418.06.2024SoundwaveAU6.0Decent little match. I was a little disappointed with how Delfin mocking Liger with his gear didn't come into play as much as it could have, and after a submission-based start neither guy is really selling any aftereffects, but you also know that this is meant to be a fast-paced juniors match so it doesn't bug me much. Once they start getting serious, it's pretty good.

1405.10.2023ZooWee7.0Despite a slow and admittedly quite boring start, this eventually turned into a pretty entertaining match. Most of the first 5 or so minutes is just rest holds and submissions, until the match picks up when Liger powerbombs Delfin and starts attacking his leg. Liger is almost playing heel in this match and the crowd are super behind Delfin who puts in a pretty great performance as the underdog. The match really begins to pick up at the end when Liger hits a senton from the top rope to the outside and then hits a top rope dragon rana back in the ring on Delfin, for a really great nearfall. The action continues and Liger eventually gets the win with a brainbuster. A good match for sure, but due to a pretty slow start, this doesn't reach the level that other future BOSJ finals would. ***3/4

2130.07.2021JokerDeSilva7.0A really fun, high energy match. Delfin's half-Liger costume was a really nice touch, setting the tone for the upstart trying to get in the icon's head and throw him off with that kind of disrespect. He played a few games like that, including a fake-out dive that got a really good reaction from the crowd. In general, it was a lot of high-paced action, interspersed with Liger slowing things down with technical work as he's usually wont to do, especially in these top-tier matches where he's almost playing the heel against the underdog. Unlike his battle with Sasuke at the J Cup tournament, though, Liger comes out on top as the superior force, and that's part of the reason this match doesn't end up quite on that iconic level. It's just a good match, without a lot of the same drama and spark from earlier in the year.
2229.11.2020Makai Club 8.0What a final to the BOSJ tournament. I know I'm the outlier on it in saying that I prefer it over Pegasus vs Sasuke in the Super J Cup, although Sasauke v Liger is still the superior Jr Heavyweight title match of the year thus far in the timeline. With Liger showing in the aforementioned Sasuke match that he can and will lose to these indie stars, there was a fuck ton of drama for this match. Delfin definitely had a chance at winning and the crowd felt that. I loved the small mind games at the start with Delfin adopting a Liger look for his costume (which is also a nod to his legitimate fandom of Liger). Delfin gets a lot of offence on Liger, who makes Delfin look great, and wows the crowd with his faster paced style compared to what even Liger brings. Of course, Sasauke is the star and gets the push but this showed that Delfin could've had that spot and made it work if given the push. Liger's comeback was smart and didn't undermine Delfin. He was less disrespectful to the outsiders and endorsed them by being sportsmanlike after the win. ****

2428.10.2017arrancar5.0This match wasn't bad but it definitely didn't connect with me. The way Delfin's costume mimicked Liger's made me think Delfin was planning some mental warfare tactics. Sadly the match ended up having very little psychology at all and suffered because of it. The whole match except for one brief gap was just very uninspiring technical wrestling and acrobatic high-flying moves. The physicality of the particular moves wasn't anything special, the chemistry between the wrestlers that produced these moves wasn't that great and occasionally looked awkward, and these moves didn't lead to the creation of any real story either. The only sub-story that seemed to form was with Delfin being massively over with the crowd despite being an outsider to NJPW. This led to him getting lots of mediocre offence in (which massively impressed the crowd at least) before Liger staged his own acrobatic comeback and won some fans over to his side. This was more of a story outside of the actual match though, and it wasn't too enthralling on its own either. The one brief segment I talked about where psychology almost appeared was when Liger began aggressively working over Delfin's leg after Delfin tried ripping Liger's mask. It was a sudden change of pace and was nice, and implied some contempt between the two, but Delfin quickly stopped selling and went back to his usual average moves, so the segment was totally forgotten. A very basic match overall. Liger's final comeback was alright at least. **3/4

2730.10.2016Luv all wrestling8.0The BOSJ Finak had a enjoyable pacing, Delfin played his role amazingly, with a great conceot of dressing as his opponent, and Liger had some great strikes.
