. He always looks slow and exhausted as soon as he enters the ring. I do not understand how he is considered an asset and not a liability for the company."
[10.0] "OH YOU ALREADY KNOW, THE ORIGINAL DEATH DEALER IS OUT HERE DOING IT FOR THE HOG DIPPERS AND ITES ALL OVER THE WORLD. But seriously, Luther is a solid hand and still impressive given his age. His snap suplex is a thing of beauty. I believe that there's a place in wrestling for old timers that never really made it huge, but stuck it out and made a career from it. There's a lot to be learned. I wouldn't normally rate him a 10, more likely a 7 since I do like seeing him and Serpentico team up these days, but his overall score is criminally low."

[7.0] "Luther was a weird signing at first and it was easy to accuse him of being a vanity hire. And while it took him a while to get adjusted, his tag team with Serpentico showed them to be perfectly entertaining. Luther eventually became a great act for AEW's YouTube shows. He's not particularly great in the ring, but he's perfectly efficient (more so for his age). His character work is fun and is constantly an highlight from every show he's on. While I did not think his signing was pertinent at first, I'm really glad AEW kept him and decided to feature him."
[6.0] "Luther carries himself with a fun gimmick. At this point in his career, 99% of the roster is going to be able to out-work him. But look at it this way, 10 years from now, I'm not going to necessarily remember most of the guys doing a plancha once every match. I am going to remember Luther, with his third eye, high pitched yelling and body slamming his partner Serpentico into their opponents. I find it amusing, and not in an ironic way. We need guys like this to make us laugh while everyone beats the crap out of each other. Moveset is a D (aside from using Serpentico as a weapon). In a rare instance where he's on the mic, he's a C (gets the job done, with enthusiasm and if he flubs, well he's so crazy how could you tell). His presence in-ring and out of the ring are a B-, because he's just fun. If he annoys you, that's the point!"
[0.0] "A confusing signing for AEW. Luther was 52 when he first signed for the company, and already displayed signs of slowing down in the ring. He came into the company off the back of a fairly insignificant sting in the indies, and despite wrestling since 1988 had had a career that most fans were unfamiliar with."

He is a wretched worker, botches almost everything, regularly falls off the apron, looks like he's moving in slow motion. The fact this guy was in the main event of Dynamite before the women is laughable. Thank god he isn't on TV anymore."
[3.0] "Erst mal das Positive: Er hat durchaus Chemie mit seinem Tag Partner Serpentico, das passt schon irgendwie für die Undercard. Dazu finde ich ihn in sehr kleinen Dosen durchaus mal unterhaltsam, vor allem in Interaktion mit seinem Partner. Aber da gibt es leider ein Problem. Bei all dem Erfolg, den er als Wrestler hatte in seiner langen Karriere, in den Ring gehört der Mann eigentlich nicht mehr. Das ist teilweise richtig schlecht, was er da abliefert, mit dem richtigen Gegenpart lässt sich hin und wieder höchstens ein Match auf die Beine stellen dass irgendwie unterhaltsam ist trotz des schlechten Wrestlings. Ich hoffe der Herr geht bald in den verdienten Ruhestand und arbeitet dann eher hinter den Kulissen, wenn es sein muss von mir aus auch außerhalb des Rings On-Air. Das wäre immer noch besser als ihn weiter im Ring sehen zu müssen. Knappe 3 Punkte"
[1.0] "Every time I see Luther on my screen I immediately change the channel. Treating him like some sort of gaijin deathmatch legend is a joke. How the hell did they choose HIM to main event a Dynamite? Are you serious?"
[0.0] "I cannot comment to the wrestler he may have been years ago, nor his proficiency in deathmatch wrestling so often assured by Excalibur. I can only speak for the man I see in the ring today and that man is an absolute liability. His persona is bizarre, but not the kind of bizarre that has any value in pro wrestling and he is a slow, stumbling "wrestler" of the calbre I would expect to see in YouTube videos of teenagers throwing their friends off suburban rooftops. He has no business on the card of any self-respecting booker and AEW would be elevated (pun unintended) by his absence. Completely unredeemable."
[5.0] "I give him a 5 because he is a solid tag worker currently, and he's legendary as a gaining deathwatch wrestler. There are wrestlers as sluggish as he is now (aprricularly in New Japan) and they get a warm reception from marks b. c of nostalgia. Luther is perfectly "okay" today"
[3.0] "Luther is the pits on AEW. Slow, sluggish, and completely unremarkable. I don't care if he was a low mid-carder typical evil gajin brawler in FMW that no one bar 3 people actually seen in action or that he was talented in cutting himself up or throwing himself into sharp and dangerous things, the fact is that he's just not a good wrestler universally. Him being bros with Jericho is the ONLY reason he's allowed to even be on television and even then he's mostly just enhancement talent, and I'm putting big quotations on the "enhancement" part because the guy can't bump properly and no one looks good beating him."
[3.0] "If he truly was some great deathmatch dude while in Japan, that's all well & good. But he simply does not work in his current role in AEW. Him movements are awkward at best & his character work leaves you scratching your head. This is an example of why Tony needs to be more harsh of a boss & not let every top talent bring in their buddies."
[10.0] "I don? t think people realise how great Luther is right now. He is at the peak of his career and putting on all-time classics each and every week. I honestly believe he? s one of the best wrestlers in the world right now and his promos are on another level. On top of this, he is also a death match LEGEND and was one of the founding members of the nightmare collective."

Soll er seine Erfahrung als Trainer weitergeben, aber so ist das nichts. Auch außerhalb des Rings ist da für mich nichts zu holen, Gimmick wird nicht erklärt, sondern einfach vorgesetzt, schräge Wortmeldungen, unpassender Look. Spricht mich so überhaupt nicht an."
[0.0] "Honestly one of the worst "talents" I've ever seen. No one would know him in 2020 if he wasn't Jericho's buddy. He can't work, can't cut a promo, can't sell, he barely manages to breathe and walk by the end of his matches. It was bad enough that he was signed with a major wrestling company while 52 and atrocious, it's even worse he main evented a TV show."
[4.0] "Luther is a very smart man. He managed to catch the so called Onita or Deathmatch Era of FMW, when real talent mattered less than the willingness to slice and dice oneself, and built his entire career upon that stint: he's the classic guy who was "big in Japan but Western audiences don't get". Problem is these days it's not merely easier to access at least a few of those matches, but we have the benefit of hindsight as well: Luther was your standard foreign hardcore guy whom smart Japanese bookers and promoters served to local audiences as a threat to their rising midcarders, meaning fans were more willing to pay good money. He was fine in his role as hardcore midcard guy in a promotion that at the time was literally on fire, nothing more, nothing less, and his later career proves that: before his friend Chris Jericho brought him back into AEW he seemed content in his semi-retirement as a pro-wrestler. These days... he has no business being in a wrestling ring. He could be a manager or another on-screen character to ride on Jericho's coattails, that's fine, and perhaps he could have a once in a while hardcore match if his body holds up, but he was surely a weird choice for Jericho's 30th anniversay match."
[8.0] "Giving this man a 0-1 is just demonstrating how ignorant you can be, just because you watched 7 matches of him on "AEW Dark". One of the greatest gaijin deathmatch wrestlers in Japan in the 90s, a pioneer and a trailblazer for people like the GCW Deathmatch guys, and a highlight in every Frontier Martial Arts show he was in. Instead of judging someone for his stuff at the dawn of his career, watch some stuff of his in-ring peak, at least."
[1.0] "Total waste of an AEW roster spot. He gets 1 point for his high-pitched screaming at referees and opponents being mildly entertaining, but he doesn't bring anything else to the table. I don't think I've seen his pre-AEW work and he's in his 50s, so maybe he was better in the past. Now, though, he's just brutal."
[8.0] "This guy is awesome. What's ironic about him is he was more well known in Japan than North America even though he was not Japanese. Matching the matches he teamed up with Dr. Hannibal were great and also his singles as well. He had an excellent part at playing the heel. He has fought some of the greatest wrestlers in sports-entertainment like Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, The Sheik and Sabu. He made appearances in ECW and WCW. Recently he came out of retirement and his fighting in the indies."
