| 13.11.2024 | boymeetsworld | 9.0 | This is one of the better matches to use as an introduction to the BattlARTS style in a small room, as it really captures the feel that these matches are trying to convey to the audience. It's a fight, and even though the stakes are not that big, nobody wants to lose and the environment makes both participants' determination surprisingly primal, so the drama is constantly escalating. Moriyama's selling here was just tremendous, I think a lot of active wrestlers could learn a lot from his performance. |
| 02.11.2024 | benny5bellys | 10.0 | Near perfect. Moriyama is back from six months out with a broken jaw and Ono is on another level here with how vicious he is. 95% of his offense is kicks, backfists and the meanest punches all directly focussed on fucking up Moriyamas face once again. There is a level of sadism to his work here that is shocking in all the best ways. Futen's production is always brilliant and adds so much to this match, the way it is shot up close and personal and the sound of each thud gives it such a visceral feel. Twice Moriyama has to throw the nastiest sounding headbutts just to give himself space to breath and get in some offense of his own. Ono is a machine though and just won't stop the violence until his opponent is finally vanquished. Love it ****3/4 |
| 10.07.2024 | Shadow Explosion | 10.0 | What a ride, this is an amazing fight, god bless Futen. This is White Moriyama's first match back at all since Daisuke Ikeda broke his jaw six months ago in a barn burner. Now our boy in white Hajime Moriyama is retiring.. until he randomly comes back full-time a decade later. I don't know how Moriyama is like in HEAT-UP, but in Futen he's always been an amazing watch. He is Bati-Bati in it's most heroic form, sadly every hero needs a villain, and I'll be damned if Takeshi Ono doesn't play the role to a tee. Takeshi Ono has always been an asshole as a character, there have been rare moments where he can be the face in peril (He also excels in that role too.) but this is one where he is just the most vile evil man alive. At one point early on his continuously kicks Moriyama on his back out of the ring and Moriyama lands on the back of his head on the stairs, good lord. Moriyama has that spirit trying to endure, he's got so much heart but Ono does not care. Also I'll point out that once again Takeshi Ono is one of the best sellers of all time, Moriyama does some crazy stuff to him and Ono takes in probably the most realistic yet kinda goofy forms, and it works. The final part broke my heart but at that point it was a mercy kill. Another Futen All-Timer. ***** |
| 13.09.2023 | Lakhiarfarhad91 | 8.0 | Crazy opener featuring amazing Fu-ten violence. In earlier minutes, Ono was dominating Moriyama but the more the match went on, Moriyama started to put on a fight and he survived alot of punishment from Ono. Ono hit vicious punches, stomps, knee strikes and even made him bleed from the nose but Moriyama kept getting up. Moriyama hit two brutal HEADBUTTS with one followed by a nasty Dragon suplex but Ono gets up. There was an incredible Dragon screw counter by Ono followed by a kick on Moriyama's head. I also loved Moriyama trapping Ono with leg locks and he hit some great kicks on Ono's arm. So much awesome stuff in 13 minutes. 8/10 |
| 25.04.2021 | Jetlag | 9.0 | I loved this, a real testament to the greatness of Ono. This was Moriyamas (initial) retirement and while he has never shown much, he was game to engage in a FUTEN level war. Normally you? d associate retirement matches with feel good moments and the retiree getting their shit in, but that wasn? t the case here as Ono was incredibly vicious throughout and just trying to turn Moriyama into a pulp. Just a super competitive match even outside the violence, really dug the opening grappling with Ono stuffing Moriyamas takedown attempts and doing some excellent guardwork. Onos relentlesness however may have been at its peak here as he caught Moriyama with a nasty stomp during a scramble in the ropes and then just demolished him with sick punches and kicks and ungodly knees. Ending run felt shockingly epic for a Moriyama match as he uncorked some gnarly head spiking suplexes while maintaining a sense of struggle, Moriyama getting a bloody nose and trying not to get punched out, refusing to die on his sword while getting his face perforated by Onos kicks etc. It works because of how bad Ono was stomping Moriyama earlier, that Moriyama reaching deep and trying to hang on actually feels epic. Strong contender for the greatest retirement match I've ever seen, and its all Ono. |
