(22.01.2007) Rumors, written by The Mountie

[9.0] "Brutal match to open a PPV ! There were many dangerous spots, the salida del sol that I apply Kalisto was insane. these matches are those that give prestige to the championships."
[9.0] "This was a wild match. The Machine Guns and Apollo 55 were wrestling a really fast paced match here, with some breathtaking moves. I loved how Shelley and Sabin tried to work on Devitt as a team and isolate Taguchi. Great match (****1/4)"
[9.0] "I remember seeing this match as a classic but watching it now, I don't think it was. Don't get me wrong, this was a very good match but re-watching it, I was expecting an all-time classic just like I thought it was the first time I saw it but I noticed quite a few things I didn't really like about this match, nothing big though but I just didn't like it. First of all the ending... I still think this is the best match to end in a DQ but it really took a lot from the match for me unfortunately. I really hate the Mandible Claw finish so that playing a part in the match felt kind of silly but that's pretty minor. Everything else about this match was great though, it was a fast paced brawl with a bit of wrestling, it was pretty brutal and gave us kind of a foretaste of what was coming with the Attitude Era so historically, it was pretty significant. Mankind took some big bumps, on the concrete floor, the steel steps, the table and the ropes, he really took some risks, something that would become his trademark very soon. Shawn Michaels was great as well, he brought a lot of intensity, playing a bit dirty, his work on Mankind's leg was excellent. The psychology part of this match was very good, Mankind's character work was good and the mind games in this match was great. Unfortunately, the match was cut short abruptly and it's a shame this match didn't have a proper finish. I wish I could say I didn't mind but it's just not the case... It might have play a big role for future match-ups but made this match feel like a filler for what was coming and I really don't like that, especially since the match was reaching its climax. This could have definitely been a classic in my mind if that didn't happen but to me, it's just an excellent match with a bad finish that messed up my enjoyment of the match in the end when it was a classic match-up. **** 1/4"
